Belated Moonlight: He Regretted Only After I Left-Chapter 154: DNA Paternity Test!
Stella returned to the law firm to find Elara already waiting in the reception room.
Seeing Stella, she immediately stood up, "Stella, itโs been a long time."
"Itโs been a long time..." ๐ป๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ธโฏ๐ท๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ฃโฏ๐.๐ค๐๐ฎ
Stella sat opposite her with a complex expression, placing the preliminary information Finn had organized on the table, "Iโve initially looked into your case."
Elara folded her hands on her knees, her nails trimmed round and painted in nude, but upon closer inspection, her knuckles appeared slightly stiff.
"Yes, Iโm truly at a loss..." Her eyes slightly reddened, and her voice softened, "The Capet Family situation is very complicated. Iโm abroad without any kin, so I could only come back to seek your help. Stella, for old timesโ sake..."
Stella didnโt follow up on this, just flipped through the documents, "Based on the limited information you provided, this divorce case involves cross-national asset division, especially with the equity of that tech company, which is indeed quite complex. However, our law firm currently is saturated with cross-national cases, Iโm afraid..."
"The attorney fees are not an issue!" Elara interrupted eagerly, leaning forward, "I can pay in advance..."
"Itโs not about the money."
Stella closed the folder, raised her eyes, and her gaze landed clearly on Elaraโs face, "Actually in Europe, there are quite a few excellent lawyers who specialize in handling noble divorce cases, their experience could be richer than mine. Personally, I suggest you consult a few more firms."
Elaraโs face lost some color, her folded fingers tightened, nails dug into her palm.
"Youโre... unwilling to help me?" She spoke with a tremor, carrying a slight yet perceptible sharpness.
"I just objectively assessed and gave you the advice that would be most beneficial for you."
Stella stood up, "Sorry, this case Serene Law Firm cannot take on, if there are other suitable law firms later, I can have my assistant recommend them to you."
"Fine!"
Elaraโs face changed instantly, abruptly rising and heading towards the door.
Stella stood up to see her off, watching as she sat in the car at the door and left, the feeling in her heart hard to describe.
She took a deep breath of cold air, turned around, and walked straight to the black Maybach parked by the side of the road.
Opening the car door, she handed over the file bag in her hand.
"Brother, here is the information you wanted."
Aidan intuitively took it, pausing his hands momentarily as he pulled out the papers inside.
Atop sat a copy of an injury report, shocking photos of bruises and words like "multiple soft tissue contusions," "old injuries," pierced his eyes.
Stella pursed her lips, "Her husband, Capet, has sexual dysfunction and long-term domestic violence issues. Now the Capet Family is on the brink of bankruptcy, and he himself has been diagnosed with a serious illness, with little time left. He plans to let his equally violent brother โtake careโ of Elara, under the guise of taking care of his sister-in-law, when really itโs because he canโt bear to lose The Forrest Family, their cash cow..."
She paused and looked at Aidanโs stern profile, "I didnโt take her case. Brother, five years is long enough for a person to completely change. I feel she now... doesnโt have pure intentions. Her timing in coming back to find me might not be just a coincidence. You... shouldnโt get involved with her any longer."
Aidanโs jawline was taut, it took several seconds before a deep voice rolled out from his throat, "I know, no need to say more."
He paused, his gaze fell ahead, "Alright, you can head back, Iโm leaving."
Seeing his clear stance, Stella felt somewhat relieved, nodded, and closed the car door.
The Maybach smoothly merged into traffic.
Aidan drove expressionless until he stopped at a red light, only then raising his hand to rub his brow.
His gaze inadvertently swept over the file on the passenger seat, seemingly something tucked inside, revealing a small corner.
He frowned slightly, reached out, and pulled it out.
It was a note, folded, with only a line of delicate handwritingโTomorrow afternoon at three, Grand Hyatt Hotel 1808.
Signed, with just one wordโ
Ci.
Aidanโs pupils contracted almost imperceptibly, his fingertips pinching the thin piece of paper with such force he nearly tore it.
The green light came on, the honking from behind pressed on, expressionlessly he crumbled the note into a ball, shoved it into his coat pocket, and stomped down the accelerator.
...
After sending off Aidan, Stella turned around only to have a strong arm encircle her waist.
Shane, unknown when he had gotten out from another car, stood behind her, bowing to nuzzle her hair, "Finished talking?"
"Yes."
"Back to the old estate for dinner tonight," he said naturally, "Old Mr. Donovan is discharged, he was asking for you."
Thinking of the old man who always cheerfully gave her nice things, Stella felt a warmth in her heart and nodded, "Alright."
By the time Shane and Stella returned to the Donovan Family old estate, it was already evening.
Even before entering the living room, there was a sound of hysterical crying, excessive enough to make one feel numbโ
"Grandfather, Jasper and I truly love each other, please, bless us!"
Stella hadnโt heard this voice in a long time, so much so that it took several seconds to react and recognize that it belonged to Grace.
She couldnโt help but look up at Shane, her eyes asking what kind of drama this was.
Amused by her slightly bewildered expression, Shane affectionately tapped her nose, his eyes carrying a playful gleam as if watching a show, "Come, letโs go inside to watch the show."
The atmosphere inside the living room was tense.
Old Mr. Donovan sat grimly in the main seat, rotating walnuts in his hand, saying nothing.
Jasper stood beside him, face ashen, lips pressed thin, his aura exuding coldness strong enough to warn others not to approach.
Upon seeing Stella and Shane walk in hand in hand, his gaze immediately fixed on Stella, emotions swirling inside so complex they were frightening.
Old Mrs. Donovan sat next to Old Mr. Donovan, her face also dark, and seeing Shane come in, a flash of undisguised malice and resentment swept through her eyes.
In the corner of the sofa, Beatrice shrunk her neck, trying hard to lessen her presence.
Next to her, Rhys was still that flamboyant golden retriever, dressed in ripped jeans, sprawled across the sofa playing on his phone, as if everything around him had nothing to do with him.
Only when Stella entered did he lift an eyelid, his gaze lingered on their held hands for a moment before expressionlessly lowering his head, swiping the screen faster.
Old Mr. Donovan seemed to ignore the two who had just entered, only coldly looking at Grace kneeling on the ground, "Calling me grandfather, our Donovan Familyโs door isnโt that easy to enter, get up and stand aside."
Graceโs crying hitched, pitifully looking towards Old Mrs. Donovan.
Old Mrs. Donovan immediately chimed in, "Old man, sheโs been found, can blood ties be fake? You should acknowledge her! Or else, what would people outside think of us Donovan Family? Say we donโt even recognize our own flesh and blood?"
"Flesh and blood?" Old Mr. Donovan coldly huffed, his murky yet sharp eyes turned to Grace, "Whether sheโs the Donovan Familyโs flesh and blood isnโt for you to decide, nor for her to decide."
He paused, voice firm and decisive, "Do a DNA paternity test! Before the result comes out, nothing will be talked about!"
Grace nodded repeatedly, as if grasping a lifeline, "Iโll do it! Grandfather, I can do it now! As long as youโre willing to acknowledge me, Iโll do anything!"
