Being Dumped by My EX, I Marriied His Older Brother-Chapter 29: You Have Another Man?
Nina Thorne looked at Cole Kane and laughed, mocking him for being an idiot.
’How could she possibly have the power to make Serena Kane transfer schools and move abroad?’
For the past three years, Cole Kane had blamed her for it, resenting her deeply.
She had tried to explain, but Cole Kane wouldn’t believe her.
"Why are you asking me? Ask her." Nina Thorne shot Serena Kane a cold glance.
All eyes turned to Serena Kane.
Serena Kane’s heart fluttered with panic for a second when she met Cole Kane’s eyes.
She quickly lowered her gaze and said softly, "Cole, I went abroad of my own free will. It had nothing to do with Nina Thorne. Don’t blame her."
It sounded like she was defending Nina Thorne, but it actually made it seem like Nina Thorne was involved.
"Serena, you’re just too kind," Corinne Kerr said, indignant on her behalf. "You went abroad back then precisely because of Nina Thorne. She couldn’t stand your presence and forced you to leave."
Corinne Kerr’s words caused Cole Kane, who had just started to waver, to scowl again.
’He knew it. Nina Thorne was a compulsive liar.’
Serena Kane secretly observed his expression, a trace of triumph flashing in her eyes.
She then feigned annoyance as she chided Corinne Kerr, "Stop talking. This really has nothing to do with Nina Thorne, and besides, it’s all in the past."
The more she said this, the more certain Cole Kane was that Nina Thorne was involved.
It was a classic case of protesting too much.
A perfect example of it.
Macy Lynch couldn’t stand it for another second. "What do you mean, ’it’s all in the past’? Why don’t you make it clear? What was the real reason you went abroad?"
"Stop repeating that it had nothing to do with Nina Thorne and that it was your decision. Who are you putting on this pitiful act for? Don’t act like Nina Thorne is forcing you to say these things."
Macy Lynch was relentless. "Today, in front of everyone, tell us the truth. Why did you really go abroad back then? Was it because of Nina Thorne?"
Everyone knew Macy Lynch and Nina Thorne were close.
For four years of university, Macy Lynch was like a little bodyguard. If anyone said a single bad word about Nina Thorne, she’d either start a fight or curse them out.
Tolerate it?
Not in her nature.
Serena Kane looked startled and shrank back. "Macy Lynch, what have I ever done to offend you? Why are you making such malicious assumptions about me?"
"I’ve already said that I didn’t go abroad because of Nina Thorne. Do you want me to get on my knees and beg before you’ll drop it?"
Serena Kane had a delicate and endearing appearance, and with her eyes welling up, she looked utterly pitiful and wronged.
This was the exact look that always convinced Cole Kane she was being terribly wronged by Nina Thorne.
"Macy Lynch, that’s enough!" Cole Kane snapped.
Corinne Kerr hurled an insult at Macy Lynch. "Macy Lynch, are you Nina Thorne’s lapdog? You hit me last time, and now you’re here making trouble for Serena."
"Don’t think you can bully people just because you’re a somewhat famous model now."
This was Serena Kane’s talent. With just a few words, she could completely absolve herself of all blame and make herself look innocent and pitiful.
Macy Lynch brandished her fist at Corinne Kerr. "You old bootlicker. It hasn’t even been that long. If you’re itching for another beating, I’m happy to oblige."
Frightened, Corinne Kerr shut her mouth.
Macy Lynch pointed at Cole Kane. "And you. Have you ever once believed Nina Thorne?"
"Do you really think Serena Kane would flee the country just so she wouldn’t get in the way of your relationship with Nina Thorne? If she were that considerate, she wouldn’t be so shameless. She’s your sister, yet she constantly lets people mistake her for your girlfriend."
Macy Lynch was basically Nina Thorne’s mouthpiece, pleading her case for her.
The commotion attracted a crowd of onlookers, which even included Principal Tate.
Someone asked what was happening, and someone else replied that Nina Thorne was digging up old dirt and deliberately causing trouble for Serena Kane.
Hearing these comments, Serena Kane gloated inwardly.
It was the first time Cole Kane had been berated so publicly, and his face turned grim. "A filthy mind sees filth in everything. We’re just brother and sister."
"Macy Lynch, stop disrupting the peace here, or I’ll call security."
He looked at Nina Thorne with disgust. "So this is the kind of friend you have. No class at all!"
Macy Lynch exploded like a firecracker. "Even if I have no class, I’m still better than that sister of yours who dreams of climbing into her own brother’s bed!"
That single sentence caused an uproar.
The crowd immediately broke into gossip, their eyes darting back and forth between Cole Kane and Serena Kane.
Serena Kane’s face went deathly pale as tears streamed down. "Macy Lynch, how could you humiliate me like this? My brother and I are very close. Even if you want to stand up for Nina Thorne, you shouldn’t destroy my reputation!"
"Macy Lynch, you’ve gone too far." Cole Kane turned to Nina Thorne, his anger boiling over. "You’ve got some nerve. Did you really think slandering Serena would make me believe you? That I’d go soft and forgive you? Let me tell you, this only makes me more disappointed in you. And Macy Lynch’s slander could land her in court!"
In the past, his biased words would have cut like a sharp blade, tearing Nina Thorne’s heart in two.
But she had already decided to stop loving him. Or perhaps, after being hurt so many times, she now felt nothing at all.
In fact, she found him pathetic.
Among the onlookers were some busybodies from their university days, and they all started pointing fingers at Nina Thorne.
"I heard about this back then. Nina Thorne used her status as a rich young lady to bully Serena Kane plenty."
"Right, right, I know about this too. Nina Thorne even called Serena Kane a lowly adopted daughter..."
"That’s nothing! Nina Thorne treated Serena Kane as a rival, accused her of seducing Cole Kane, and even forced her to leave the country..."
"That’s not all. Nina Thorne also bullied female classmates back then. She’s just born bad!"
The crowd was instantly in an uproar, showering Nina Thorne with dagger-like glares and vile accusations.
Principal Tate’s expression was solemn. He stood up to speak for Nina Thorne, telling everyone not to spread false rumors.
But Corinne Kerr spoke with conviction, insisting there was no misunderstanding.
Nina Thorne looked coldly at the crowd of twisted faces, remembering the vicious fabrications and rumors about her during her four years of university, and calmly straightened her back.
Seeing her thin and lonely figure, Macy Lynch’s heart ached and her eyes reddened. She desperately wanted to hug her.
Macy Lynch had witnessed with her own eyes how Nina Thorne had endured all this malice for these four years.
She gritted her teeth in anger. "You bunch of gullible morons..."
Before she could finish, Nina Thorne suddenly grabbed her wrist and said calmly, "Let me."
Macy Lynch suppressed her anger and nodded.
Nina Thorne took out her phone, aimed it at the crowd, and started recording. "Say everything you just said again. I’d like to have it on video when I file a police report and ask them to investigate."
"If I, Nina Thorne, really did the things you’re accusing me of, I’ll accept any consequences. But if you’re slandering me with empty words, then I reserve the right to pursue legal action."
The crowd, so agitated a moment before, now just looked at each other in stunned silence.
Macy Lynch scoffed at their cowardice.
Serena Kane gritted her teeth in silence, not daring to make a peep. Corinne Kerr was even more silent, terrified that Macy Lynch would hit her.
Cole Kane frowned, a flicker of doubt in his mind.
’Could he have really misunderstood Nina Thorne?’
’But Serena did go abroad. That’s a fact.’
’And she left right after Nina Thorne caused that huge scene over that incident.’
"It’s been many years; don’t make things difficult for them," Cole Kane said, his expression softening. "As long as you stop targeting Serena from now on, I can still bring myself to be with you."
"..." Nina Thorne let out a laugh of pure exasperation.
’So he thinks I was defending my name just now... for him?’
’You really can’t beat someone who has no shame.’
Macy Lynch sneered, "Who do you think you are? Let me give you some advice: take a good look in the mirror. Nina Thorne never loved you. The husband she found is countless times better than you!"
Nina Thorne quickly grabbed Macy Lynch’s hand, afraid she would let the secret slip.
Her relationship with Justin Kane was awkward. Not to mention, she still hadn’t resolved the matter of breaking off her engagement with Cole Kane.
Whether her marriage with Justin Kane could even continue was still a question.
Macy Lynch immediately fell silent.
Cole Kane latched onto that crucial piece of information, and his expression darkened.
Remembering the man’s voice he had heard on the phone, Cole Kane grabbed Nina Thorne’s hand. "What husband? You have another man?"
Nina Thorne faced his fury and thought sardonically,
’I don’t just have another man. That man is his very own brother!’
