Chapter 91: Hungry

"I guess you don’t need my help anymore," Ren finally said just in time for Kiyoshi to drive the car over to them.

Haruki’s eyes widened as he turned to look at the man beside him. "I . . ." Haruki began to say something but he could not complete the sentence. First, he was baffled that Ren said something like that and second, he was confused by what Ren meant.

"Go on," Ren said when Kiyoshi got down from the car and walked over to them.

Haruki ignored Kiyoshi and turned to Ren. He looked very serious as he said, "I need you around. I might have not included you in what I did this time and I have come to acknowledge that it is an absolute mess and with the mess I have made, I need someone as smart as you are to clean it all up."

It was Ren’s turn to look astonished. He looked around before his gaze fell on Haruki again.

"I don’t think you handled it wrong. I made the mess and you were only trying to clean it up for me. Everything that happened began because I did not pay enough attention to what everyone was doing in the underworld."

This was one of the few times Ren sincerely accepted his flaws in handling a matter. Haruki agreed that everything that happened began because Ren did not do his work well enough to ensure his granduncle was dealing with anything extreme in the underworld.

"You will need better Intel and watch out for those you work with. Someone must have known but either they were paid to keep it from you or threatened. We have to be very careful with our dealings with them."

"Perhaps they are trying to kick us out before we finally cut our connections with them," Ren voiced his suspicion.

Haruki paused for a while. If it won’t affect them a lot, Haruki was more than pleased to be considered an outcast in the underworld but considering the first major loss this has caused, it was best to maintain amiable relationships with those they dealt with.

"We have a few things to do then," Haruki said thoughtfully. "This should be discussed seriously among us as soon as we get the chance to."

"After dinner?" Ren asked.

"No, tomorrow," Haruki replied as he gestured to Kiyoshi to give him the key to his car.

Haruki could see that Ren was not pleased with his response but he was hungry and considering his stubborn appetite he wanted to find something he could use to satisfy his suddenly selective appetite.

Haruki got into the car and Kiyoshi hurried over to close the door. As he drove out, he could see another car coming behind him through the rear mirror. He knew it was for his safety, but it was beginning to piss him off.

Remembering the noodles he ate at Hiroshi’s home, he drove directly to the underground parking lot. It was very easy for him to get into the building and even easier for him to remember the pin to open the door considering Hiroshi literally showcased it to him that evening.

The man must still be at work but he did not bother calling or visiting him at the hospital first before coming over. He opened the man’s packed fridge and found a packet of grapes. He turned everything in a bowl and rinsed it at the sink.

He took the bowl with him to the couch and turned on the television. He might refuse to admit but there was something relaxing about the man’s house. Something that gave him the peace of mind to tune in to a channel showing a boring action movie.

He kept pupping one grape after the other into his mouth until all he touched in the bowl was the bottom. He finally looked down at the bowl, it was empty. He rose up from the chair and went into the kitchen again.

He opened the fridge and soon he found something in there to eat, berries. A packet of assorted berries. He turned this too into the bowl and rinsed it before going back to the living room and began repeating the same actions of throwing a berry into his mouth while fixing his gaze on the screen of the TV.

Strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, another he didn’t know the name of and yet another with an unknown name and back again until his fingers began selecting them in that order until the bowl was empty.

He looked down when his fingers could not grab another one. With a grunt, he placed the bowl on the coffee table and continued watching the movie.

When it got to the end screen, he finally rose up from the chair once again. He looked at the clock, and he shook his head in disbelief at the fact that he had sat through a movie for more than one hour thirty minutes and it was a very boring low-budget movie but he was feeling bored enough to occupy with it. free𝑤ebnovel.com

He wondered when the doctor would get back but he felt no need to call the doctor, so he went to the kitchen and opened one of the cabinets and picked a packet of noodles.

Moving with the memories he had from the past, he prepared a very basic pot of noodles with a boiled egg. Grabbing a chopstick, he sat down on the island to eat.

"Bon appetit," he murmured with his hands pressed together before digging into the bowl almost salivating from the aroma of the hot meal before him.

The muffled sound of him slopping filled the relatively empty house. When he was done emptying the bowl, he rose up and washed up for the night, everything he used that night was kept waiting for him.

His limbs felt tired and weak as he headed straight to bed. He fell on the bed and didn’t even bother getting under the covers after he turned off the lights. He closed his eyes and almost literally passed out enveloped by the unique scent of the man who owned the room.

When he woke up the next day, he could not believe he had slept for that long. He realized he had slept for almost twelve hours when he looked at the digital clock on the nightstand. His brows furrowed slightly as he reached to gently rub his eyes and sit up.

He went to the living room but didn’t see any workout equipment. He pushed the door of the other bedroom and found nothing he could use. With a frown, he went to bathe and left the house after Kiyoshi brought his clothes.

Haruki didn’t see the doctor throughout his stay in the man’s house but he concluded that the man must have had to remain at work. Hiroshi was a doctor and he could understand that the man’s schedule could be different from his.

He didn’t think much about it as he headed to work. He gave Kiyoshi a detailed order for his breakfast. When he was served, he tasted it hoping it would taste as good as what the doctor served him that morning but he ended up finishing it with a frown.

He was not oblivious to the importance of eating well so skipping his meals without tangible reason was unnecessary so he tended to avoid doing that. He kept telling himself that he had to eat for his health and he shouldn’t bother about the taste while he ate the meal.

Kiyoshi watching his boss frowned too subconsciously as he watched his boss obviously force himself to eat his breakfast like a kid. He wondered how bad the food must taste for Haruki to look that way.

He made it note to ensure to check the restaurants’ food to ensure they don’t tarnish the name of their three Michelin star restaurant.

Work began fully for the day and Haruki got so busy he didn’t remember lunch existed. Kiyoshi was pleased that Haruki had forced himself to eat his breakfast or he would have been trying several methods to get Haruki to eat.

That would have proved fruitless as Haruki hated being interrupted during serious discussions and he would not want to be the one to do it considering the work was truly important for Haruki to complete.

However, there was someone who would without hesitation, bring Haruki’s meal to the office and ensure he eats well. It was as though that man had a special pass when it came to things involving Haruki’s wellbeing.

He was just a spectator and couldn’t confirm what Haruki was thinking about but it was certain that Haruki had given that man a free pass into his private life.

He remembered that night, the night he watched the two of them argue so much tension he could almost slice through the atmosphere with a knife . . .

It was only after work ended for the day did Haruki rose up from where he sat and stretched. He thought of going back to the doctor’s house.
