Chapter 28: Surprise Gift

Stella’s POV

After a period of five months,

My neck and shoulders are scorched by the last rays of summer light as I step outside onto the pavement after finishing my final class of the day. My third year of undergraduate studies is well started in the fall semester of my third year. As is customary for me, my phone calls just as I’m about to walk the short distance to the train station, prompting me to turn around. I take it out of the front pocket of my rucksack and discover a text message from Sebastian.

"Hey, there, sweetheart. How is the class?" The message says.

"Hello, sweetheart. As is normal in this situation. I’m currently walking to the train station. Are you experiencing difficulties at work? ’

"Yes. Please, could you pay me a visit at my place of residence?"

"Of course. Why?" I said.

If Sebastian had a legitimate reason for asking me, I would have told him. "I’m expecting a delivery," he said.

"It isn’t a problem," I clarify.

"Did you get your key to my place?’ he inquired.

I crack a grin. According to Sebastian, I’d be bringing this key to school every morning and bringing it back home every night. He’s been begging me to let him move in for months now since he got Alice to sell her apartment to him so he could have the peace and solitude he so desperately needs. With the exception of the cats. Alice is still my pet-sitting client on occasion. Due to the fact that she relocated three stories below him in the same building, I see Luna, Luca, and Tucker rather frequently. Although living here appeals to me for a multitude of practical as well as sinfully pleasurable reasons, the idea of moving in with my partner is a huge step forward in our relationship for me.

"I have it," I said

"Good. I’m on my way to an appointment. See you later, sweetheart,’ he said at the end of the conversation. I arrive at his house shortly afterward and leave a phone message for Carla and Apple, informing them that I will not be returning home this evening. When I get to Sebastian’s place, there’s more than just a toothbrush waiting for me. If he gets home before the item arrives, he won’t allow me to leave. I’m not sure I’d want to go through with it.

My Microbiology studies are about halfway completed when the concierge staff calls to inform me that a box has arrived at my residence in New York City. It has been reported that Sebastian specifically requested that the gift be delivered to his front door. It doesn’t disturb me at all, so I walk to the lobby to wait for the delivery man. I open the door when I hear a knock on the door a few minutes later. The delivery man carries a handheld signature gizmo with an attached stylus in one hand, as he approaches me.

"Good afternoon ma’am, please sign here."

"Hi. Sure," I say, taking the stylus and starting to sign, although he hasn’t given me anything yet. "Could you just confirm what it is I’m signed up for?"

He raises a blue plastic carrying case the size of a small piece of carry-on luggage off the floor. "Here you go, ma’am," the delivery man said.

"Oh. Great. Thanks," I answered the delivery guy.

After rushing out the door as quickly as he came in, the delivery man abandons me with this package at the front door. My assumption is that it has anything to do with business, so I carry it into the study with me. The weight of the case, on the other hand, varies from one side to the other. It then becomes quiet, and then there’s a little noise from within. And yet another noise.

That was unmistakably the sound of a cat.

When I bring the case into the living room and place it on the coffee table, I notice a small lock located directly beneath the handle. Apart from me wants to call Sebastian to check if he’s made a mistake and see if he can correct it. Despite the fact that Luna, Luca, and Tucker are devoted to him, even though he is not a cat person. It takes only a click of the clasp to unlock this small container, which from the inside looks similar to a pet carrier.

In fact, there’s even a cat on the inside! The most adorable gray and white Persian cat. I’ve ever seen it tucked away in the back of the carrier. Its hair is so long that I can’t see what it’s looking at through it at all.

"Hello, there, little fella!" I squeal and grin. "Would you like something to drink?" " 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

As I’m holding him in my lap, the cat scampers to the front of the carrier, meowing loudly. At that moment, there’s a commotion in the foyer, and Sebastian bursts through the doorway, wide-eyed and startled.

"Are you surprised?" he inquires as he takes up a position next to me.

"Did you acquire a cat for yourself?" I ask as I kiss him on the lips fast.

"Of course," he said.

The small cat tilts his head up and licks the palm of Sebastian’s hand as Sebastian rubs his fingers over his hairy head. "Wow, you have a lot of hair," Sebastian says. "And he isn’t right for me." He admits, "I got him for you."

"Aww, hun. I appreciate the offer, but I don’t have room in my house for a cute little kitty like him," I explain, directing my focus away from Sebastian and toward the cat, who is meowing.

"Don’t worry; we’ll take care of everything. There’s a lot of room here. For him...and for you, when you’re ready," Sebastian says.

"Does he have a name?" Sebastian asked.

"Umm... Sebby," I said to Sebastian.

"Sebby," Sebastian says, nodding his head.

"That’s a beautiful name for a Persian cat, Sebby." I return my focus to Sebastian. "Did you know they’re also referred to be as sweet and quiet cat?"

"Yeah, I remember that. In addition to like being indoors, this breed does not grow to be as enormous as other cats, and it has a great quantity of energy to burn." He reaches up with his hand and tucks a strand of my hair behind one of my ears with his other. "So... what’s the verdict? " he asks, reaching up with his hand. ", he explains.

When I suddenly find myself at a loss for words, I stutter, "Having a cat is a big responsibility, but you already know how much I appreciate them still thank you very much for your wonderful gift, hun, but..." I say.

"What? In fact, he likes you and wants to spend time with you, so go ahead and take good care of him. I know you love cats."

"Are you demanding that I relocate?" I asked.

"No," he says forcefully in response. As he kisses the part of my neck where he knows my core is hardwired, he says, "Sebby is welcome to stay here until you’re ready." In hushed tones, he adds, "Or when I’m weary of waiting."

"Really? " I groan, my face already dripping with desperation.

"Really. Don’t be surprised if one day I toss you over my shoulder and drag you and your possessions all the way to this location. Furthermore, you are on the verge of losing a roommate at any given moment."

As I look across at him, I’m bewildered. "What precisely does that imply?" I wonder.

"Take a crack at it," he says, his head cocked to one side.

Apple and Edward have been dating for a few months, and I had a feeling things were growing serious between them, but Sebastian’s comment about the timing is fascinating. "Wait, is he planning to propose to her?" I wonder.

"I didn’t say anything to you," Sebastian acknowledges with a nod. What are your thoughts on the matter for the time being? Are we going to keep Sebby?" I’m not sure I’ll be able to say no to this little sweetie after meeting him. I wrap my arms around Sebastian’s neck and pull him as near to me as I possibly can without pinching Sebby’s neck. "Yes. We going to keep him and he’s going to stay here in a long term. It’s the same as you."

A hard kiss on the lips is delivered by Sebastian as he takes a step back from me. "Way to go, sweetheart," he says as he squints at our new companion. "And, Sebby, don’t you think we’ll keep up the pressure to get her here?"

"Let’s get you positioned," he says as he takes Sebby in his arms and places him in the pet carrier, but he doesn’t look at me until he’s halfway across the room. "Let’s get you placed," he says. "You’ll be staying with us tonight," he says.

"Sure," I say in response.

"Sweetheart, that wasn’t even a question," he says.

"No? If I said no, what strategy did you have in mind to keep me here?" I asked.

Before walking out of the room, he flashes a big smile and raised his brows.

That expression is one I’m familiar with.
