[BL]The Hero and his Party Won't Let Me Go-Chapter 41: Ch : Nero
"So, this is the holy sanctuary? What a stupidly expensive place to build. Why would they spend so much money on maintaining this place when they could use it to help the poor?"
Nero complained as he walked around the hallway. So far, the child had criticized everything he saw along his path.
From the choice of trees to the way the halls were carved and even the decorations, he looked unhappy with it all.
"Well, they made it to honor the goddess and her goodwill...."
"Huh-! Do you believe that stuff? The humans made this place for their own sake, not for the sake of the goddess. But what can we expect from people who tore their goddess apart for their own sake and then made up a story about being blessed by her while gaining power from the devil all the time... Ohhh... another useless thing..."
Shuu’s first instinct was to somehow make Nero shut his mouth. He did not have a problem with what he was saying, but he knew a lot of people who would have a problem.
Especially since they were in the middle of the sanctuary.
But the only reason he did not stop Nero was because... he felt curious.
He had only ever heard people praise the goddess, so to hear someone complain about her was new. Besides, Nero was telling Shuu something he had never heard before.
"Isn’t the history written in scriptures different from what you are telling me? The goddess gave humans their gift..."
"The scriptures were written by humans, so of course they would have written it in a way where it benefited them. It won’t do anyone good to know that their goddess is gone."
Nero told Shuu, but he did not believe Nero. Something about Nero felt... different from everyone else.
Still, since Nero had not discriminated against Shuu or pulled back from being with him, Shuu liked him better than most people. Weird or not, Nero was someone he liked being around.
"Would you like to rest in the garden for some time?"
Shuu asked Nero, and the child nodded. He reached out to grab Shuu’s hand but paused as he looked at the relic.
Before Shuu could ask him what was wrong, Nero walked to Shuu’s other side and grabbed his arm.
"I am not too fond of holy power and holy relics. But they are good for your protection, so make sure you keep this bracelet close to you."
Nero told Shuu just as they entered the garden. It was a huge space and lush as well. Shuu felt his worries leaving his mind as he sat down on the bench.
Nero looked around before he climbed the tree behind Shuu and quickly climbed it with almost feline grace.
Shuu closed his eyes to feel the wind around him. It was so nice and relaxing that he wanted to stay like this for a long time. He was about to fall asleep when he suddenly felt a jolt of water hitting his head.
"What-!"
He gasped as he opened his eyes and almost stood in shock. All his clothes were wet, and water dripped down his face.
"Tsk, what are you doing in this garden? How did a filthy and cursed thing like you even enter this far? Shoo-! Hurry up and leave now before you break the sacredness of this place."
From the garb, the female in front of Shuu looked like a noble’s maid. She held a bucket in her hand, and dirty water dripped out of it.
Shuu looked behind her, only to see a noble sneering at him. The reason he was able to pinpoint that the female was a noble (and likely the maid’s master) was because of the insignia on the umbrella the female carried.
"Hey, where are you looking? Don’t you know that you should not look at nobility like this? It seems that not only are you retarded, but you also lack manners."
The bucket was pressed against Shuu’s face by the maid, who quickly turned his head around and away from the sneering noble.
From her attitude, it did not seem like she knew who Shuu was or why he was here. She had likely just seen someone not blessed by the goddess and decided to take action.
Shuu did not want to cause trouble, so he simply decided to get up and pretend to go away. He needed to head back to his room anyway and change his clothes... and also take a bath now.
But before he could leave, the maid decided to hit his back with the bucket.
"Where do you think you are walking to? Since you have already soiled the sacredness of this place, you need to take responsibility. Kneel down..."
"Ahhh, fire...! My umbrella is on fire... someone hurry-! M-My hair..."
The noble standing in the hallway cried out as her umbrella and hair caught on fire all of a sudden.
The maid panicked and quickly used her ability to fill the bucket with water and doused the fire. But because the bucket was dirty, the noble was doused with dirty water as well.
"You-! Is it your doing? Did you curse me? How dare you-! It seems like being thrown out is not enough for you. You need more punishment..."
The noble came forward herself this time, and her anger seemed evident on her face. Shuu felt victimized here.
He had not even done anything, and he was still being blamed. But he knew better than to speak up, especially in front of the noble.
"Lady, get off your high horse. From what I saw, it seemed like you were being given divine punishment for trying to harass someone innocent. You should repent for your actions. Otherwise, who knows what could happen next to you."
Nero told the lady, and the noble’s face went even redder.
"H-How dare you... who are you to even say that?"
The noble asked, and Nero jumped down. He pulled out his sword that had the symbol of the royal family.
"I am Prince Kaiden’s familiar and someone who is far above you in status. You should head back now if you know what is good for you."
The noble looked scared once she saw the sword. She tried to say that it was a bluff, but her instincts told her that it was real.
"I... let’s head back. We have spent too much time here anyway."
She told her maids and left Shuu and Nero alone.
Nero sighed before he turned to look at Shuu. He looked displeased with Shuu, which made Shuu tense up as well.
