Becoming Secret Nanny for Possessive CEO-Chapter 93: Engagement Party Part II
Edith was actually starting to get nervous facing the woman. Moreover, the woman’s sarcastic voice had many of the invited guests focused on them. Edith wanted to tell the truth about Cliff’s secret affair with Arabella a week before their wedding. However, she didn’t have the courage to reveal the truth because all the invited guests had sided with Cliff, while now only Callum was on her side. That was what left her unable to do anything now but find every reason to deny the hoax.
"That news isn’t true. Shouldn’t you find out the truth first?" As usual, Edith resolved the matter gracefully.
"But, why did you have to cancel your wedding if you weren’t having an affair?"
"I didn’t want the situation to escalate further because of that hoax. That’s why I decided to call off our wedding right then." Edith’s gaze fell on Cliff, who remained silent for a moment. "Besides, Cliff didn’t want to continue our relationship until the situation calmed down."
Cliff immediately nodded his head. "What Edith said was true. The situation was very chaotic at the time. Rather than continuing our relationship, it would have been better for us to end it temporarily. But now that we’re ready for marriage, we won’t delay any longer."
The young man patted Cliff on the shoulder. "It does make more sense this way. If I were you, I would definitely cancel the wedding for now."
"If Edith was actually cheating, why would we want to take our relationship to the next level? And why should I accept her as my girlfriend again?"
In the end, the woman fell silent, immediately leaving the main star pair in annoyance.
Now Edith breathed a sigh of relief as she looked at Cliff. She was grateful to him for helping her fight that cunning woman. However, she still loved Callum because he never intended to betray her.
"Thank you for helping me, Cliff."
"Of course I have to help you because I don’t want our engagement party to be ruined by that woman. Besides, she’s always been a sucker for spreading weird rumors."
"But, why did you invite that woman to our party if you knew she would ruin the party?"
"Because her family is related to mine, I was forced to invite her."
Edith hugged her lover’s hand tightly again. "Shall we go greet the other guests?"
"But, don’t you want to take a break? The ball is about to start."
"It’s okay. I’d love to meet all your friends. Most of them are very friendly."
"Okay, if you ever need a break, you have to let me know." Cliff took a moment to take a cookie for his fiancée. "You have to eat too."
Seeing Cliff acting exactly like Callum usually did made her want to end this party even more quickly. She tried to hold back her tears as she took a bite of the cookies.
"Thank you, Cliff."
"If you want more cookies, I can feed you."
"No need. I can eat by myself."
"By the way, do you usually hate being fed? Why is it that every time I try to feed you, you always refuse?"
"I don’t usually like being fed. I just feel uncomfortable, even though everyone thinks it’s very romantic."
Cliff laughed awkwardly, gently pinching his fiancée’s cheek. "You’re so stiff, Edith. But I don’t mind as long as you’re comfortable."
In the midst of the star couple’s conversation, Arabella suddenly approached them with an arrogant air. Edith already had a bad feeling about this. She was sure Arabella would bully her, having been provoked beforehand.
"By the way, Cliff, could I borrow your fiancée for a moment? Your parents are looking for you, after all."
"Okay, then I’ll leave Edith to you."
Now only Edith was left facing Arabella, while Cliff immediately ran over to a special table where the extended family had gathered.
"Why do you want to talk to me all of a sudden, Arabella?"
Arabella smiled sarcastically, folding her arms. "Do you enjoy being fought over by two men at once?"
"What do you mean?"
"I won’t let you steal Callum. You probably already know how our relationship is now."
Edith rolled her eyes and laughed awkwardly. "Arabella, I think you’ve misunderstood. I just want to be with Cliff right now. Callum and I are just friends."
"Really? Then why does Callum still seem interested in you? How else did you try to seduce him?"
"I’ve never flirted with anyone except Cliff. Now that you’re engaged to Callum and I’m engaged to Cliff, I can only hope our relationships with our partners go smoothly until the wedding."
Arabella narrowed her eyes and stroked her chest. "Okay, I’ll trust you. Besides, Callum seems to really care for me, having taken the time to buy me lingerie before."
"Arabella, what are you actually doing?" Callum suddenly approached the two women with a dashing appearance, making Edith’s eyes sparkle when she saw him.
"Of course I spoke with Edith before the ball started. I couldn’t possibly stand around waiting for you to talk to your family."
Callum looked at his beloved fiancée with sparkling eyes. "Thank you for accompanying my fiancée, Edith."
"I’m glad I got to talk to him earlier. I’m going to feel lonely too since Cliff left me earlier."
"Who said I was leaving you? My family and I are done now," Cliff said loudly as he walked quickly toward his fiancée.
Edith smiled shyly at her lover’s arrival. "I won’t be lonely now that you’re with me."
"The dance party will start soon, how about we get ready first?" asked Cliff, extending his right hand to Edith.
Meanwhile, Arabella didn’t want to be outdone. She immediately embraced her fiancé tightly. "Can I dance with my fiancé too?"
"Of course. This dance isn’t just for me and Edith. It’s for you two too."
Both Edith and Callum could only remain silent with each other as they tried to hold back the jealousy they were experiencing now.
