Chapter 328: Chapter 296: Reaching the Pinnacle (Part 2)

"Oh, so you do know you’re twenty-one? Listen to the nonsense you’re saying—does it sound like something a twenty-one-year-old should be saying?" You Jia glared at him. This kid just loved stirring up trouble; if you indulged him, he’d think he could conquer the world.

"I have a generational gap with you. Leave, I want to talk to my sister-in-law. We understand each other better." Lu Jia said, reaching out to pull You Jia.

You Jia swatted his hand away with an annoyed expression. "Everything about Shi Qing has been handled. Mom knows what kind of person she is now. Don’t bring it up again."

"It doesn’t matter if Mom knows what kind of person she is! A couple of tears from her, and Mom will soften right up."

"Stop talking about her! You’re no better. On the day of my engagement to my sister-in-law, look at Noah and Kerry—they were busy running around helping out. And you? Where were you?" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Lu Jia scratched his head, embarrassed. "It was your engagement to my sister-in-law, I was so happy I had a few extra drinks the night before..."

You Jia snorted at him. "A few extra drinks? You were dead drunk! You didn’t show up all day!"

Lu Jia turned to Ai Ni with a grin. "Sister-in-law, when’s your grandpa coming back?"

Ai Ni looked at him suspiciously. "Why are you looking for my grandpa?"

"My brother’s bullying me, so I’m gonna ask your grandpa to help me deal with him." Lu Jia flashed her a toothy grin.

Ai Ni squinted at him dangerously. "If you dare go to my grandpa, I’ll give you a beating myself!"

Lu Jia clutched his chest dramatically. "Sister-in-law, have you and I switched teams now?"

Ai Ni snorted at him. "I only team up with my husband. If anyone dares bully him, it’s like bullying me. Watch how I deal with them!"

Lu Jia glanced at his brother, who wore a blissful, dopey smile staring at his wife. With a swift turn, Lu Jia bolted for the door, shouting as he ran, "Dad, mission accomplished! Not only are my brother and sister-in-law not fighting, their relationship is even better now. Hurry up and give me that extra credit card you promised!"

Ai Ni and You Jia exchanged a glance. That rascal, all that just now—it was all an act!

Afraid Yi Luowa might have lingering concerns, Ai Ni gave her a call not long after Lu Jia left.

Yi Luowa was curled up on the sofa, half-asleep. She groggily picked up the phone. "Hello? Ai Ni, has that pest left?"

"Mm, but he almost drove me mad just now..." Ai Ni recounted the incident from earlier.

Yi Luowa bolted upright. "Ai Ni, you have to be extra careful from now on. If she ever goes to the palace and there’s nobody else around, don’t say anything or interact with her. And don’t let Dad or Grandpa find out about any of this, or You Jia’s going to be in trouble again."

"Got it, I won’t say a word to Grandpa or Dad." Ai Ni nodded in agreement.

Yi Luowa felt a bit dizzy. She rubbed her temples and quietly asked, "Where’s You Jia?"

"He’s handling work affairs."

"Since he’s not around, I can say this—find Shi Qing a husband as soon as possible. The farther away she marries, the better. Preferably not within S Country. The farther she is, the more peace of mind you’ll have. She’s definitely trouble—a ticking time bomb that could blow up your life any moment."

Ai Ni chuckled. "So is that why you were so eager to set me up with You Jia back then?"

Yi Luowa laughed out loud. "Oops, accidentally spilled the beans."

"Haha..." Ai Ni laughed heartily before saying, "Sister-in-law, I’m thinking of staying out a bit longer. Do you think Dad will scold me?"

"Don’t be afraid of a scolding. Make three courtesy calls a day. If he yells, just listen. Once he’s tired of yelling, you’ll finally get peace and quiet." Yi Luowa leaned against the sofa and glanced at the doorway. "I get it though—it feels like something’s missing when You Jia’s not around, right? Even though I can see your brother every day, when he doesn’t come home on time, I start to..."

"Is that for real?" Tong Airui’s laughter came from the doorway.

"My brother’s back?" Ai Ni asked with a smile.

"Yep." Yi Luowa replied, grinning toward the entrance. "He’s changing his shoes. Want to say hi?"

"Nah. I’m the most considerate person—I won’t interrupt your alone time. Bye-bye~"

Yi Luowa heard the call disconnect, set down her phone, and smiled at Tong Airui, who was walking in. "Aren’t you home a bit early today?"

"I knew you’d miss me, so I came back sooner." Tong Airui grinned, leaned down to kiss her cheek, then brushed his lips away and touched her forehead. "You feel a bit warm."

"No way, I feel fine." Yi Luowa stood up. "Second Uncle sent over some venison for you. I told them to prepare it, so we can have it for dinner."

Looking at the throw pillow on the sofa, Tong Airui frowned. "Were you napping on the couch just now?"

Yi Luowa nodded. "Only for a little while. Stop fussing."

Tong Airui tested her forehead again, pulled out his phone, and called Lao Dao.

Seeing him contact the doctor, Yi Luowa mouthed, "I’m really fine. Why call the doctor?"

"I want to see you in under five minutes!" Tong Airui commanded, ending the call. He looked at Yi Luowa’s flushed cheeks and shook his head helplessly. "Your temperature’s at least 38 degrees, and you’re still saying you’re fine!"

Yi Luowa pouted. "Fine, fine, I have a slight headache. I just wanted a quick nap—how was I supposed to know I’d fall asleep?"

"Not even a blanket to cover yourself!" Tong Airui scooped her up. "Take better care of yourself next time."

"Got it—first thing home and you’re already scolding me." Yi Luowa nestled into his arms with a pout. "Husband, if I ever argue with Mom, whose side will you take?"

Tong Airui paused. "Why are you suddenly asking this? Did Ai Ni argue with her mother-in-law?"

Oh, right—how could he forget, that’s another potential issue!

Yi Luowa quickly shook her head. "No way. Ai Ni’s mother-in-law treats her so well. They’d never argue. I just saw it on TV—how mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law are supposed to be rivals. I don’t believe that. Mom would never see me as her enemy. But, you know, in life, there’ll always be the occasional clash. If one day I do argue with Mom, what will you do?"

Tong Airui raised an eyebrow slightly. "I’ll sit right there and watch you two spar."

Yi Luowa punched him angrily. "Say something serious!"

Tong Airui laughed. "Something serious? That day will never come. You and Mom are too compatible to ever argue."

Yi Luowa reached up to stroke his jaw. "So confident?"

"Of course. My wife is so understanding. Even if Mom were wrong, you’d forgive her. Besides, Mom would never make such a mistake in the first place." Tong Airui placed her gently on the bed, tucked her in, and pulled out a thermometer to place under her arm.

Tong Airui checked his watch. "If he’s not here in five minutes, I’m breaking both his legs!"

"If I arrive in five minutes, is there a reward?" came Lao Dao’s teasing voice from the doorway.

Tong Airui and Yi Luowa both turned toward the door. Just as Tong Airui was about to speak, he noticed the person standing behind Lao Dao, and his face immediately fell.

"I called for you. Why’d you bring that thing with you? Are you blind? You can’t find your way here without it?"

Yi Luowa twitched at the corner of her mouth. His sharp tongue truly knew no bounds.
