Chapter 404: Chapter 37: Meteor from the Heavens! The Descent of the Dragon! (Part 2)

"The destiny and fortune that were upon Aemon have now transferred to you."

The notion of the Child of the Plane has always existed. Throughout history, there have been many figures showered with fortune, such as Elminster, Shirek, and Vikner, to name a few. While not all prominent figures rise to power solely relying on fortune, it is undeniable that those blessed with fortune find it easier to rise again. In the Crystal Wall System, individuals who ascend without any fortune are exceedingly rare, and such beings are usually immensely powerful. When one’s strength reaches a certain level, fortune will automatically seek them out.

To put it more harshly, when you reach a certain level of power, even misfortune won’t dare to approach you; it will only dare to seek your enemies.

This is also why so many people pray for the favor of the Goddess of Fortune while secretly cursing her as a fickle goddess of luck.

"Before the portal to the Distant Realm opens in Mark City, we can’t provide you with much help." 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

The Space-Time Guardian slowly said, "We have no power to interfere with the decisions of the Lady of Pain, so we can only wait for the opportunity in the shadows. However, before that, offering you a little assistance poses no issue."

"It won’t take long before a Time Dragon crosses the Burning Element Sea to enter the Crystal Wall System of the Distant Universe, and when that time comes, it will seek you out."

Shawn’s figure walked out of the Secret Technique Area.

Due to the awakening of the Swamp Overlord, Mendor, the entire Bizarre Realm is shrouded in a faint poisonous mist, most severe at dawn and dusk. Many travelers on the road wear gas masks, which are small curios that can increase poison resistance. Those who do not wear gas masks are mostly Transcendents transformed into non-human races, such as Demons, Devils, and Purgatory creatures who need not worry about poisonous gas, Serpents and Lizardmen with high poison resistance, and Dwarves of strong constitution, who have little problem.

The poison of the Swamp Overlord has dispersed throughout the planet, having been diluted greatly, but as long as it is unresolved, mortals cannot set foot in the Bizarre Realm.

"Now the atmospheric composition of the Material Plane is nearly identical to that of Pandora Planet. If mortals breathe the air, they will die within ten minutes."

Abyss City, under the protection of the Maze Lock, faces less severe issues.

However, since Aemon’s departure, the progress of the campaign against the Swamp Overlord has stalled, and until Lady Hecate can intervene, Shawn can think of no one who would willingly challenge the old ones.

Specter Alley.

This is the Thief District of Abyss City, where those active predominantly follow the Wandering Path. From Demons to humans, all races gather here, and occasionally you may even spot Serpents. Transcendents, to adapt to the harsh environment of the Bizarre Realm, have maximized their various survival talents.

Not being human anymore is the norm; if you remain human, that’s what’s unique.

Shawn pushed open a hidden door, entering an underground passage. Ahead, there was a cunning little demon, which might not have been transformed from a human, since Aemon had attempted to transform fresh souls into Demon Form.

Such demons might be the souls of the deceased, transformed in a blood pool.

Aemon made several attempts to unlock the Tanarri Demon’s evolutionary gene tree, starting the metamorphosis from a Soul Worm into a Demon.

Shawn, expressionless, entered the underground nexus of Abyss City and, upon turning into a dim hall, addressed the male Dark Elf ahead, "Information exchange."

"I need the active locations of all Pillars of Flesh and Blood within a thousand kilometers around Abyss City."

Behind the counter stood a tall and thin Dark Elf. His languid gaze swept over Shawn, and his expression instantly turned solemn. He slightly bowed and said, "Understood. It will be ready soon."

A minute later.

The Dark Elf presented a map drawn by adventurers, detailing everything from the surface world to the underworld. Abyss City has been actively expanding outward in recent years, and he respectfully handed it over, saying, "My Lord, this is the map you need."

The Invisible Hand took it.

Shawn looked up and asked, "How much?"

The Dark Elf’s expression was a bit surprised. He shook his head, saying, "There’s no charge, Lord Shawn."

He recognized him.

Shawn nodded slightly, put away the items, and turned to leave.

Before he left, the tall and thin Dark Elf softly said, "If my lord needs manpower, you can inform us at any time."

"We belong to one of the Shadow Guards under Abyss City."

Members of the Seven Evil Guards.

Though he did not know who their leader was.

Shawn nodded in acknowledgment and left the Thief District. Abyss City still possesses many forces loyal to Aemon. These forces have a tendency to align with Shawn, but a full submission might require some opportune moment.

On his way back to the Demon Tower, Shawn noticed that there were very few dead on the streets, and hardly any undead creatures were active.

"The teacher is not concerned with Abyss City."

Frowning slightly, Shawn mused to himself, "She only nominally controls Abyss City, having fully taken over the Maze Lock Area, but she hasn’t ventured into other areas at all."

Lady Hecate’s actions give the impression of managing Abyss City on behalf of someone else.

Everything here continues as it was.

Under Lady Hecate, the forces commanded by the Seven Evil Guards remain, although one of the Seven Evil Guards has perished, leaving a large area without leadership.

Shawn wiped the Witch King’s Ring on his hand.

If Lady Hecate has no interest in wasting too much effort on Abyss City, he might take over everything in Abyss City, since he possesses Aemon’s true name and holds one of the seven Witch King’s Rings.
