Black Online-Chapter 107: Ice Goblins
"...Shield and sword training?"
Rock looked at Fang Raon, who came over to the training room to ask for help with training.
The other students of his were training in this warm room, while Fang Raon had spent the previous week training all alone outside.
Seeing how warm it was, Fang Raon desperately wanted to join the others inside.
’Tomorrow during the morning jog... I must do my absolute best.’
Fang Raon thought to himself.
If any other student asked Rock for some personal training, he would tell them, "Fuck off," and make them do a hundred push-ups.
However, Fang Raon was a special case.
"Let’s head off to the forest. There is a clearing over there that has some snow monsters that pop up every now and then.
"Killing monsters is good to increase your level percentage, and I can also teach you at the same time."
Rock said.
Fang Raon nodded and went to wait outside while Rock put other students to different kinds of training.
After he was done assigning the training exercises for other students, he left the mansion grounds with Fang Raon and headed straight to the snow forest.
They took a different path from the usual morning jog and even left the Snowberry Village behind.
Because it was a safe zone, none of the monsters spawned near the place, so they had to go further away.
"This should do."
Rock said as he arrived at a small clearing.
There were few snow-covered trees scattered here and there. The ground was snowy, but it was very hard. And there was a river a little distance away, and it wasn’t frozen.
"Since this place has a river, some monsters come here frequently for water. It is a prime hunting spot.
"There are some high-level monsters, which are too much for you, so I’ll handle them while you handle the weaker ones."
Rock said, and sat down on a hardened snow pile, and summoned one of his hounds to guard him.
"Okay."
Fang Raon pulled out his sword and shield and started waiting for any monsters to come around.
Ten minutes passed... twenty minutes passed... half an hour passed...
There was no sign of any monsters, and Rock was just relaxing with a cigarette in his mouth, as he had expected that they might have to wait.
Crack!
In that moment, they heard a twig snap and turned to look over to the south and saw a blue-skinned short-legged creature.
It had a big head, skinny body, stubby legs, and pointy ears that were twitching.
The creature was also holding a weapon of sorts. A wooden club. It was almost bigger than its entire body.
"Ice Goblin. You can handle that."
Rock said.
With a nod, Fang Raon put his cold fingers in his mouth and whistled loud enough to attract the Ice Goblin’s attention.
Ice Goblin turned around, and once it saw Fang Raon, it immediately turned hostile and started walking over.
"Ice Goblins are a very unintelligent race, but they do possess some combat prowess."
Rock said.
If this Ice Goblin were any more intelligent, it would’ve noticed the danger that Rock and his hound possessed.
It wouldn’t even try to attack but instead run away.
’This shouldn’t be too hard...’
Fang Raon thought and slowly approached the Ice Goblin.
With only five meters separating the two, Ice Goblin’s eyes turned a degree more hostile, and it showed signs of preparing to attack.
"Throwing Sword!"
In that moment, Fang Raon threw his sword.
It flew the small distance, but then Ice Goblin smacked the sword out of the air, and it fell harmlessly to the ground.
"Return."
Fang Raon said, and the sword flew back to his hand just like that, landing perfectly in his grip.
’It has a good reaction time.’
He thought.
In that moment, Ice Goblin started running at him. It couldn’t run fast. However, it was very aggressive.
It swung the wooden club, and Fang Raon blocked it with the Steel Shield, but he lost some ground as his feet slid backwards.
’What a strong strike! My left arm is literally shaking.’
Fang Raon thought.
For a moment, he thought that it might be cold, but no, as soon as the wooden club landed at his shield, his left arm turned numb.
Ice Goblin grinned and kept swinging the wooden club, and Fang Raon quickly backed off to distance himself.
He wasn’t planning to try to block any more of his strikes.
’Can my Basic Parry even work... Wait, it is level 3 now, so it might?’
Fang Raon wondered.
In that moment, he turned to Rock, who was watching with a cigarette in his mouth, and made a decision.
’There must be a reason why Rock wanted me to improve my Basic Parry to exactly level 3. It must be strong enough to parry Ice Goblin’s strike!’
Ice Goblin pressed forward, raising its wooden mace high above its big head, and then brought it back down with a swing. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
It had surprisingly big muscles to be able to handle swinging that big wooden mace despite its small body.
"Basic Parry!"
Fang Raon used his shield and smashed it against the wooden club, and it got pushed back with a loud thud.
Ice Goblin looked shocked that its wooden club strike was deflected!
’Wow! This Basic Parry is so much stronger than it was during level 1. I had no idea that it would have such a significant difference!’
Fang Raon thought in surprise.
He then noticed that he had a chance to end the fight and immediately used "Sword Stab" and drove the Refined Sword through Ice Goblin’s heart.
[You have killed Ice Goblin!]
[Next Level: 54% → 55%]
’Even the Sword Stab is faster than before. I just now realized that I am using these skills for the first time in an actual fight since I leveled them up!’
Fang Raon thought to himself.
"You’re being far too careful with your moves, and there is no confidence in your attacks. Sure, the reason might be that you haven’t tested your skills yet after they leveled up, so I’ll let that slide.
"More Ice Goblins are coming, so handle them too."
Rock said.
"...There is more coming? How do you know?"
Fang Raon asked as he couldn’t see any Ice Goblins anywhere. It was only this one, and it was now dead.
"Goblins never move alone."
