Chapter 94: Chapter 94: Jealousy Doesn’t Stay Silent

~Alistair’s POV~

"In our home? You didn’t think you should tell me?" he demanded. "What if I came back with my mother? Do you want to start another hardship?"

"I tried to call you," I said quickly. "I couldn’t reach you—"

"And because you couldn’t reach me, you decided it was okay to have him here?" Alex shot back.

His eyes hardened.

"How many times has he been here when I wasn’t around? How often are you bringing him into our home without me knowing?"

"No, Alex... it’s not like that," I said quickly, my voice breaking as tears filled my eyes. "He’s never been here before."

The weight of his anger hit me all at once. I stepped closer, reaching for him.

"I’m sorry, baby," I said quickly. "I didn’t mean for this to happen. I didn’t think you’d react like this. I tried to call you, I swear."

My voice trembling.

"It won’t happen again... please forgive me."

"Forgive you?" Alex scoffed, running a hand through his hair as he paced the room.

"I come home after a long day, wanting to see my husband... and I find another man sitting right beside him in our living room?" he said, his voice tight with anger. "That’s not normal, Alis. I don’t even want to imagine what the two of you were doing here for hours."

"Alex, please—"

"Alis, please," he interrupted, his voice dropping into a tired, frustrated rasp. "I don’t understand you sometimes. You know what is wrong and what is right. It’s not like I’ve ever brought anyone into this house behind your back. You would never see me do that. Even if I wanted to, I would tell you. I’d tell you several times and make sure you were completely okay with it first."

He stepped closer, his eyes searching mine. "You called, you texted... you knew I was busy and couldn’t reply. Yet, you went ahead and brought a man into our home, someone you know had intentions toward you before he found out we were married. How do you want me to react? If I did the same thing to you, how would you feel?"

"I’m sorry," I murmured, the guilt heavy in my chest. "I’m so sorry, Alex. It won’t happen again."

"Putting my feelings aside," Alex continued, pacing the room again, "what if it had been my mother who walked in? Or my father... or any of my relatives?"

He looked at me.

"What if they saw him here and told my mother? She doesn’t even know Andrew. The last time she saw him was at that mess at the golf club. When you want to do something like this, Alis... please, let me know. Carry me along. Inform me."

He ran a hand through his damp hair. "My mother can come here anytime, you should expect that. But Andrew doesn’t have that kind of right, so why would you bring him here?"

I couldn’t even find words to apologize anymore. I simply walked toward him and threw my arms around his waist, burying my face in his chest. "Please, baby, forgive me. I know I was wrong. I should have made sure you were informed and had agreed to it first. I’m sorry... I’m so sorry. It won’t happen again."

Slowly, I felt the tension leave his body. He sighed, his hands finally resting on my back as he began to calm down.

"I’m not saying you can’t have friends or bring them over," he said softly. "Just let me know next time... inform me first, and let me agree to it."

Alex pulled back slightly, looking at me with a pained expression.

"Maybe I’m the one making things difficult for you because of the kind of family I have," he said quietly. "I’m sorry for that too."

He held my gaze.

"But since we’ve chosen to be together through all of this... please, just let me know next time. I’m trying not to give my mother any reason to complain about you. I don’t want her to have even a single excuse."

His voice softened.

"Please... understand me."

"I understand, baby," I said, looking up at him through tear-filled eyes.

Alex leaned down, his forehead resting against mine. "I’m sorry for shouting at you, Alis. I just don’t want any meeting or any situation that will bring more trouble or hardship to us again. We’ve been through enough."

"I’m sorry too," I murmured.

He leaned in and kissed me, a soft, lingering kiss.

After a moment, he took my hand, his grip firm and familiar.

"Okay," he said quietly, the tension finally easing. "Let’s go downstairs."

Hand in hand, we walked out of the room together.

As we walked downstairs, Alex squeezed my hand and glanced at me.

"My sister called me earlier, on my way home," he said. "She said Mom reached out to her... she wants her to come over this weekend."

I looked at him, slightly surprised. "Your sister called you and you picked up? But I called you so many times and you didn’t answer."

"I was really busy at work, so I didn’t see your calls at first," Alex said, his voice softer. "But when I was done and saw how many times you’d called, I tried to reach you back immediately. I even replied to your messages, but you didn’t respond."

He looked at me.

"That’s why I left the office early... I got worried when I didn’t hear from you."

"Oh," I murmured. "I’m sorry, baby. I got caught up in what Andrew was showing me and didn’t check my phone."

"It’s okay, let’s just eat," he said, leading me to the dining table.

As we sat down and the maid served our dinner, Alex leaned back, a thoughtful expression on his face. "It’s actually very surprising that my mother finally wants to reconcile with my sister. My father and so many other people have tried to talk sense into her for a long time with no luck."

He looked at me intently, his eyes searching mine. "She mentioned that whatever you said to her really got to her. I don’t know exactly what you told her, Alis, but it clearly hit home. She’s actually changing... and honestly, it’s surprising to see."
