Billionaire's Long Journey of Chasing His Love-Chapter 569 - 490: Women Really Love Gossip! (Seven Updates)
Before Jian Daimeng and Jimo Shanshan arrived, Danton gave his father a call to reassure him he was safe.
Emperor Haotian was thrilled to hear his son’s voice, but upon learning that Danton didn’t want to return home, his expression darkened.
Danton could tell his father was displeased, so he started acting like a child, teasing and pleading with him. Eventually, Emperor Haotian reluctantly agreed to let him stay a few extra days.
However, the emperor’s agreement came with immediate action—he sent someone that very night. His son’s poor health and the fact that it was his first time away from home made it impossible for him to be left unattended.
After finishing his call, Danton returned the phone to Long Che.
Long Che chuckled, "I thought you’d tell your father about being poisoned."
"If I did, both my father and my mother would worry themselves sick. I’ll wait until I’m back with them to bring it up," Danton’s fair face broke into a light smile. "Actually, I’m hoping—if I manage to recover—I won’t need to tell them at all."
"Let’s give it a shot." Long Che smiled and patted Danton’s shoulder. For reasons he couldn’t explain, Long Che found himself liking this young man. Uncle Che thought to himself, maybe this is just fate.
Jimo Shanshan and Jian Daimeng entered the room one after the other.
Once seated, Jimo Shanshan briefly explained the situation, and Jian Daimeng was left dumbfounded. She had never even heard of such a thing before.
Seeing Jian Daimeng on the verge of giving up, Long Che said with a grin, "Daimeng, you can treat everything Shanshan just said as reference material. Try to approach it from your own unique perspective."
Jian Daimeng looked at Danton. "I’ll need your blood—but I can’t guarantee I’ll figure it out."
Danton smiled and nodded, "Take as much as you need."
"It won’t be much," Jian Daimeng said before turning to Shanshan, "I’ll also need a sample of the antidote that can suppress the poison in his body for further study."
"I have the antidote right here." Danton pulled out a small box from his bag.
"All set, now all that’s left is your blood." Jian Daimeng quickly drew a test tube of blood and hurriedly prepared to leave. Tong Yao tried to persuade her to stay for dinner, but she declined, saying she needed to head home to focus on her research.
After bidding farewell to Jian Daimeng and Jimo Shanshan, Tong Yao called everyone to sit down for dinner.
Danton ate very little. Yi Luowa noticed how quickly he put down his utensils and asked with some concern, "You’re eating so little—won’t you get hungry later tonight?"
Danton responded with a smile, "I won’t. I had too much for lunch today."
Getting up, Danton bid everyone goodnight and left the dining room.
Worried he’d feel lonely by himself, Yi Luowa quickly polished off her plate and went out to keep him company.
Yan Zi watched the two leave and nudged Tong Yao with her elbow. "Sister-in-law, have you noticed how similar Danton and Luowa’s profiles are?"
Tong Yao smiled helplessly. "Princess Nancy looks exactly like Luowa. It’s not surprising that Danton and Luowa share some resemblance too."
The group started discussing their similarities and differences.
Meanwhile, in the hall, Danton was having the same conversation with Yi Luowa.
"You look so much like my sister. Why didn’t Prime Minister Long Che or Lady Biyao ever bring this up to my parents?"
Yi Luowa laughed, "Your sister is a princess, and I’m just a commoner. My parents wouldn’t dare mention it to your parents."
"I’m lucky I know my mother only gave birth to Sister Nancy; otherwise, I might have thought you two were twins."
"I’ve never dared entertain that idea," Yi Luowa replied, lightly pursing her lips. "You and your sister have lived together for a while now. Tell me—what differences do you see between us? My husband has pointed out a few; now I’m testing your observation skills."
Danton grinned and looked at Yi Luowa. "Aside from a slight difference in jawline, the biggest contrast is in your eyes—or more specifically, your expressions. Your gaze is full of vitality and sincerity...
Sister Nancy’s, on the other hand, feels a bit empty and carries a layer of something difficult to decipher. She rarely looks people directly in the eye like you do—it probably stems from your vastly different life experiences."
Yi Luowa nodded in agreement.
Danton smiled, "I’m really curious about your parents. Why do you look so much like Sister Nancy?"
Yi Luowa chuckled. She too wanted to know what her parents looked like. "They’re in Country S. You’ll have a chance to meet them one day."
Yi Luowa wasn’t sure why she said that. Perhaps deep down, she didn’t want others to pity her.
"Then my third destination in life will be Country S."
"You plan to leave again? Didn’t you already promise your father you’d return home?"
"I don’t want to go back. You haven’t seen what my life in the palace is like. If you did, you’d be urging me to go out traveling too." Danton smiled bitterly. "Every day, I can’t leave the palace. I sit in a wheelchair, read books, surf the internet... My only glimpse of the outside world comes through a screen."
Yi Luowa glanced with pity at his legs.
"I spent years bedridden. Although I had professionals to massage my muscles, I still experienced atrophy. It’s only recently that I don’t have to lie down all day anymore. At night, when everyone else is asleep, I secretly practice standing. Actually, I’ve been able to stand for over a month—I just didn’t tell them because I was preparing for moments like today."
"You’re so cheeky!" Yi Luowa glared at him.
Danton burst into laughter. "I wish you were my sister. I love chatting with you like this—so relaxed and natural."
"Huh? You don’t talk to your sister like this?"
"It feels formal. She’s uncomfortable, and I’m uncomfortable too."
"You’ve been apart for so long, and now that you’re suddenly living together, it’s only natural to feel awkward. Give it some time—it’ll get better."
"But I just met you yesterday... wait, technically today—and I feel no awkwardness at all."
Yi Luowa laughed. "Maybe it’s because I’m carefree, clueless, and love cracking jokes. If you still feel awkward with me, then you’re definitely overthinking things!"
Danton furrowed his brows slightly. "I’m not overthinking!"
Yi Luowa froze, "I didn’t say you were overthinking!"
Danton looked serious. "You clearly just said I was overthinking."
"If I called you out for overthinking, it was conditional!" Yi Luowa sighed and held her forehead. "Our conversation ends here!"
Danton suddenly burst into laughter. "I just wanted to see if you’d get mad at me—you actually will end a conversation!"
"Get mad? If you keep upsetting me, I might even hit you one day!"
"Hey!" Danton leaned in closer to Yi Luowa with a mischievous expression. "Back then, I saw Duke Ainuo holding Sangyu, and for a moment, I didn’t process it. I almost thought you two were family. Honestly, he doesn’t deserve you. The only man in this world who truly matches you is Duke Airui."
Yi Luowa shot him a sideways glance. "Do you know what you’re doing right now?"
Danton mimicked her gesture and asked, "What am I doing?"
"Slapping me and then handing me a candy—first you make me mad, and now you’re trying to cheer me up." Yi Luowa rested her chin in her hand as she gazed at him. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
Danton raised an eyebrow slightly. "I’m not cheering you up—I’m telling the truth. When Duke Airui was in Haotian to help out, I got daily reports about everything he did there. Of all the people I’ve ever encountered, he’s the only one I truly admire!"
"He didn’t stay in Haotian for very long."
"No, he didn’t. If he had stayed longer, maybe I’d have had a chance to meet him. Later, I searched online for every piece of information about him. I heard he got married, but there’s not a single mention of you online. That made me respect him even more—he’s the kind of man who knows how to protect his wife."
Yi Luowa laughed so hard her shoulders shook. "Some things need to be seen to be believed!"
"When will he return? I’ll wait for his return."
Yi Luowa pouted. "That’s hard to say."
"I’ll wait for him, anyway. I’m afraid I won’t get another chance later..."
Yi Luowa immediately got angry. "You little rascal—can you not talk like that ever again?"
Danton quickly clasped his hands together in a mock prayer. "Okay, okay, I won’t. Don’t be mad."
"Danton, do you really have an apartment at Qiulin Residence?"
"I do. I bought it after we parted ways," Danton replied with a smile. "I followed the driver who dropped me off and ended up there. It was only then that I learned you’re from the Duke’s residence. Since you look so much like my sister, my curiosity got the better of me and I bought a place as close to you as possible."
"What a wasteful decision!" Yi Luowa pursed her lips and smiled slightly, "I’ve got a question I’m curious about too."
"Ask away. I’ve already been exposed—there’s nothing left to hide."
"They say the Queen of Haotian is the most beautiful woman in the world, yet few people have seen her true face. As her son, you must have seen her—so is she really as beautiful as the legends say?"
Danton laughed immediately. "Women really are gossipy creatures!"
Yi Luowa shot him an annoyed look. "Want me to hit you?"
"Go ahead and try!" Danton burst into laughter. Truth be told, he wished more than anything that the person in front of him was his real sister.
