Chapter 181: Chapter 19: One Against Two! Slaying the Clan!

Tonight is very quiet.

When Shawn got up to clear his mind, he realized tonight was unusually quiet. After thinking, he discovered that the noisy Flying Head Monsters and Hags didn’t appear, or at least weren’t racing in the sky over this area.

The old Shawn, upon seeing them, saw a group of strange and terrifying evil spirits, just bald and grim heads flying chaotically in the air. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

The current Shawn saw them as Bizarre Realm’s speed demons and restless youth, doing nothing good all day, yet every night racing wildly from the Spirit Realm to the Material Plane.

A group of irresponsible evil spirits, bound to get beaten up one day!

— "Without fear in the heart, there is no fear; with thoughts in the heart, there is also no fear."

It was already very late.

When Shawn looked into the distance, he could see the shadows of the black giants, but seeing the magnificent silhouettes of these giants again, he felt nothing.

"The consumption of Primitive Magic Power was a bit much today."

"Starting tomorrow, I should go out for a walk at night, too."

Shawn quietly planned his next move. He couldn’t just hide whenever night came. Although the challenge level of the Bizarre Realm was higher at night with many evil spirits from other planes appearing, he needed to face it all eventually, and now was a good time to acclimatize.

Ding!

A warning bell echoed in Shawn’s mind, indicating his Magic Alert Trap had triggered, directly mind sensing him that someone was near the Eye Demon Nest and had activated the warning trap.

"Someone snuck in?"

Shawn calmly began casting, summoning an Invisible Servant, placing it next to the Explosive Trap, ready to set it off at any moment. The trap was meant for Shawn’s use, so it didn’t need to be too complicated, just well hidden.

"Fortunately, I saved some Primitive Magic Power."

Calmly, Shawn cast Protective Spells on himself, first an Energy Shift Force Field, then a Shield Skill. As previously mentioned, the Energy Shift Force Field is very useful for diverting physical damage, and the latter summons an invisible force field shield about the size of a Tower Shield, able to block Magic Missiles and provide additional protective capabilities.

The Shield Skill can block attacks from incorporeal beings like ghosts, spirits, and evil spirits, with a wide range of applications for the force field shield.

Of course, this was just the beginning.

In the advancement ceremony, the spells Shawn mastered were primarily for survival; the Mind Path had few spells, so he naturally prioritized the general-use Spiritual Protection Field.

— Spiritual Armor (Level 1 Spell)!

An invisible armor formed from a spiritual ability field enveloped Shawn, inside the Shield Skill and Energy Shift Force Field, closely fitting like armor, paralleling a suit of armor but without weight, not hindering any bodily action.

Spiritual Spells have a unique feature: all spells can be ascended through consuming more Spiritual Points, further enhancing the power of Level 1 Spells. Currently, Shawn can channel up to 5-level power with Spiritual Points.

The protection level provided by the current Spiritual Armor is akin to a full-body armor rated at Marvel Level.

— Defense Prediction (Level 1 Spell)!

Similarly, he used more Spiritual Points to ascend this spell, enhancing Shawn’s five senses, letting him extend his perception into the ’future’ by one second, preemptively predicting all the enemy’s attacks. It provides additional dodge enhancement and fortifies Shawn’s saving ability, serving as an insight into future enhancement.

This is essentially a low-tier Death Retrospect, roughly predicting enemy attacks by one second, helping Shawn evade most ambushes.

However, if the enemy’s attack is too fierce, it may not be effective.

This Spiritual Spell counts as internal enhancement, leaning towards a sixth-sense boosting capability.

Shawn actually had another Force Field Barrier shield boost, but it overlapped with the Wizard Path’s Shield Skill, so there was no need to apply it. Without ascending the spell, the Wizard’s Shield Skill was more practical with lower Primitive Magic Power consumption.

If ascending the spell, using the consumption of 5-level spiritual energy for an additional empowered force field shield seemed a bit much.

"There’s just one last Spiritual Reinforcement—Skin Thickening."

"This, too, is a Level 1 Spiritual Spell, but the pathway to acquire it was rather troublesome."

Within a few seconds, Shawn completed all the protective boosts, and their duration was quite long, sufficient for most combat scenarios.

His current protective spells, from outside to inside, are—Shield Skill (Force Field Shield), Minor Energy Shift Field, Spiritual Armor (Force Field Armor), Defense Prediction (Internal Five Senses Enhancement).

Just one more Skin Thickening, and given Shawn’s current ability, he could enhance his skin to the Dragon Skin Level of a typical sub-dragon species.

With this set of buff spells, standing still to take gunfire shouldn’t prove fatal.

However, from the outside, he still appears to be just a plain spell caster dressed in plain cloth.

"A Triple Gravity Field Shield should be enough."

Shawn contemplated and ultimately refrained from further Attribute Enhancement spells, as he wasn’t from the Warrior Path and wasn’t planning to take up arms for a fight. There was no need to enhance attributes like Strength, Agility, and Constitution. Preserving more of the Mana Pool for unexpected situations was the best choice.
