Chapter 300: 300: A Dream I

MODERN, A FEW YEARS AGO...

*******

The two of them had met on a rainy day, in the most ordinary and unexpected moment of time.

Eden was standing under a tree for shelter from the rain. Class had just ended, so he was rushing to go to a part-time job.

But the rain was heavy, so he was forced to stand there under the tree and wait. But before long, a tall figure stood beside him.

Eden casually stared at the tall figure beside him. Neither of them spoke to each other, but they stood there under the rain, waiting for it to stop.

They stood long enough for the two of them to get a good look at each other’s faces without speaking. And before it even stopped raining, a car had pulled over before them and the tall guy had stepped in and left.

And that was how their first meeting went.

It didn’t look like fate, and Eden never expected to meet the tall, handsome, rich-looking young man again. But he did.

He always did. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

As though fate was playing some games, Eden kept meeting him. In classes, in the cafeteria, on the street, even at the restaurant where he worked. The tall young man always came with his best friends, who also seemed rich.

He kept crossing paths with him, and they only said casual "Hellos" to each other and went their ways.

But for weeks, fate continued its game. Crossing their paths in unexpected ways, until they finally spoke.

Eden had just saved a cat from the road, and he bent down with the cat at a corner, stroking it.

The tall young man was sitting on the bench outside at the moment. He had seen Eden save the cat and couldn’t help but watch as he played with it.

He too found himself smiling.

And so the young man, who recognised him, made his way towards him.

"You seem to like cats a lot," he said.

"Huh?" Eden looked up at him; he recognised him. "You?"

"Yes. Me," he smiled at Eden. His smile was hotter than he was, Eden thought. And his dark hair went well with his pretty, deep eyes.

He bent down beside Eden, stroking the cat too. "We’ve been meeting a lot lately, don’t you think it’s funny?"

Eden nodded. "I guess." The two stared down at the cat.

"You’re a nice person," he said.

"Why?" It was something casual one would say, but Eden stared at him curiously, as though his response held the key to his redemption.

"I saw you saving the cat," he smiled. "You’re nice."

It was the first time a guy had told him he was nice. Most of the time, all the guys he’d meet would always describe him as pretty.

All the guys he dated used that description as their impression of him: You’re pretty. You’re so pretty.

It was a compliment for sure, and Eden liked it. But at some point, it began feeling superficial. At some point, he began hating the description.

"You’re the first to say that to me..." Eden smiled as he stroked the cat.

"Huh?"

"Nothing," Eden said. He couldn’t believe how good it felt for someone to tell him that. That he was nice. Another description he didn’t know he needed to hear.

"What’s your name?" he asked.

"Huh?"

"Your name. So next time we meet we can do more than hello, at least. And be friends," he smiled. "I’m Gideon. You?"

"Eden," Eden smiled.

"Good, then. Let’s exchange contacts," Gideon suggested.

The two became friends from that day on. They grew close enough to meet often, make jokes, and discuss life with each other.

They became comfortable enough with each other to share sensitive issues about family and dating life. And they grew close enough for Gideon to sometimes spend the night or days in Eden’s apartment.

It was a cute friendship that was also low-key. Because they became each other’s safe place and comfort zone without being together everywhere and all the time.

And with time, they grew soft for each other. Soft enough to begin longing for each other, enough to begin missing each other. Enough to begin realising that they were growing feelings for each other.

But as expected, they were too scared to tell the other. Because they were scared it wouldn’t be mutual and they’d ruin their friendship.

But time had the perfect moment for them, and it all came together.

The two of them had attended a gathering at a club one night with Gideon’s friends. And Gideon ended up getting drunk.

The two of them met on the rooftop where they stood admiring the view of the city from there. And out of nowhere, Gideon confessed.

He wasn’t completely drunk, so at least he knew what he was saying. He expressed his feelings for Eden in the most heartfelt way possible.

They were the most beautiful words someone in love with him had used for him. Words that almost brought him to tears. And without hesitation, he had accepted the confession with a kiss.

Their first kiss, which they had shared on the rooftop under a full moon and fireworks. It was a beautiful one.

And from then henceforth, the two of them began dating. They started dating secretly. Their secret romance was rather youthful and cute.

Hiding their feelings in front of their friends while sneaking off to meet each other. Meeting and kissing in secret when they would be free. And even sometimes spending time at Eden’s place and making out.

They grew more in love as time went on. And soon, they made their relationship public. Their friends were supportive, and the two of them got clingy and insufferable in front of their friends, always third-wheeling them.

They would always be affectionate in public. It was a perfect relationship. A perfect campus relationship that they were sure would last till the end.

One that they were sure would defeat social disapproval and all. Because they were so in love that they could make anything possible.

But before anyone could even realise, things began falling apart for them.
