Chapter 430: Chapter 304: There is a Difference Between Water and Shore

Marriage is exhausting, exhausting yet joyous.

Even though I took three days off for my wedding leave, those three days were like fighting a battle without a moment’s rest.

On May 2nd, I accompanied the Master’s wife and Xu Haoran back to Linghai to visit their hometown. On May 3rd, I went with my family to Si Gang, my hometown, for a banquet. And on May 4th, I saw the Master’s wife and Xu Haoran off...

Coming back to work after the leave, I was welcomed with the first joint training exercise between the Water Fire Rescue Team and the Binjiang Fire Department, to be precise, it should be called a joint drill.

After reviewing the training plan that Fang Guoya and Deng Qikang, the Main Commander of the Directly Affiliated Team of the Binjiang Fire Department, had put together, Han Yu couldn’t help but laugh.

"Boss Fang, aren’t you afraid your old comrades-in-arms will give you a hard time?"

"They were the ones who wanted to see us make a fool of ourselves first. Besides, if we don’t show them what we’ve got, they’ll really think our Water Fire Rescue Team does nothing but eat."

"That makes sense. What time are we heading out?"

"Right now."

"Alright, you go inform Zhang Ping and Xiao Gong, I’ll go get the life jackets."

There are three squads in the Water Fire Rescue Team, but only the Bailong Port squad is actually capable of operating on water. The firefighters from the Binjiang Port squad are all security guards from the Port Authority. They can handle fires on land, but not on water, they still need a period of training.

If Fang Guoya wanted to win against his old unit, he had to go back to Bailong Port to rally troops.

Considering that the opponents were bringing two squads, Han Yu felt he was a bit short on people, then thought for a moment and laughed, "Brother Chen, I’m short-handed here, so I can only ask for your help. Could you give Ma Jintao and Yang Yong a call and see if they’re not too busy? If they’re free, please invite them to join the drill."

Chen Zikun knew he wanted to give the Binjiang Fire Department a show of strength as well, and couldn’t help but laugh: "No problem, I’ll get in touch."

...

The joint training was arranged at the oil storage area of the oil company in Yingchuan Port.

There were three large oil storage tanks on the shore, as well as oil pipelines and oil unloading wharfs by the river.

The leaders in charge of fire safety at the oil company had arrived early and were organizing their enterprise fire brigade to get ready, as they would be participating later.

Han Yu had not invited Director Zhang, but Song Jiwei, the Branch Captain of the Binjiang Fire Department, not only got Director Zhang and Deputy Director Jiang, who is in charge of the Water Fire Rescue Team, to come, but even Vice Director Jing from the Binjiang City Bureau, who oversees firefighting!

"Director Song, it’s quite a high-profile event today."

"It’s rare for us to have a joint field exercise, so we definitely wanted you and Director Jing to come watch."

Song Jiwei looked at his watch, then smiled again: "I’ve also invited Director Peng; he should be arriving soon. This is an on-water and shoreline firefighting drill, he must come to see it."

Director Jing was well aware that Song Jiwei was not pleased with Changhang Bureau setting up a Water Firefighting Team and wanted to show the Changhang Bureau’s firefighting team who was really professional. Rubbing his chin, he smiled and asked, "Director Song, when does it start?"

"It starts promptly at ten. Director Zhang, how come your people haven’t arrived?"

"I’m not aware of the details. Old Jiang, give Salted Fish a call and find out what’s going on."

Deputy Director Jiang had seen the training plan and was almost certain that his subordinates wouldn’t be the ones embarrassed today. Looking towards the river and smiling, he said, "No need to call, they should be arriving soon."

Director Song subconsciously asked, "Director Jiang, are you saying Salted Fish and his team are coming by boat?"

"We’re different from you guys; we have both waterborne and land-based squads. The waterborne squad is coming by boat; the land-based squad should also be here shortly."

While they were talking, two white dots and two black dots appeared on the river.

The crowd looked up to see the white and black dots getting closer.

Director Tong was prepared and handed over two binoculars: "Leaders, those are the speedboats and assault boats temporarily requisitioned by our Water Firefighting Team. We didn’t have the budget to purchase the speedboats ourselves, so we borrowed them from the Port Supervision Bureau and the Water Police Station, but we’ll definitely get the assault boats."

Song Jiwei, holding the binoculars and adjusting the focus, looked for a while then appeared disappointed: "I thought Xiao Han would bring the fire rescue boat over."

"001 consumes too much fuel; it’s generally not deployed easily without an emergency."

Director Tong had barely finished speaking when the Binjiang Port squadron of the Changhang Bureau’s Water Firefighting Team arrived.

Two Jiefang trucks equipped with high-pressure fire water cannons slowly drove into the storage area, followed by a crane, and finally, a similarly aged Yellow River brand water tank truck.

The Binjiang Fire Department’s three fire engines, although also old, were professionally painted. They were red, with sirens on the roof, and even the wheel hubs were painted white.

In contrast, the "fire engines" of the Binjiang Port Main Fire Brigade seemed far less professional.

The leaders and the enterprise firefighters from the oil company couldn’t help but laugh, thinking that they finally had a peer.

Outsiders see the excitement; insiders see the skill.

Director Song walked over to the Binjiang Port Fire Department’s convoy, climbed up to the side of the truck to take a closer look at the installed firefighting equipment, and then looked at the truck crane, immediately jumped down and turned to ask, "Director Zhang, Director Jiang, how much did these two sets of equipment cost?"

"Over seventy thousand."

"You guys are doing well, even having a truck crane."

"How long can the crane’s arm extend, and how high can it lift?"

Zhang Junyan was well aware that they had applied to purchase an extendable ladder truck. In case of a high-rise fire, it could be used to rescue people trapped inside the building, or to use the ladder’s water cannon to extinguish the fire.

But firefighting vehicles are expensive - a single vehicle costs 2.5 million!

The superiors hadn’t given any funds, nor had the city allocated money, and even up to today, they were still using an old-style ladder truck from more than a decade ago, which could only reach the second floor.

Over the past few years, the buildings in the city have been built higher and higher. If a fire breaks out in a high-rise, with their current equipment it would definitely be impossible to extinguish it, and they would have to ask for help from fire brigades in brother cities.
