Chapter 82: Something Born From Pure Instinct Is About to Join the Family.

Maddy, who had just been excited to head out, now found herself back at the Mobile Womb Chamber. Her children trailing behind sensing a shift in the atmosphere that was more terrifying than any spar. She felt it deep in her bones, that chimera worm had stirred something in her.

"Lucy!"

Maddy shouted into the mental void.

"If that worm lived on pure monster instinct, then I’m going to give that instinct a purpose."

Maddy opened her Birthing Customization, her fingers were too fast as she was already knew what she wanted to create. In an instant she aldreay click her base.

[System Warning]

[That Base material’s Pure Instinct is highly volatile. Resulting offspring will be unpredictable and prone to extreme behaviors. Proceed?]

"Oh, Lucy, since when have I ever cared about ’predictable’? We’re not making another general today. We’re making an army!"

Maddy’s fingers danced across the holographic interface of her Mobile Womb Chamber. She didn’t choose a complex humanoid form this time—she went back to the roots.

"A mother needs more than just generals. She needs a shadow that follows her. Eyes in every corner of this cave."

Her mind flicked to the Suzerain Spider, recalling its entry in her Monsterpedia:

[Suzerain Spider (Evolved Form) — Habitat: Cave]

[Supreme queen and progenitor of the swarm. Gives birth to specialized, weapon-limbed spiders: sword, spear, shield, and ranged variants by digesting weapons. All spiders recognize her as their mother and obey without question, forming an unstoppable army.]

"Yeah... I remember those spiders. Even operating on pure instinct, they moved under their mother’s command. That Chimera Worm—I don’t want to waste its potential. I want to see what it would do naturally, without instinct. But this time... it won’t be left to blind impulses."

Without altering the fundamental structure, Maddy adjusted the base coloration from a beige to a sleek, metallic purplish gray. She layered on defensive traits reinforcing the hide and bone density until it was rugged enough to shrug off the claws of an Alpha predator. In under a minute, the blueprint was complete.

"Yes... this is exactly what I wanted. At first, I wanted to build a home full of humanoids. I wanted them to represent the children I lost back on Earth... their self-awareness and emotions make them special. They make us a family."

Her tone shifted.

"But this time... I want to experiment. I want to see what a pure, natural monster will do under my guidance. I want to observe it, to map its instincts, and truly understand..."

She paused, a shadow of calculated curiosity crossing her face.

"...what its evolution path will eventually become."

She slammed her palms against the confirmation button.

"CONFIRM!"

A blinding flash erupted from the mobile womb as it created a single small sac, the liquid inside the womb began to churn and boil.

Sephiran stared, wide-eyed and trembling, his fingers twisting nervously.

"What... what is Mother doing? Those aren’t Big Brothers or Sisters... that’s too small! How could our siblings even fit in that sac? Will they be able to breathe?"

Arach’s six eyes narrowed as he watched the sac pulse and shimmer. His massive arms folded calmly across his chest.

"Sephi... don’t worry. Mother is doing something new. She’s recreating that worm—the one looks like her. She loves it enough to make it her own... whatever comes out of that sac, it will be part of her, and it will become our family too."

Sephiran’s eyes went wide.

"So... we’re going to have a... worm brother?"

Arach nodded slowly, his four massive arms still folded.

"Yes?... something like that."

Maddy stood before the glowing chamber, the reflection of the small, pulsing egg shimmering in her eyes. She turned to her children, a sly, mischievous wink breaking through her otherwise terrifying presence.

"Get ready, kids. You’re about to have a... very hungry little sibling. And it’s going to need a lot of snacks!"

[System Notice]

[Gestation for ’Vermi’ has begun.]

Miles away, the perspective shifted, from the bizarre, hyper-evolved sanctuary of a Chimera Mother to the harsh wilderness of the Shellgrave’s surface.

Erwin heaved his claymore, the blade tearing free from the chest of an aggressive Hobgoblin with a wet, gut churning sound.

"Damn it... just as I suspected."

Panting, his golden armor streaked with putrid sludge, he wiped his brow. His eyes scanned the corpses of the Hobgoblin, their dark blood staining the vibrant green of the land.

"I hoped our party wouldn’t have to engage in battle... but it seems my preparations were accurate. Inside the Shellgrave, the mana distortion is even worse than expected."

A burst of wind slammed through the group. From the far side, the sky churned into a storm of pure, violent violet mana, swirling in a localized tempest that crackled with enough raw power to level a mountain.

"Another one... six distortions in a single day... this is getting worse,"

Lita muttered, her hands trembling slightly as she dispelled the lingering cold of a frost spell.

"The Guild scouts reported only one per week last month. But this—this place is going critical. We’ve never seen anything like it before. This is clearly—"

Erwin cut her off before she could finish.

"This is exactly why we’re on this mission. We need to enter the cave and discover what’s causing these distortions. If we don’t act, more monsters like these will spawn, and without someone to purge them, they’ll overrun the outpost villages. Humanity simply doesn’t have the shielding to survive distortions of this magnitude."

Gela leaned against a calcified tree, wiping a smudge of black ichor from her cheek. She reached out, placing a hand on Erwin’s shoulder. It was a gentle touch, but her expression was hard.

"You’ve got the heart of a hero, Captain. Truly. But don’t break your own back trying to carry the world. You think of this quest for the sake of humanity... but most of the ’adventurers’ in this hellscape aren’t slaying because they care about the villagers or the world. They slay for the mana distortion bounties and the monster parts, they fetch a high price in the capital. They’re butchers, not defenders. Their greed drives them, not heroism."
