Chapter 141: Chapter 141

"That’s right." Melina smiled, surprised that he was able to catch on so quickly. "This is a Purified Fracture. I’m sure you know that fractures disappear once you destroy the core, but in some cases, the mana purity is so dense that it creates another core, but this time, the mana in the fracture will be purified, and the space will turn into one filled with life."

"Yeah, I’ve heard about this happening, but the odds of it are so rare that you can battle fractures your entire life and not come across this purification process. Amazing! I have to study this! Imagine the things you could do or...or the things you can keep secret by having a pocket dimension in your backyard. Oh! Time dilation! I could spend like, ten years here training and-"

"Zion!" Melina shouted, snapping Zion out of his fantasy. "Please, focus. Use your power on the sapling."

"Oh, right, I forgot we were here for that." He walked over the sapling and placed a barrier of holy power around it. "Everything should be fine now."

"Are you sure the barrier can’t be broken?"

"No, it’s definitely possible. However, to do so, the person would have to either have demonic energy, infernal energy, or just be super fucking strong, like Transcendant or Mystic stage strong. But as soon as someone touches it, I’ll know."

Melina nodded, satisfied with Zion’s answer. "That’ll work for now. Let’s move on to the next place.

The three of them teleported out of the Purified Fracture back into the royal castle. But as if it were fate, Zion tripped and fell, faceplanting on the floor.

Valnidra couldn’t help but bust out laughing upon seeing someone like Zion faceplant on the floor. "Did you just-"

"Don’t wanna hear it!" He shouted

"No, you totally just-"

"Shut up!"

"Hahahaha!"

It took about an hour to get everything completed, going to each of the Fae families and using Holy Power to protect them. Each family estate was on the opposite side of the kingdom, so it took a bit of time getting to each of them. Thankfully, Zion was able to use his Jet to make traveling faster.

"Alright, that’s the last one," Zion said as he finished putting a barrier around the last Sapling. Currently, he was in the home of the Barahad family, a family of dark elves, the ones who were attacked. They were powerful spirit summoners and specialized in making contracts with Shadow and Lightning spirits.

[Replacing the Darkness element with the Shadow element. I think I wrote it as ’Darkness’ in some earlier Chapter by accident.]

"Thank you, young human." The head of the household said, smiling as he shook Zion’s hand.

"No problem, mister Thrurinrod, I’m here to help anyway. Also, speaking of helping, could you tell me how you were attacked?"

Thurinrod sighed, not wanting to recount such an event. As one of the Fae families, he was deeply ashamed that he was very close to losing a sapling after his family had guarded it for generations. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

"Just a few hours after I was informed that the Saplings in the care of the church of Freya were stolen, my estate was attacked. The security where I keep the sapling is already the highest in the estate, and I made sure to triple it after receiving that unfortunate information. But somehow, that wasn’t enough. All the traps, defenses, guards, and spells used to protect the sapling failed."

"Demonic energy, maybe?" Zion assumed

"Yeah, it was definitely demonic energy. However, my family has been around for thousands of years, long before the demon war, so we have spells that are able to detect demonic energy and even hold it off for a short period of time. But nothing worked. It was as if the perpetrator just walked into my home and strolled straight to the secret vault where I keep the sapling."

"Were you able to identify the invader?"

"No, I wasn’t. Out of all my guards, only four survived as well."

Zion’s eyes perked up. "May I talk to them?"

Thurinrod hesitated. "Well, I don’t mind, but I don’t get why you would need to."

Zion smirked. "You said it yourself. The perpetrator just waltzed into your home and made their way to the vault where you keep the sapling. Now, if your defenses are anything like the Royal Family’s own, then that’s quite literally impossible to do, unless-"

"Unless they were already familiar with the layout of my home, or it was an inside job." Thurinrod finished.

"Exactly."

"But we’re elves! Why would they betray their own kind? We’re not like humans, no offense."

"None taken. But you fail to realize that the thirst for power, the influence it has on people, isn’t tied to any race. Anyone can be seduced when it comes to power."

Thurinrod’s power started to rise with his anger, but quickly dropped back down once he calmed himself. "Let me take you to the guards who survived.

"That would be great."

Thurinrod took Zion and Melina to the infirmary bay, where the guards were being treated for their injuries. Thankfully, the four of them had their own room, so he was able to speak with them individually without having one of them become suspicious.

"Lord Thurinrod!" The Dark Elf stood up to bow but winced, clutching their injured ribcage.

"Don’t get up, you’re injured," Thurinrod demanded

"Yes, my lord. May I ask what brings you here?"

"This is Divine Apostle Zion," Thurinrod motioned to Zion. "The apostle of a long forgotten goddess Luminera. Goddess Freya has called for his aid to help us in this crisis, so if you would be kind enough to share what happened at the vault today, that would be great."

"Of course!" The guard’s ears perked up. "But I apologize in advance if what I give you isn’t enough, but basically, I was doing what I normally do, guarding the vault where the sapling is being held. There were three times as many guards there, so there were around 150 of us. Then suddenly, everything went black. We’re dark elves, so we can see in the dark, but this was different. It was dark, cold, and I could feel death lingering over my shoulders. Even our spells didn’t have any light or function properly. We fought back as best as we could, using our senses and spirits, but by the time Lord Thurinrod arrived, 146 of us had died, and the perpetrator got away."

Zion absorbed everything he said, trying to form his own conclusion. "The shadow element can be dispelled if someone is stronger than the caster, so this means whoever invaded this place was stronger than 150 Supreme stage mages and martial artists collectively."

Thurinrod nodded. "That’s correct, however, that still doesn’t make any sense because the traps and spells placed where the vault is located have enough firepower to kill a Transcendant and can even gravely injure a mystic. The guards also don’t have the clearance to deactivate them."

"Hmmm. Let’s talk to the others, maybe they can fill in some of the gaps."
