Chapter 456: Chapter 456: Flirtations from Time to Time

Lin Yue looked at Ningwan intently and asked with a smile, "Sister, do you like it?"

Ningwan felt instantly awkward, with an embarrassed expression.

Zhan Hanjue’s face also darkened immediately, watching Lin Yue with deep-set eyes.

Lin Yue quickly smiled and explained, "Sister, don’t misunderstand me. I just think you have high standards. If you like it, then the girls who like me must be as excellent as you."

"Haha, you’re so outstanding, of course, many excellent girls will like you. Go take a shower and change clothes, we’ll have breakfast in a bit," said Ningwan.

Lin Yue nodded and turned to go back to the guest room.

Once he left, Zhan Hanjue warned Ningwan with a serious face, "Wanwan, does this kid have feelings for you? I keep feeling like he’s flirting with you. I’m not jealous, it’s a man’s instinct."

Zhan Hanjue was worried she’d think he was jealous and overthinking things, so he quickly explained urgently with a serious face.

Ningwan was extremely embarrassed.

Actually, she had the same feeling just a moment ago.

But on second thought, she was so much older than Lin Yue. Even if Lin Yue lacked maternal love, he couldn’t possibly like her, right?

"Don’t be mad, maybe he’s just been abroad too long. People overseas are like that, speaking and acting more openly. When he comes back, I’ll remind him. Since he’s returned, we still need to be more reserved and subtle, not like when we’re abroad," Ningwan could only comfort Zhan Hanjue.

However, Zhan Hanjue’s expression still looked unhappy.

When Lin Yue came out for breakfast, Zhan Hanjue still had a stern face.

Lin Yue finally noticed his unfriendly expression and asked innocently, "Mr. Zhan, what’s wrong? You don’t look well. Is there something troubling you? Or is it because I’m staying here, making you unhappy?"

Ningwan quickly said, "No, it’s because of work. Hurry and eat breakfast, and we’ll visit Miss Ke later."

"Mr. Zhan, if there’s any trouble at the company, feel free to tell me. I’ll do my best to help wherever I can, since my sister is with you," Lin Yue said.

Zhan Hanjue chuckled humorlessly.

It sounded as if he was incompetent and needed Ningwan to rely on him for assistance.

"Lin Yue, although the previous project gave me headaches, it’s not beyond salvage. If you don’t invest, I’ll just cancel the project. The financial loss is still bearable for Zhan Group. I’m older than you, after all, and I’ve navigated the business world for many years. If there’s anything you don’t understand, feel free to ask me. Considering Wanwan, I’ll help wherever I can," Zhan Hanjue said with a faint smile.

Lin Yue lowered his head with a smile and nodded, "Mr. Zhan is right, I spoke arrogantly. Mr. Zhan is my senior, and I have much to learn from you. In the future, please guide me more. I also hope to be as successful as Mr. Zhan someday, so life will be complete."

"He’s your brother-in-law, no need to be so formal. Hurry and eat," Ningwan said, taking the initiative to pick up the chopsticks, giving Lin Yue a small meat bun and Zhan Hanjue a crab and shrimp bun.

Lin Yue took a bite and, seeing it was pure meat inside, said emotionally, "Sister, you still remember my allergy to shrimp?"

Zhan Hanjue’s bun was crab and shrimp, he hadn’t eaten it yet, but the smell was detectable.

Ningwan said, "Of course I remember. Don’t forget, I’m a TCM doctor."

"But so many years have passed, I thought you’d forgotten," Lin Yue smiled bitterly.

"Alright, stop talking and eat up," Ningwan smiled and reminded.

After breakfast, Zhan Hanjue headed to the company, and Ningwan accompanied Lin Yue to the cemetery.

When Ningwan sent Zhan Hanjue to the car, he reluctantly held her hand and softly reminded, "He’s no longer the child he once was, he’s an adult now. Be mindful around him, avoid unnecessary misunderstandings and troubles."

"I know, don’t worry, I’ll be mindful," Ningwan replied.

She then leaned down to kiss Zhan Hanjue on the cheek, before closing the car door for him.

But when she turned around, she saw Lin Yue standing at the door, watching her with deep eyes.

Ningwan was taken aback, then walked toward Lin Yue.

"Lin Yue, let’s go!"

"Okay, sister,"

Lin Yue smiled, his eyes returning to their previous brightness and clarity, and he proactively opened the car door for Ningwan.

The car drove off.

Lin Yue looked at the changing scenery outside and said with emotion, "Jiangcheng has changed so much, I almost didn’t recognize it."

"Yes, when I first returned, I also felt the changes were drastic, almost unrecognizable," Ningwan agreed.

"Sister, I heard you lived abroad alone with a child for four years?" Lin Yue asked.

Ningwan nodded, "Yes, so I haven’t been back for long and I’m not particularly familiar with the new Jiangcheng. If you want to look around, I’m afraid I can’t be your guide, you’ll need your brother Ye Shao for that."

"Sister, I was sent abroad by Zhan Hanjue because of his quarrel with you. Later, so much happened between you two, and because of him, you had to leave home with a child. Didn’t you ever resent him?" Lin Yue asked earnestly.

"No," Ningwan answered with certainty, "we love each other, maybe there were difficulties and frustrations in between, resentment, anger, even a fleeting wish to never meet again. But there was no hatred. When I saw him again, all those past grievances, memories, and anger disappeared."

"Sister answers so firmly, it seems she truly loves him. I must say, I envy him for being so loved by someone like Sister," Lin Yue sighed with a bitter smile.

Ningwan said, "You don’t need to envy others. You’re so great, one day you’ll meet someone who truly loves you."

"Is that so? Maybe!" Lin Yue murmured.

"Madam, we have arrived."

The driver stopped the car and reminded Ningwan.

"Alright."

Ningwan pushed the car door open and got out, with Lin Yue following behind.

The car could only drive to the foothill, and they had to walk up themselves.

In a shop at the foothill, Ningwan bought two bouquets of chrysanthemums and handed one to Lin Yue.

It wasn’t the Qingming Festival, so there weren’t many people visiting graves. Along the stone steps of the cemetery, trees flanked both sides. The dark green treetops cast shadows on the stone steps, creating a solemn and dignified atmosphere.

The mountain, which should have been elegantly picturesque like ink painting, appeared majestic and somber due to the grey-white tombstones scattered across.

They walked all the way up to Ke Yingying’s grave.

The tombstone was clean, with some offerings placed before it. It seemed people frequently came to pay their respects.

"Miss Ke also has a nephew, he probably comes often. I’ve met him before," Ningwan explained to Lin Yue.
