Became a Demon with Pregnancy System-Chapter 42: The Drug Effects
Marissa wasn’t moving, nor was she speaking. Her gaze remained fixed on Luke, her lips slightly parted as she exhaled softly, almost in a trance. A faint blush spread across her cheeks, creeping down to her neck.
"What’s going on? This feels a bit strange..." Luke’s brow furrowed.
Just as he opened his mouth to call for Zoe, he felt a gentle tug on his hand. He glanced down to see Marissa’s small, jade-like fingers entwining with his own.
"What the..." Luke trailed off, confused.
Her eyes grew hazy, and her breathing quickened. A crimson flush spread over her pale, delicate face. Luke’s mind flashed back to a memory—something he had once read in a novel: the first time someone takes a concoction infused with unique bloodlines or essence, unexpected side effects might occur.
"This... this can’t be happening!" Luke’s eyes widened in realization.
The antidote they had given her had been made with his essence blood. While it had successfully purged the poison, it also carried certain... unintended effects.
Marissa’s flushed body, free of any trace of the poison, was now radiating heat. Her skin seemed almost luminous, dotted with a faint pink hue. The sight was both stunning and dangerously alluring.
Luke gulped. "This is bad. Really bad."
Before he could react, Marissa leaned closer, her warm breath brushing against his neck. Her tongue grazed the back of his hand, leaving trails of heat that sent shivers down his spine.
"Damn it," Luke muttered, feeling a strange warmth coursing through his own body, centering in his dantian.
His demon bloodline and physique, which had already been enhanced, were not immune to the effects of the antidote. Even though he had consumed only a small amount, it was enough to elicit a reaction. If this was how he felt, he could only imagine what Marissa was experiencing.
"She absorbed the whole dose... no wonder she’s reacting this strongly." Luke’s face flushed as he tried to figure out a solution.
Despite the heat building within him, Luke fought to maintain composure. For a fleeting moment, he contemplated walking away. But the memory of the toxins that had nearly taken her life stopped him.
If the residual effects weren’t addressed, the antidote could turn against her, and Marissa could suffer severe backlash.
"There’s no choice. I’ll help her through this, even if it kills me," Luke resolved, his voice low and firm.
Marissa’s body writhed in his arms, her flushed face pressing against his chest. Her trembling hands clutched his shirt as though seeking an anchor. Luke sighed, gently lifting her.
"Marissa, I’ll help you... just hold on," he murmured.
While Luke was preoccupied, the battle outside the Blue Wolf Valley was reaching its climax.
Hua Caijie and Chloe Carter led their forces with unparalleled ferocity. Chloe, in particular, fought with a tenacity that left even her comrades stunned. Her Silent Thunder Death spell alone had wiped out dozens of Flame Explosion Tigers in one strike.
"What’s gotten into her today?" Zach mused, watching Chloe’s relentless charge. "She’s like a storm."
The coalition of demons, already fractured by the loss of their commanders, was rapidly losing morale. Without leaders to guide them, many demons broke ranks and fled into the wilderness.
Zach, observing the retreating demons, allowed himself a small sigh of relief. Nearly a third of the Demon Wolf Legion had perished, but their sacrifice had not been in vain. Those who survived would grow stronger by devouring the remains of their fallen foes—a natural order of the demon world.
"Zach, your efforts have ensured a great victory for the Southeast Military Region!" A military commander with thick eyebrows clapped Zach on the shoulder, grinning broadly. "Tens of thousands of slaves, nearly a thousand generals—this is a triumph!"
Zach waved off the praise. "I had little to do with it. The real credit goes to Luke."
"Humble, are we? Well, we’ll celebrate when this is all over. Don’t think you’re getting out of it!"
The commanders laughed heartily, but their joy was tempered by the knowledge that the war wasn’t truly over. While the humans had won a significant battle, the ongoing clash between the monarch-level creatures loomed in the background.
In the depths of the battlefield, the Spirit Wind Monkey and the Female Wolf King continued their deadly dance. The Spirit Wind Monkey wielded its iron staff with precision, its eyes glowing with spectral white light as it unleashed psychic assaults.
The Female Wolf King, her black firefly-like energy swirling around her, fought with a ferocity that only grew as the battle raged on. The lifeless bodies of demons littering the battlefield were drawn into her energy field, fueling her strength.
The Spirit Wind Monkey, however, was no ordinary opponent. Its cunning and agility allowed it to evade even the most devastating of blows. Despite its injuries, it managed to strike back with calculated precision, keeping the Female Wolf King on edge.
But as the battle wore on, the Spirit Wind Monkey began to realize it was outmatched. It glared at the human military in frustration, silently cursing them for their betrayal. They were supposed to aid its forces, not turn against them.
With a frustrated roar, the Spirit Wind Monkey swung its staff one final time, its power forcing the Female Wolf King to stagger. But instead of pressing the advantage, it vanished into thin air, retreating from the battlefield.
"Woo!!!"
The Female Wolf King licked the blood from her mouth and howled with her head held high.
The battle for supremacy had ended, and it was her—the great leader of the Demon Wolf Tribe—who emerged victorious.
"Whew!!"
"Whew!!"
"Whew!!"
The wolves, aroused by the victory, howled in unison, their cries echoing across the battlefield.
The monarch battle had turned in favor of the Female Wolf King, thanks to the intervention of the human military. Caden Carter, a three-element super-level mage with a soul seed, along with the support of other super-level mages, had tipped the scales.
Two minor monarchs were slain, while a mid-tier monarch barely escaped with its life. On the other hand, the already injured Male Wolf King succumbed to his wounds and perished during the battle.
Caden and the rest of the human forces knew it was time to leave.
"Withdraw immediately!" Caden shouted, rallying the troops.
