Chapter 51: Chapter 51 - Collapse

A dark-brown spike shot out of the ground, heading straight for Theo.

He gritted his teeth, pushing his feet off the ground with everything he had.

The spike pierced through his clothes, just barely drawing a faint line of blood on his side.

’Shit,’ he thought. ’His mana is running rampant!’

He immediately ducked down again, dodging a spike heading for his head.

’If it continues like this...’ Theo thought, his chest tightening with desperation. ’He’ll really die.’

Even though he knew what was going on, there was absolutely nothing he could do to help him.

Another spike tore out of the ground right in front of him, forcing Theo to twist his body mid-step.

Yet as the spikes continued coming for him, his attention was only on Owen.

His inhuman screams just barely echoed out under all the chaos, clearly going through immense amounts of pain.

’Can I do anything for him?’ Theo thought, nails digging into his palms. ’Anything at all?’

Just then, several massive spikes shot through the ceiling of the cave.

Theo’s head snapped up, his eyes widening.

A loud rumbling noise echoed out from above.

Cracks spread rapidly across the ceiling, running along the stone like fractures in glass.

Small pieces broke loose first, falling past Theo as dust began to pour down.

’’SHIT!’’

Then, the entire ceiling crumbled apart.

Large chunks of rock tumbled down at rapid speeds, collapsing onto the ground with deafening thuds.

Theo’s eyes widened as he threw himself to the side, barely avoiding a massive slab that crashed down where he had been standing a second ago.

The impact shook the entire cave, sending more debris raining down as thick clouds of dust filled the air.

’Water shield,’ he thought, raising both his hands immediately.

A blue shield-like bubble rapidly formed above him.

Large chunks of rock slammed into it within seconds, sending ripples through the water.

The shield absorbed impact after impact, each hit forcing Theo to lower his knees slightly from the sheer amount of pressure above him.

’It’s too much,’ he thought, teeth clenched.

Another massive slab crashed down, the impact forcing his shield several inches lower.

Theo’s arms shook as he held it in place, his vision blurring slightly from the pressure.

Seconds later, the rumbling noise finally began to fade.

’Is it over?’ he thought, arms trembling.

With all his strength, he pushed the solid water shield up on one side, the debris sliding to the other.

As he climbed on top of the debris, clouds of dust swarmed his vision, making him completely unable to see anything.

’’The others,’’ he coughed, his ears still ringing.

He climbed over pieces of rock, barely able to see a yard in front of him as he dashed toward Iris and Emma.

Ahead of him, shapes slowly began to form.

Finally, Theo came to a stop, his heart pounding.

’Emma...’

She laid there, half-buried under a large slab with deflated plants all around her.

A piece of a stone spike was embedded deep into her leg, blood soaking through her clothes as she struggled to move.

That’s when Theo noticed another figure beside her.

She coughed wildly, waving her hand in front of her to get rid of the dust.

’’Iris...’’ Theo said slowly, noticing the deep gash running at her hairline, leaking blood down her face.

Despite all the injuries... both were alive.

’’Help us,’’ Emma’s voice rang out between coughs.

A plant immediately rose under the debris, pushing the large slab off both of them.

Theo nodded, clenching his teeth as he pulled both of them back.

THUD!

The slab collapsed onto the ground again just beneath their feet.

’’Can you pull this out and cauterize it?’’ Emma immediately asked, still coughing as she pointed at her leg.

The spike was still embedded in her leg, but that wasn’t the main worry.

With all the blood that was leaking out, it wouldn’t be a surprise if she was dead within twenty minutes.

’’Prepare yourself,’’ Theo said without hesitation.

Emma nodded, pushing her arm into her mouth instantly.

Theo yanked the spike out and sealed the wound with the heat from his lightning.

Emma let out a muffled scream, biting down so hard that blood seeped from her arm.

Her body trembled as the pain slowly settled, heavy breaths forcing their way through her clenched teeth.

’’Are there any other wounds?’’ Theo asked quickly.

Both Iris and Emma shook their heads, their faces pale from the entire disaster.

Theo exhaled once, forcing himself to stay focused.

His gaze went up, scouring around the place.

’Owen,’ he thought, clenching his fists. ’Please... survive.’

As the dust slowly settled, everything went quiet for a moment.

Theo’s gaze remained locked on the place where Owen had been, his heart pounding heavily in his ears.

Yet, he knew it was impossible for any human to survive something like that.

’’Buddy,’’ he mumbled, all kinds of memories flashing through his mind.

Finally—

A massive, dark-brown sphere revealed itself to them.

’’Could it be...?’’ Theo muttered under his breath.

Just as he was about to take a step forward—

Iris’s hand grabbed his arm.

Theo turned immediately, glancing at her with confusion in his eyes.

Both Emma and Iris were staring past him, their faces pale and their eyes wide.

Slowly, Theo turned to look in the same direction.

That’s when he understood.

The wolf stood up, heavy winds blowing debris pieces off its body.

The devices on its back were shattered, pieces of glass lodged deep into its flesh.

Dark liquid leaked into its wounds, spreading through its body.

The winds around it increased rapidly, blowing dust into the air again.

Theo’s expression hardened.

He glanced back at the earth sphere for a moment, clearly hesitant.

Finally, he looked at the large open sky above him, which was now at least several hundred meters high.

’’You two... go to Owen,’’ he said, his voice tight. ’’See if you can do anything for him.’’

He took a step forward, two lightning bolts forming above his hands.

’’I’ll deal with this.’’
