Chapter 534: Chapter 457: Are You Sure You Sent the Right One? (Second Update)

Yi Luowa pouted, "I’m not envious; I have a son, and sons are close to their moms."

"Haha... Rui’er, don’t get too ahead of yourself. Sangyu isn’t being affectionate with you; she’s treating you like you’re her dad." Yan Zi laughed as she handed Ziyan to Yi Luowa, "Come, hold him quick. This little one has been staring at you for ages now."

Yi Luowa laughed and held her son, "Auntie, Sangyu really isn’t thinking about Tong Airui?"

"Your mom said so. If you don’t believe it, go ask your mom."

Tong Yao chuckled, "I’ve been observing for days. If your dad doesn’t come home on time, Sangyu gets cranky. Lately, your dad’s been busy, and the two haven’t spent time together for days. Sangyu’s been bottling it up, and today it all burst out."

Tong Airui smiled helplessly, "So I’m just a stand-in."

Sangyu swung her little fists, laughing with a "giggling" sound.

"Mom, thanks for making me look so much like Dad; otherwise, even my daughter might reject me."

Tong Yao glanced at her son with a smile and said, "Nonsense! Sons and daughters are yours, and they’re always close to you. Tell me, where have you seen kids dislike their own parents?"

As she spoke, Tong Yao walked over to Yi Luowa. "Anjilu called me and sang your praises endlessly. As much as it made me happy, after the excitement faded, I felt more frightened and heartbroken."

"Mom, don’t be scared anymore. Look, I’m back safe and sound." Yi Luowa beamed at Tong Yao, "Compared to your younger days, what I’ve been through is nothing."

"Sigh..." Tong Yao smiled wryly, "Is Huo Li doing okay? I’ll go see her tomorrow."

"Professor Hong and Shanshan both said she’s fine, and I think she looks relatively well too. I wanted to stay with her, but Second Uncle scolded me, saying I didn’t consider you and always made you babysit."

"Tomorrow I’ll go talk to him. Babysitting is my way of staying active; I volunteered for it." Tong Yao affectionately patted her grandson’s little head and said, "I used to be so busy when I was younger. Suddenly having all this free time feels strange. Now all I do besides going on visits with your dad is watch them, and it’s perfect to fill the day."

"There are so many people in this family; it’s not like you’re getting overwhelmed, Mom. It’s more like we take turns holding them, or else how would it ever be our turn?" Yan Zi smiled at Tong Yao. "Tomorrow, I’ll go to the hospital with you. Let’s talk to Weiyang together; he overthinks everything."

Jing Ya also chimed in with a laugh, "Take me along tomorrow. I’ll go see Huo Li too. Weiyang becoming a dad at his age—it makes me so happy for him."

Yi Luowa pressed her lips together into a smile. Love was something this family had in abundance, and she felt so lucky to live in such a household.

As Yi Luowa was chatting with everyone, Ziyan tilted his head and burrowed into her chest. She glanced down at him, "Hungry?"

Ziyan clung tightly to her collar and let out a little whimper.

Tong Airui shot his son a glance, seeing him at it again. He called upstairs, "Sister Li, Ziyan is hungry."

Sister Li responded promptly, rushing downstairs with Sister Liu.

"Sangyu doesn’t seem hungry yet." Tong Airui hesitated, glancing at his daughter with reluctance.

"The two of them always eat together. Let Sister Li and Sister Liu carry them upstairs. After eating, they should both be ready to sleep." Tong Yao stood up and looked at her granddaughter, "She’s finally fully settled down now; she won’t cry anymore."

"Holding her for this long actually worked?" Tong Airui asked skeptically.

Tong Yao smiled, "These two kids take after Luowa—they’re easy to please."

As Ziyan and Sangyu were carried upstairs, You Jia supported Teng Ai Ni as she emerged from the large ground-floor bedroom.

Teng Ai Ni, clearly just waking up, slumped lethargically into the sofa upon entering the living room.

"Sister-in-law, I heard you’ve become quite the hero."

Yi Luowa laughed, "What hero? It was just the timing."

"Facing someone so terrifying, weren’t you scared?" Teng Ai Ni leaned her head against You Jia’s shoulder, feeling utterly uncomfortable after waking up. She wanted to throw up, but since her bile was emptied before sleeping, now there was nothing left to vomit, making it even worse.

"At the time, I was just focused on buying your brother enough time to save Huo Li. My mind was in overdrive, so I didn’t think about being scared." Yi Luowa looked at her with concern, "Why do you look so pale today?"

"I feel sick, like throwing up." Teng Ai Ni groaned, "Maybe I’ll go back home with You Jia tomorrow, save everyone the worry."

Tong Yao furrowed her brows slightly but didn’t say anything.

Jing Ya looked at her granddaughter with reluctance, "If you go, it’ll be so hard to see you again soon. Stay for a few more days."

"But You Jia is going back tomorrow..."

Yan Zi turned to You Jia, "You Jia, can’t you stay for a few more days?"

"Auntie, I’ve got things to deal with; I need to keep my promise and head back tomorrow."

"Let them go back. If we miss her, let’s visit her in Country S." Tong Yao headed into the kitchen, and soon the cook brought out a bowl of bird’s nest soup.

Teng Ai Ni pinched her nose and drank it down, while You Jia prepared a trash bin nearby.

"How long have you been practicing that?" Tong Airui laughed, "You look like a pro."

"Blehhh..."

Tong Yao, standing half inside the kitchen doorway, sighed helplessly as she saw her daughter vomiting again.

Yi Luowa’s heart ached seeing it, and she stepped forward to massage Ai Ni’s chest, while You Jia attended to her, fetching water and handing tissues continuously.

After quite some time, Teng Ai Ni finally caught her breath and felt slightly better. "My mom’s vomiting trick really works."

"When I was pregnant with the three of you, I did this a lot," Tong Yao sighed deeply. "Your sister-in-law and Shanshan weren’t nearly as bad as you during their pregnancies."

"Most of the time I’m okay, but today I’ve been unusually irritable." Teng Ai Ni pursed her lips, "Sister-in-law, you and my brother don’t know yet..."

Yi Luowa froze, "What’s wrong?"

"I had an ultrasound today," Teng Ai Ni murmured while leaning against Yi Luowa’s chest, "Sigh... it’s a boy."

Yi Luowa laughed, "That’s great news! Why are you so down about it?"

"My in-laws are thrilled, but You Jia and I wanted a girl. After finding out, I tried to seek some comfort from Grandpa and Dad, but guess what their reactions were?"

Yi Luowa blinked her eyelash-like lashes playfully and said, "Grandpa must have said: ’A boy? Fine—you take care of him yourself; I’m not involved.’"

Teng Ai Ni stared in shock at her sister-in-law, "And Dad—what did he say?"

Yi Luowa chuckled, "Dad said: ’I’m very busy—if there’s nothing urgent, hang up.’"

Teng Ai Ni’s jaw dropped. "You taught them to say that, didn’t you?"

"I guessed right?"

Teng Ai Ni nodded firmly. "Perfect impersonation—down to the last word!"

Yi Luowa stuck out her tongue, "Good thing I gave birth to Sangyu; otherwise, I’d be hearing it too."

"And that’s why everyone says you’ve got skill!"

You Jia, having finished playing upstairs with Mi Chenxuan, dashed downstairs. "Sixth Sis, who’s skillful at having kids?"

"Talking about you! Someday, you’ll surely have twins..."

"Buzz buzz..." Xiao Luozi’s phone rang.

Tong Airui took the call and stepped into the study, "What happened this time?"

Recently, Xiao Luozi had been sent to Haotian with orders to remain silent unless necessary. Since he was calling now, it didn’t seem like good news.

"Fourth Brother, we’ve all been tricked by Kai Di! Kai Di willingly entered Royal Prison after all... to have a baby! And now she’s given birth to a boy older than our Ziyan by four months!"

Tong Airui’s eyes narrowed dangerously. "Where’s the child now?"

"The Haotian Emperor is raising him in the palace. The Empress isn’t exactly happy about it; lately, she’s been planning to adopt a goddaughter."

Tong Airui paced back and forth in the study, "Who is this goddaughter she wants to adopt?"

"She’s the daughter of her former servant."

Tong Airui smirked, "A servant’s daughter?"

"Yes, the one she found at the northern border."

"Fourth Brother, this isn’t even the strangest part. I’ll send you the servant’s daughter’s photo shortly, and you’ll see."

Tong Airui hummed in response and ended the call.

He had just gained new insights into Kai Di’s manipulative nature. Despite having her shadowed for so long, the fact she managed to discreetly deliver a child left him astonished.

And what’s this about the Empress? First, she secretly sought out this servant, and now she plans to adopt the servant’s daughter?

His phone buzzed with a new message notification, pulling him out of his thoughts. He opened the file folder.

What the...?

Tong Airui stared at the photo Xiao Luozi had sent, frozen in place.

He examined the photos thrice before calling Xiao Luozi back. "Are you sure you didn’t send the wrong ones?"

"I knew you’d ask me that!"
