Chapter 81: Chapter 17: The Investigator’s Daily Life

The morning sunlight poured down.

Shawn got up, stretched lazily, and went to the balcony to gaze at the distant Grand Pendulum Clock.

The current time was 7:35 AM.

Shawn quickly freshened up, heated a cup of milk for himself, and added a spoonful of sugar. It’s said that adding three spoons of sugar might invite something strange. He made bacon and fried eggs for breakfast. Shawn planned to buy some noodles tomorrow. Dorne’s noodles are somewhat like Italian pasta. When he has time, he can cook a bowl of noodles for himself.

At 8:30 AM, Shawn changed his clothes, took his coat and umbrella, and prepared to go out.

As time entered May, the Dorne Region also welcomed the rainy season. The climate in the real world is relatively regular. Every year, May and June belong to the rainy season, and it will likely snow by the end of December. The climate here is so ideal, probably having a lot to do with the Path of Nature.

So far, Shawn hasn’t encountered any extreme weather here. Even during the rainy season, storms like typhoon days are rare.

"Good morning, Mr. Sean," a greeting sounded.

At the staircase stood a cleaning woman named Yima. She is considered a janitor here, raising three children, one boy and two girls. She works very hard and also handles laundry tasks.

Shawn tipped his hat as a gesture, nodded, and said, "Good morning."

After speaking, he brushed past her, and Yima stood aside at the staircase, carefully putting away the tools to avoid dirty water splashing onto Shawn’s trousers.

After Shawn’s figure disappeared, she picked up her tools and resumed her work.

This is a high-end apartment, and she cherishes her job opportunity here. Because of the extra laundry work recently, her monthly salary can reach around 260 dinars, which is nearly the salary of workers in the Wharf District.

Although she has to work until late every day, Yima is still very happy because this salary is enough to send another child to school.

"Girls should also learn some culture, at the very least, they should know how to read."

"In the future, when they marry, they won’t be called illiterate."

Yima doesn’t know how to read, but she is very hardworking.

Shawn looked up at the weather, put away his umbrella, and prepared to take the tram over to the Grand Pendulum Clock area. The tram can take him directly to the station near the headquarters. Tram tickets in Dorne City are a bit pricey, 0.5 dinars per person, so most ordinary people still prefer to walk. The City Hall is pushing for a reduction in tram ticket prices, but the initial investment costs need to be recovered. In the short term, only white-collar workers are likely to afford it.

Two trips a day, and the monthly travel expenses would still be 30 dinars. The ticket price is not cheap.

At the street corner.

Shawn saw a little girl selling flowers. She was wearing a slightly faded white dress that had been washed many times, but compared to when he first met her, her complexion looked much better, with more of the rosy hue that children should have.

Her dress looked changed, although it wasn’t new, it no longer had patches like that old dress.

Seeing Shawn wave, she ran over cheerfully.

She was very sensible.

She only approached when Shawn waved.

"Good morning, Mr. Sean," the little girl politely bowed and greeted.

Shawn took out his wallet, pulled out a 1 dinar bill, and handed it to her, picking a carnation at random, smiling, "Good morning."

The little girl took out a 5 Seth coin from her pocket, handed it over, and bowed again to thank, "Thank you, sir."

"Wish you a pleasant day."

Shawn took the coin, smiled, and turned to walk towards the Grand Pendulum Clock.

The tram fee was exactly 5 Seth. He didn’t like carrying too much change, so he conveniently bought a flower, and the change could be used for the tram ride.

Today is Friday, not many people at headquarters.

Benjamin was off to Wind Valley Town on some business, William just came back yesterday and was probably still asleep today. He drank too much yesterday and brought a pretty woman home in the middle of the night.

At the entrance of the headquarters, Shawn saw Quinn. She was one of the most diligent Investigators and was always working whenever Shawn arrived.

"Good morning, Quinn," Shawn tipped his hat in greeting.

Quinn nodded slightly, she was not very talkative and was a very efficient Investigator.

Shawn turned and walked towards the library.

During this period, Shawn came to the headquarters every morning to read, mainly searching for information on various bizarre creatures. It’s essentially a biological lexicon, all collected and compiled by Investigators and Night Watchers risking their lives in the past. Being on the Wizard Path, with the aid of ’Reading Magic’, Shawn far surpasses other Investigators in memory, so he became an expert in this area within a short month.

Time flew by.

At 12:15 PM, Shawn got up to go to the cafeteria for lunch.

He met Jason Tangel returning in the hallway, the most frequently seen Death Pilgrim at headquarters; the others were elusive.

Jason had a big appetite and, if not on a mission, would report to the cafeteria punctually every day.

He had an injury that took about a month to fully recover. He went on a trip to the Dagon Region a few days ago and only returned yesterday afternoon. His left arm seemed to have a fracture, and at that moment, he was holding a roast leg of lamb in one hand, eating with gusto at the cafeteria entrance.

This kind of minor injury wasn’t a big issue, and it would recover in a day or two.

"Hasn’t Hank returned yet?" Shawn greeted and went to the cafeteria window to grab a tray.
