Seoha’s POV

I shut the journal and push it far away as Sooin enters the room looking for her father.

"Daddy!" her pout changes to a bright smile as she sees me, "hi pup" I whisper, wiping my tear quickly as she comes to stand in front of me, big brown eyes filled with concern for me.

"Daddy, are you crying?" she asks me, cupping my cheeks with her little hands and I laugh softly, taking them off to kiss her palms.

"No baby, there was something in my eyes" I say and stop myself from tearing up again.

The little girl looks like she has been home for a while, I look at the clock and realize how much time has slipped from me, it is six PM.

"Did you eat?" I ask and she nods, "Jisu unnie gave me kimchi" she says and climbs into my lap, sticking her thumb into her mouth and swinging her legs.

"Are you okay?" I ask softly.

"Dad didn’t come for me today" she says and I hold her closer to my chest, feeling sorry for the world she has been born into, hurt on her behalf for the thing she doesn’t know.

Her father is being hurt by her great grandfather, her father was forced to choose between some children and her, her father is struggling...she knows nothing.

"Dad got busy, Innah" I lie and she pouts, "I smelled grandpa, did grandpa come to see me again?" she asks and my heart rate increases.

"Yes..." I lie again.

"I hate it" she mutters and pushes her face into my neck, I pull away just enough to see her face but her eyes are closed, and nose pressed into my scent gland.

"You hate it?" I ask softly and she nods, "but I like you, I like you very much, and I like dad" she says with her lisp increasing the more sleep takes over.

I sit still and rock gently in the seat till she falls asleep in my arms.

Holding her tenderly, I carry the child to my own room and lay her on the bed, tucking her in for the night.

Once I am done and ready to return to the office, she wakes up briefly and looks at me with bleary eyes, "daddy?" she calls and I hum in response.

It’s no longer just playing along...it feels real now.

"Is dad back?" she asks and I brush her bangs out of her face, "not yet, but he’ll be back soon" I say to her and she puckers her lips in a pout, "will you go too?" she asks, eyes drooping as she falls asleep again. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

"Hmm, just for a few seconds, I’m going to bring dad back" I say and she smiles in her sleep, "no one brings dad back, thank you daddy" she mumbles and push her face into my pillow.

She has no idea what her words have done to me.

"I’ll come back to you...and your dad will be here too" I say with foolish certainty and she nods, "thank you daddy" she says again.

It’s sad how quick she is to say thank you for the littlest thing, just like I am quick to say I’m sorry for the littlest things.

I release my vanilla scent to ease her back to sleep, then I press a kiss her forehead, it is after her milky scent softens that I get out of the bed with a resolve.

I’m going to bring Taesan back.

Junho warned me to look away, but it’s impossible to do that when Sooin already knows no one cares to go after him, how can I possibly be like them?

With my heart in my throat, I pick the black card from my bag before going into Taesan’s room to pick out one of his worn jacket, I wrap the oversized cloth around myself with a plan on my mind.

I know that if I go out without an alpha’s scent on me, I will be harassed...and if I have Taesan’s card, it might add extra protection...hopefully.

Before I leave, I go to find my only acquaintance in this place, needing someone to know my whereabout before I dive into the careless plan.

"Jisu-ah" I call Jisu who is in the kitchen scrubbing dishes, the young lady turns around to respond, and her usual happy smile makes an appearance despite the obvious confusion in her eyes.

"Seoha-ssi...what are you doing?" she asks and move closer to me, "I’m going to find Taesan-ssi"

"Is he missing?" she asks with a nervous laughter, eyes bouncing all over the place as she turns her back to focus on the dishes, and I grab her elbow to make her look at me.

"I know you all know about the visit" I say and she groans, "yes I’m aware, just like everyone else, what’s your point?" is her hurried response.

She’s confirming what I already know...they know and they chose to look away.

"How often does this happen?" I ask quietly and she sighs.

"Mom says it has been happening since the man learned to read Hangeul, he is used to it and he always comes back" she says with nonchalance, but I see her hands shaking.

"I’m going to find him" I whisper and she drops the dish in the sink, "you’re an omega, it’s late...you don’t have a collar, do you want to die?" the girl asks.

"I’m just telling you so you can look after Sooin for me" I say and turn to leave with my heart still jackhammering in my chest.

I know I’m being the most stupid I’ve ever been, but my omega is restless and my chest aches for the alpha.

Bracing myself for whatever, I return to the library and flip through the journal again, this time I need to find where the alpha might be.

Taking his pen, I rewrite the most mentioned places, one of them being a warehouse and another is an underground all-alpha club.

The places are not too far from one of the largest department stores, which means I can go from one place to the other without wasting too much time.

Wearing the alpha’s oversized jacket and with his black card in my pocket, I leave the house without being stopped.

And as soon as I step out of the house, I find Junho leaning against the telephone pole with his arms folded across his chest, and the man looks me with a blank face.

"I knew you’d do this" he says simply and I wrap Taesan’s jacket tighter around myself, "try to stop me and I’ll call the police" I threaten and he pushes himself off the pole.

"What police? The one with a Chief of police who is being paid directly by Taesan’s grandfather?" he asks and I growl at him, "I’m going for him".

"You will be killed on the spot...or worse" he says and I tighten my fist around the card in the pocket.

"I don’t care" I say.

"Fine, go" he juts his chin down the road and I walk past him before I hear a sigh, "get in the car" he says loudly making me stop in my track.

"What?" I ask in confusion.

"Get in the car, Seoha-ssi, Sooin’s heart won’t take it if you go missing" he says and I return to stand in front of him.

"We are about to be faced with the worse people, can I trust you to not make this hard?" he asks and I don’t answer.

What does he mean...?
