Chapter 177: Attack in the City

When Jamie was tying the rope belt of Miranda’s dress, he voiced a compliment and an aged couple hearing him as they passed by turned to glance in the direction of the two.

The old man laughed lightly when he heard Jamie, remembering his younger years as he spoke to his wife.

"Aha, this youngster is smooth. Reminds me of the old days."

"What a nice-looking couple..."

The words that the old married couple muttered to themselves naturally reached Miranda’s ears and she glanced in their direction, an expression of puzzlement on her face.

’Why does everyone keep mistaking us for a couple?’

She then turned towards Jamie, remembering Tiris’ question earlier, and then her friend’s question later and now this old couple.

"Mira, I think heels go well with this one."

"...?"

Jamie’s words snapped her out of her thoughts and seeing the shoes he held up, her expression contorted and she spoke.

"I don’t like those heels...

I won’t take this dress then."

With those words, she turned around and re-entered the changing room to take off the dress, without waiting for Jamie to make an alternative suggestion.

It didn’t take long for her to emerge with the next outfit, and soon they almost put on a free fashion show for the other store patrons when Tiris and friends returned from the section of the shop they were in and announced that it was time to go.

Having gotten her dresses, Jodi wanted them to head to their next destination so Jamie and Miranda put an end to their impromptu fashion show, with Miranda simply leaving the store with the new clothes she had on.

◇ ◇ ◇

As they headed toward another building, crossing the road, Jamie engaged in light-hearted conversation with Tiris’ friends.

His charm and easy manner drew smiles and laughter from the group, while Miranda, walking slightly behind, watched his interaction with a strange expression on her face.

However, a sudden, sharp sensation pricked at her awareness.

Her perception of time slowed, and her head snapped to the right, locking gazes with the driver of a car parked at the stop sign, directly in front of the zebra crossing.

In that frozen moment, she thrust out her right hand as flames erupted from the sides of the car, on the brink of a catastrophic explosion. Channelling her magic power, she forced the flames back to their source, containing the imminent blast.

Then, with a powerful kick, she sent the car hurtling backwards over 50 meters, crashing into one of the fire hydrants lining the road.

Her perception of time returned to normal, and she glanced at Jamie, who nodded in understanding.

He swiftly grabbed Tiris and Jodi by their arms, while Miranda secured the other two young women, right before Jamie warped them all to the top of a nearby building.

Just as they were about to teleport again, three pressurized bullets of poisonous energy tore through the air at supersonic speed, aimed at their group. Two targeted Jamie and Miranda, while the third was directed at Tiris.

Jamie reacted instantly, using his spatial expansion to slow the bullets and Miranda followed up, conjuring her purple flames to incinerate the projectiles in an instant.

"Fight?"

Jamie asked, his voice calm and composed, as she expanded his spatial perception to detect their hidden attackers.

"Fight. Better kill them off here than run and have them bug us later."

Miranda confirmed and after this brief exchange, Jamie transitioned seamlessly into combat mode.

His eyes glowed with light and his gaze snapped in the direction of a tower under construction to his northeast, letting go of Jodi whom he held as he began condensing energy in his hand.

Concentrating his energy into the space between their fingers, Jamie formed a dense, dark sphere that seemed to absorb light and emanate an aura of emptiness. It made everyone present to take a step back, but Jamie ignored their instinctive reaction to his power and released his strike.

[Void Sphere.]

With a flick of his fingers, he sent the sphere of void energy hurtling through the air at hypersonic speed. The sphere tore through the fabric of space, leaving a ripple in its wake, and reached its target with unerring precision.

Upon impact, it exploded silently in a burst of deep blue light.

As the light faded, the top five floors of the tower had been erased from existence, leaving only a clean, sheared-off structure behind.

"The snipers are taken care of."

Jamie spoke as he turned around and grabbed Jodi, before leaping off to the next building top with Miranda trailing behind.

As for Tiris, the young woman was shocked at Jamie’s decisiveness in choosing to obliterate such a huge chunk of the tower, not caring if there were any unrelated people there or not.

Well, there weren’t but she didn’t know this.

’What’s more...that deep blue energy...it’s different from his usual spatial power.’

Indeed, it was.

After all, what Jamie had just used was not ’Spatial Manipulation’, but ’Void Manipulation’, something completely different.

That sphere drew power from the essence of the void, an absence of existence that can erase anything it touches.

Unlike the Jamie of the Year 2018 who was more reserved, the younger Jamie had zero restraint when it came to using Void Manipulation.

Only the Universe knew how many souls Jamie deleted from existence before the Main Entities had to beg him to stop or he’d destabilize the Reincarnation Path.

That was a story for another time, however, as right now, Jamie and Miranda were surrounded by dozens of masked assailants dressed in uniform.

One of them seemed to want to speak, but having seen Jamie delete his companions from existence, the man’s words hung in his throat.

And Miranda wasn’t just gonna stand there and let him keep gaping.

She held up her hands and conjured a bow of purple flames, before launching hypersonic speed arrows that blasted five of them to bits in an instant.

This snapped the other back to their senses and they began scrambling to evade.

One dodged Mirada’s arrow, but a portal suddenly appeared beside him pulling him in and instantly transporting him back into the path of the arrow he just avoided. He didn’t even have a second to think as the projectile collided with his body and blasted him into a shower of burnt flesh.

"This...!"

"Purple Flames? Silver hair...damn, it’s the Violet Inferno!"

"They’re Orichalcum Mercs!"

The assailants screamed out as they figured out the identities of the guards protecting their targets, however, Jamie’s reaction to their words was strange.

"The fuck is wrong with you?!"

The man questioned the attackers with an annoyed tone, before he kicked away the guy in front of him, and teleported to Miranda’s side to grab Tiris’ friends.

Right after, he teleported away, carrying the four young women with him and taking a distance of over 500 metres from Miranda.

"Sir Jamie?!"

When Tiris questioned why he took them away and left Miranda in the middle of the attackers, Jamie held up his finger to shush her and then pointed forward.

Prompted by this, Tiris turned towards Miranda just in time to hear the woman scream.

"DON’T CALL ME THAT NAME!!!!"

**BOOOMMM!!!!
