Beyond the Bloodline-Chapter 309: Summoning Showdown
Undeterred, Glox conjured thick vines from the ground to intercept the blood tendrils, then swept his hand forward, releasing beams of darkness law energy that crushed the incoming light bursts.
Although Glox had sealed the wound the tiger had been drawing blood from, it made little difference in the grand scheme of things—the beast could simply slash its forearm and draw more.
And that’s exactly what it did.
It wrapped its body in a violent storm of bloody wind before lunging at Glox, closing the distance in an instant and slashing at him with its glowing red claws.
Glox made no move to dodge. He simply waited until the energy within the tiger’s forearm had surged to the limit before snapping his fingers and activating ’Unhealing’.
The wounds from his earlier beam attacks abruptly reopened, splitting further as pain jolted through the tiger’s body.
It faltered mid-swipe, its attack losing precision, creating an opening that Glox seized.
He flew around the tiger and swiped his claws downward, sending arcs of corrosive darkness slicing through the air.
The tiger managed to twist its body mid-air with unnatural agility, evading the attack, but the moment it landed on the ground, roots erupted beneath it, surging toward its legs in an attempt to entangle it.
Seeing this, Orikar Jr. immediately cast offensive buffs, causing the tiger’s claws to extend and glow crimson. With a single swipe, it tore through the roots before they could fully ensnare it.
Without hesitation, Orikar Jr. layered additional speed buffs, propelling the tiger forward like a crimson streak aimed straight at Glox.
Glox conjured a magic circle on the back of his palm, causing trees to erupt from the ground, growing tall and spreading out into wooden shields.
A second magic circle formed over his hand, and the branches twisted and writhed, morphing into carnivorous plants with gaping, hungry maws.
As the tiger’s claws struck the tree shields, the carnivorous plants latched onto its body, snapping their venomous jaws shut. However, Orikar Jr. swiftly applied a defensive buff, fortifying the tiger’s body to the point where the plants’ fangs couldn’t pierce its fur.
Not minding this, Glox gathered negative life energy into a swirling sphere between his palms. Sensing the build-up of power behind the wooden barrier, the tiger let out a thunderous roar, summoning bloody winds around its body.
The winds spiralled upward, forming a raging cyclone and more of its blood drained out its wounds, coalescing into a massive spear infused with both blood and light laws.
Orikar Jr. pointed forward, activating a buff as he commanded.
"Pierce through him."
The tiger roared and hurled the spear forward. It tore through every wooden barrier Glox conjured in its path, surging toward him like a crimson comet.
Seeing this, Jamie snapped his fingers and space distorted. The spear veered off course, disappearing into the distance.
This nullified the need for Glox to dodge and allowed him to unleash his counterattack without delay.
The sphere of negative life energy in his palms expanded into a concentrated beam, tearing through the battlefield.
Orikar Jr. reacted instantly, casting defensive buffs on the tiger which wasn’t quick enough to evade the hypersonic speed attack.
A barrier of red light enveloped the tiger a second before the beam hit, but the force of the beam sent it skidding back, claws digging into the ground.
The barrier cracked under the pressure, and behind it, the tiger growled. It slammed its forelimb against the earth and sent magic power surging underground.
A second later, pillars of red light erupted from the ground beneath Glox’s, forcing him to fly to the side to dodge. At the same time, the tiger swung its claws, unleashing razor-sharp crescents of wind that sliced through the air towards Glox.
Glox summoned walls of darkness to block the attack, but the wind blades sliced through some, managing to graze his arm.
His life energy instantly surged, expelling the tiger’s blood in his wound mere seconds before it exploded.
Orikar Jr. frowned upon seeing Glox’s quick reaction, while Jamie nodded with approval.
Had Glox fallen for such a basic blood magic trick, Jamie might have terminated his summoning right then and there.
Oblivious to how close he had come to being terminated, Glox charged at the tiger, forming vines into a long whip which he swung with full force.
The tiger retaliated, summoning bloody winds to shred the vines into pieces, but Glox had already anticipated this.
The moment the vines were torn apart, each fragment hardened, transforming into deadly wooden spears that shot toward the tiger from multiple angles, forcing it to leap aside to evade.
But right in its path was Glox, already airborne above its head. He drove his fist forward, landing a crushing blow against the tiger’s side and sending it hurtling through the air.
Glox chased after it, about to land another strike, but it used wind magic to regain its balance mid-air and meet Glox’s strike head-on.
The two began clashing repeatedly, their attacks colliding with explosive force as they darted around the battlefield. The ground cracked beneath their every move, and their powerful law energies distorted the air with each exchange.
The White Tiger roared and drew blood from the wounds Glox caused it, conjuring a spiked blood sphere twice Glox’s height and launching it right at him.
Glox dodged it without a second thought, not even sparing a glance at Jamie, who was on the ground behind him. Even though Jamie’s elimination would also mean his own, Glox charged straight at the tiger, prioritizing his attack over defence.
As for Jamie, he made no effort to avoid the attack.
He simply let the Blood Magic strike him, allowing it to explode on impact and deal 0 damage.
After all, it was kind of impossible for a Vampire-Werewolf Hybrid like him to be harmed by such a weak Blood Magic attack.
Jamie took control of the blood that splattered from the impact before it could fall to the ground, using it to form a magic circle in the air.
The moment Orikar Jr. saw the Magic Circle form, he reached out, swirling summoning law energy around his hand and activating a Summoning Interference Technique—one designed to disrupt another summoner’s process, causing the summoning to fail and delivering Spell Backlash in return.
But his attempt at interference failed as Jamie’s Authority of Summoning which was currently active invalidated it instantly.
Noticing his attempt, Jamie glanced at him, and then suddenly burst into laughter.
"Dude, that was obviously not going to work."
He infused even more magic power into the summoning circle, still laughing as he spoke.
"Don’t worry, I’m not too harsh, so I’m not going to call Astragrim for you. If I did that, the fight would be over way too quickly, and I wouldn’t get to have my fun.
So instead, I’ll call this guy."
More magic power surged from the magic circle with each word, and Orikar Jr. quickly crafted his own summoning circle, preparing to summon a counter against Jamie’s second summon.
His circle activated faster than Jamie’s and from it, a giant metallic golem emerged. It was shaped like a knight, clad in armour, wielding a massive one-handed sword and a shield.
At the sight of the seven-metre-tall golem, Jamie raised an eyebrow.
"Oh."
Instantly, the symbols on his magic circle changed as he changed his target summon mid-process.
Both Orikar Jr. and the Planet Lord instantly noticed the advanced technique Jamie had just used and their eyes widened in shock.
Meanwhile, the one responsible for stunning them simply spoke.
"Hey, big guy, come on out."
And sure enough, a big guy came out.
A muscular five-meter-tall blue-skinned troll emerged from the summoning circle at his words. He had curved horns on his head and large fangs peeking out even with his mouth closed.
He was bare-chested, his only clothing being a pair of simple trousers, and strapped on his back, was a giant great sword.
As soon as he emerged, the troll blinked and glanced around in confusion before his gaze landed on Jamie.
Then, with a voice full of incredulity, he asked.
[Dude, you’re still alive?]
"Of course, I’m still alive! I’m immortal. Did you forget?"
Jamie responded in a similarly incredulous manner, and the troll shot back immediately.
[Did you forget that I come from a planet with millions of so-called immortals who still ended up dead?]
"Well, a lot of people call themselves immortal but aren’t actually immortal. That’s nothing new."
The troll considered that for a moment before nodding.
[Yeah, good point.]
And just as he said that, he reached for the great sword strapped to his back, unsheathing it. With a single powerful swing, he intercepted Orikar Jr.’s armoured golem’s charging attack, blocking its massive blade effortlessly.
Then, without even sparing the golem a glance, he turned back to Jamie and asked.
[So, I assume you summoned me to beat up this hunk of metal because, for some reason, you don’t want to do it yourself?]
Jamie nodded in response.
"I’m in a summoner’s tournament. My summon is supposed to do the work, not me."
Even as he spoke, the troll continued effortlessly deflecting the golem’s heavy slashes, countering with his own strikes.
Still not looking at his opponent, he let out a deep sigh.
[So, let me get this straight. You entered a summoner’s tournament for a reason I do not understand—and don’t even want to understand—and called me here, limiting my power to Transcendence?]
Jamie nodded once more.
"Yep, that’s about it."
Seeing Jamie’s proud smile, the troll rolled his eyes and muttered, [Why did I ever agree to contract with a crazy bastard like this?]
