Chapter 74: Sawyer Jones’ Identity

That afternoon, Abigail sat on the deck behind the cabin, enjoying her tea with Sawyer.

However, a few minutes later, Sawyer suddenly excused himself to make a call.

Abigail tried to enjoy the scenery, but her attention was drawn to Sawyer, standing not far from the cabin, still talking over the phone.

Though she couldn’t hear what he was saying or see his expression since she could only see his back, she noticed him running his hand through his hair a few times. This led Abigail to speculate that he was talking to someone he didn’t really like.

"Did something happen at his company?" Abigail wondered anxiously. "Or is it something related to his family?"

Minutes passed as she waited for him to finish his call, but he remained absorbed in the conversation. Abigail took out her cell phone and opened the news online to distract herself from worrying about him.

Abigail was stunned as she read the latest news on the internet. After reading a few articles, she tucked her cell phone into her coat and glanced at Sawyer.

To her surprise, he had finished and was now walking toward her. She noted his expression, which caught her off guard—he looked calm.

’Is he part of the Jones family mentioned in the news? Why does he seem so composed despite everything that’s happened? The old Jones was hospitalized,’ Abigail wondered.

Sawyer smiled as he sat in the chair beside her, his eyes narrowing as he tried to read her thoughts.

"Why are you looking at me like that, Abby?" he asked.

Abigail said nothing, instead directing her gaze toward the river in the distance.

"Are you jealous of the person I talked to on the phone?" Sawyer’s abrupt words caused Abigail to turn her attention back to him.

She was rendered speechless. Why would she feel jealous?

"Oh, please, Mr. Jones. Why would I be jealous? I don’t even know who you talked with." She shook her head, amused by his comment.

"I’m sorry, Abby. I thought you were jealous, which is why you gave me that sharp, curious look earlier." Sawyer stifled a laugh as he noticed her flushed cheeks.

Abigail was about to respond, but Sawyer’s next words left her momentarily speechless.

"But if you do feel jealous, that’s okay. I’m glad to know you care about me."

He flashed his best smile at her, but when he saw her expression remain unchanged, Sawyer stopped teasing.

"Did something happen to your Grandpa? I read the news; he was hospitalized," Abigail finally asked, realizing he had stopped joking around and trying to cheer her up.

Earlier, she had read an article stating that Nathaniel Jones had been rushed to the hospital. She believed Sawyer was from the old-money Jones family, and Nathaniel Jones was his grandfather.

Sawyer was taken aback by her question.

’Huh!? She knows about my family?’ he wondered but quickly dismissed the thought. Abigail must just be guessing, right? ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

"Sawyer, you are part of the Jones family from J Group, right?" Abigail asked again, noticing his silence. He always seemed to avoid discussing his family whenever she brought it up.

When Abigail thought Sawyer would dodge her question again, he asked, "How do you know about that?"

"I’m only guessing..." She smiled.

Sawyer chuckled to himself. He had already suspected as much. However, since she had brought it up, he felt there was no reason to hide it any longer. This girl would eventually be part of his family, so it was better to tell her now rather than let her find out from someone else.

"I am indeed related to the Jones family, as you guessed," Sawyer said with a faint smile before adding, "But I’m not connected to J Group."

Abigail looked slightly confused by his words.

"So, you are part of the third generation of the Jones family? The younger son?" she asked to clarify. How could he not be part of J Group? Perhaps Nathaniel Jones was only his uncle or a distant relative.

Sawyer was impressed by her guess. How did she know? Has someone told her? He believed his identity was well-protected.

Instead of addressing her curiosity, Sawyer countered, "How much do you know about the main branch of the Jones family?"

Abigail was a little confused when she heard his question. After a few more seconds passed in silence, a faint smile appeared on her lips as she realized that Sawyer still didn’t want to be honest with her.

"Sawyer, I’m sorry if my question is too personal. You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to. It’s fine."

"Abby, you misunderstood my question," Sawyer replied, panicking slightly, looking at her somewhat upset. He quickly explained, "I just want to know how much you know about the Jones family so I can start from there."

Seeing the sincerity in his gaze, Abigail felt guilty for misjudging his words.

"I don’t know much about the whole family," she admitted. "But from what I read in a business magazine in the past, Walter Jones is your father, right?"

Sawyer smiled but didn’t say anything; he urged her to continue.

"He has three children, but so far, only the first son, Harvey Jones, the CEO of J Group, appears in public. The other two children remain hidden. So, I guess you’re one of Mr. Walter’s sons, right?"

"Why do you think that?" Sawyer asked.

"Because you have features similar to Mr. Walter Jones and, of course, because of your last name. So, am I right or not?" She narrowed her eyes, impatiently waiting for his response.

Sawyer chuckled, realizing how accurate Abby’s observation was.

It would be difficult to hide his identity if someone recognized his last name and met him in person, especially since he resembled his father so closely—something his older brother, Harvey, envied the most.

"You’re right, Abby. I’m the youngest son of Walter Jones; he’s my dad. However, just so you know, I’m not involved in any business with J Group," Sawyer explained.

While Abby had already suspected that Sawyer was Walter Jones’ son, hearing it directly from him still shocked her.
