[BL]The Hero and his Party Won't Let Me Go-Chapter 203: Ch : Dismissal
Shuu walked quickly through the hallways to get to Kaiden’s room. His heart was pounding loudly inside his chest, and it was beginning to hurt a little bit. The closer he got to Kaiden’s room, the weirder he felt.
’Is this...really alright for me to be here? Something feels massively wrong. I feel like...I don’t belong here...’
The familiar hallway was suddenly looking unfamiliar to Shuu, and his head spun. He kept walking until he felt his feet hitting some kind of obstacle, and that sent him flying.
Shuu quickly reached out to grab on to something, but all he had for balance was the wall beside him. It hurt a lot, but at least he was able to maintain his balance.
That sudden burst of pain cleared his head, and Shuu finally noticed the weird smell in the air that had certainly been behind his sudden headache. It was coming from the maid’s basket as she cleaned the hallway.
His sudden dizziness earned him more than a few curious looks, but no one came over to help him out.
Shuu wanted to ask the maid what she had mixed in the bucket, but confronting someone else felt like a daunting task he was not built for. So he decided not to ask in the end.
’Is that it? We almost got injured very badly, and this is all we are going to do in return? We can almost convince someone that we are a saint, with how much patience we show them all. They all should be grateful to have us here.’
The voice whispered, and Shuu tried his hardest not to jump and kept walking.
However, no matter how calm he tried to appear, it was of no use because that voice kept speaking to him.
’There are so many humans here, but no one understands us. No one wants to understand us either. Is this what we are trying so hard for? Hmmm? We know that the only person who can understand us is the goddess. These humans are just wearing a mask that can turn away in a second.’
Shuu remained quiet and did not say anything else. The more Shuu heard his inner subconsciousness, the more he found himself silently agreeing with that voice.
But he was still not ready to give up yet.
’Oh well. I am sure we will make the right choice once the opportunistic moment comes. It will not be too long.’
"What does that mean-!"
Shuu asked, but the voice was gone. He also realized that he had reached Kaiden’s changing chambers, but the Emperor was nowhere to be seen.
In fact, the chamber did not even look like it had been used at all.
"He is...not here? Where did Kaiden even go?"
Shuu asked as he looked around the room. In the end, he decided to leave this place and head back to his room to wait for the emperor. What else could he do in such a situation but wait.
His mouth felt a little bitter at this feeling, but Shuu did not let it get to him.
He opened the door to head back, only to run into a solid and familiar chest that was heaving due to being out of breath.
"I apologize. I am not late, right? I went to your room, but you were not there..."
The emperor was finally here, and he looked to be out of breath. But Shuu did not pay attention to that, and his body lightened instantly.
Shuu had not seen the emperor in days, but nothing seemed to have changed in him. He looked and acted the same as always—the same compassion and concern that made Shuu melt.
"You did not have to wait long for me, right? If so, then I apologize. I will try not to cause this problem in the future..."
Kaiden looked flustered as he looked anywhere but at Shuu. That made Shuu giggle, and he reached out to poke Kaiden’s cheeks.
"It is fine. I just got here as well, so it has not been that long. But you should change your clothes first. The ceremony will start any second now, and we cannot be late."
The emperor sighed and quickly walked inside.
The other maids who had heard Shuu’s words quickly tried to come inside as well. But they stopped as soon as they noticed that Shuu was standing at the door, stopping them.
Seeing Shuu standing at the gate made the maids uncomfortable, and they refused to move inside past him. They also refused to bow to him, and a brave maid even dared to question him.
"Companion Shuu, is there a reason you are stopping us from entering? We need to help the emperor change and get ready. Please allow us to do our duty, which you cannot handle."
The maid was polite, but her remarks were cutting.
Shuu had gotten used to the maids talking to him as if he was someone lesser, so he did not care much for their tone and did not pay them any attention. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
But Kaiden was a different matter.
His eyes flashed as he looked at the maids, and Shuu had a bad feeling as soon as he noticed that look.
Before Shuu could say anything to resolve this situation, Kaiden walked over to them, and the maids looked hopeful to see him.
And then Kaiden plastered himself all over Shuu’s back and rested his weight on Shuu. His eyes lazily looked over the maids as he dismissed them.
"It seems like the servants of the imperial family have a lot of pride...even enough to talk back to my companion. In that case, I am sure you all won’t have trouble finding work somewhere else as well."
The maids paled at those words, and they immediately dropped to their knees.
"M-Master, don’t do this to us. W-We were mistaken. This will not happen again, we promise. Please don’t fire us."
The maids who had just realized what Kaiden meant to do quickly dropped to their knees and begged him, but Kaiden did not even look at them after he was done giving his word.
