The air sparked with unresolved tension as the two clashed. The servants were already tense and waiting to see what would happen.

Just when it seemed like the air would calm down, Lady Canarie spoke up.

"D-Don’t fight because of me. I...if it is better for me to participate in the interrogation, then I will do that. So please, don’t fight."

Danielle gave her cousin an annoyed look, but ultimately calmed herself down.

’There is a limit to misunderstanding, and this is crossing it. Then again, Canarie was always the oblivious kind.’

Princess Danielle placed a hand on Canarie’s shoulder and put some pressure on it to ground the other female.

"Don’t worry, Canarie. This is not happening because of you. Now, you should head back to your room and get ready for lunch. Don’t you want to impress the others?" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

She asked with a small smile on her face, and Canarie nodded before she left the room.

The fake smile stayed on Danielle’s face all this time, but it quickly faded away as she watched the female leave.

"Danielle, what are you planning? Is it something you cannot share with me?"

Prince Yunn asked in an almost pained voice, and Princess Danielle almost told him about everything. But she held back at the last second and gave the prince standing behind her a calm look.

"I am just doing what needs to be done. You do not have to worry about it. This is all for our own benefit. I can assure you this much."

She told the prince, but Yunn looked a lot more worried compared to before.

He did not know what had happened to Danielle, but she felt...different these days. And his attempts to reach her were not working.

Still, he did not want to force her to speak, so he allowed her some space to work things out. He was sure she would tell him all about herself once she was ready.

Until then, he could only silently support her.

"Shuu, I missed you so much. Ugh, I don’t want to work anymore. Do you think I can name Caelis the next emperor already? Liam can help him out-"

"Kaiden, Caelis is too young for it. Besides, don’t you already leave all your work to Liam? One day, he’s gonna quit and leave all the work to you."

Shuu reminded the Emperor, but Kaiden only scoffed at him.

"As if-! There is no way Liam will ever quit. He’s too much of a coward and a workaholic to do that. I bet he will cry if I give him an extended vacation."

’Yeah, he’ll cry tears of joy most likely.’

Shuu almost spoke up, but held himself back at the last second and gave the Emperor a smile instead.

But this silence did not last long as Caelis and Rin ran toward him.

"Shuu, join-! Play-!"

Caelis excitedly tugged at Shuu’s legs to get him to join, and Rin did the same but with a shy expression.

Shuu was about to get up and join them when Emperor Kaiden decided to be petty and hold him down.

"I am sorry, but Shuu will stay with me for now. I am not going to let him go. But if you do want someone to play with, you can have Nero for now."

Emperor Kaiden gestured toward Nero, who had just walked into the space. The kids turned to look at him immediately, and Nero felt a sense of dread at those looks.

"Is something wrong-"

Nero asked, only to be grabbed by Caelis and then dragged away.

"Nero, play-!"

"Play-"

The kids dragged him toward the garden, and Shuu looked a little worried.

"I think I should go with the kids just in case they do something dangerous. Nero is not used to playing with kids-"

"Nero will be fine. You are forgetting that Nero is my familiar. He can become their age if he wants to himself. You don’t have to worry about him."

Emperor Kaiden sounded just a little bit jealous when he said that. His grip also tightened around Shuu as he held him closer.

Shuu felt calmer in the Emperor’s embrace and allowed Nero to handle the kids for now. And soon, it was time for lunch.

The pair was so comfortable that they did not want to move. So Emperor Kaiden ordered lunch to be served in the garden instead.

Unfortunately, it soon came time for him to return to his office. So with a heavy heart, he went back to his office.

But halfway through, Kaiden realized that he was not alone. Someone was following him, and he paused to allow them to show themselves.

Lady Elysia wasted no time in presenting herself, and she gave a deep but affectionate bow to him.

"Emperor Kaiden, no, my God-! I cannot tell you how huge of an honor it is for me to see you standing in front of me like this. Please, allow me to dedicate my life to you as your companion and devotee."

The lady bowed as low as she could and kept herself there. She was going to show the Emperor just how obedient and useful she was.

Unfortunately for her, the Emperor was not interested and decided to take his leave. His eyes looked at her briefly before they moved away.

But that sliver of a look was enough for Lady Elysia to make plans.

’Emperor Kaiden is not totally uninterested in me. He paid me a little bit of attention. That means I still have a chance to gain his attention.’

And to do that, she needed to get rid of all other obstacles in her way.

First, she needed to get some help. So she decided to head out and meet the maids captured by the soldiers. They would be able to tell her who was after Shuu’s life, and then she could use that information.

As for the danger? She was not worried about it. Her god’s protection would make sure nothing happened to her.
