Beauty in the beast world-Chapter 237: Reuniting with their mate
Chapter 237: Reuniting with their mate
"Where is your mother?" asked Killian as he cradled the lion cubs in his arms. The little ones looked sleepy and were constantly dozing off but tried to hold back while trying to answer Killian.
A helpless smile graced his face as he looked at the two furballs growling at him seemingly telling about their mother. But Killian was not able to comprehend anything, "I don’t understand" then he glanced at Blake asking for his help.
Blake asked the same question to his babies and the answer that he received made him frown, "Your mom went out of the castle?" the little snakes nodded. That affirmation made him angry, "Why did you guys let her go out in a weather like this?"
The little snakes flinched seeing their father’s anger-filled eyes. He was glaring at them making them squirm in their places. They loved their dad and would tease him often but not when it came to their mom. Their father loved their mother the most and they realized this fact very early. They could understand their father very well because the most important person in their lives was also their mom.
"It’s not their fault, snake" Blake lifted his head when he heard a familiar voice. Demir was looking as restless as him and kept on glancing outside the window seemingly worrying about the heavy snow and cold wind.
"Don’t scold them. I will go and bring her back" With that Demir shifted into his beast form, a black scorpion, and rushed out of the snake castle.
Blake clicked his tongue before he too shifted into his beast form followed by Killian. The latter made sure to put the lion cubs into one of the nearest rooms and left the snake castle together with Blake.
Meanwhile, the little snakes decided to follow their brothers to guard them until their father and mother returns.
....
Lyra was constantly shivering from the cold wind and kept on seeking warmth by leaning on her mate’s broad chest. She didn’t expect the winter to be this harsh. Yes her mates had explained the difficulties of the cold season in the beast world but this? This was too much.
Victor frowned as he hugged his mate as tightly as he could. He noticed her discomfort. She was thinly dressed and he had no choice other than covering her with his own robe. The cold season came unexpectedly pushing them into this situation.
Other the other side, Peter added dry wood to the fire making sure to keep the queen warm. Females were born fragile and had to be protected. Unlike male beastmen, females didn’t have their beast forms and hence were exposed to harsh climate changes without any advantage in the beast world.
"I think we should return to the castle" announced Victor as he got up from the ground with his mate in his arms. He could not watch this anymore. His sweet girl was definitely having a hard time. She was not even able to open her eyes or talk. This was a sign of her catching a fever. Whenever she gets a fever, the symptoms started with her feeling lethargic and sleepy. He blamed himself for letting her stay in the snow.
Peter hurriedly got up from his place and walked passed Victor to remove the boulder from the entrance. But just as he was about to push the stone, some outside force did it forcing him to retreat. He was about to put on a fighting stance but stopped when he sensed a familiar scent.
Blake threw the boulder aside using his tail and shifted into his beastman form and put on his robe before rushing inside the house. He could feel his mate’s distress due to their mate bond making him desperate to see her as soon as possible.
Killian and Demir likewise felt the same as Blake did and they too shifted into their beastman forms before going inside the shelter.
"Lilly?" Blake’s choked-up voice reverberated inside the house making Lyra flinch in Victor’s arms. She strugglingly raised her head and stared at Blake with her eyes brimming with tears. She wanted to call and go to him but was helpless. Her body refused to move away from the warmth that Victor was providing.
Just as she was about to close her eyes, she felt a warm hand on her forehead, "You have a fever" a stern but familiar voice greeted her making a smile subtly.
"Oh...." she started talking with her voice a little rasped and congested due to cold, "Is that my stubborn panther?" she felt a pinch on her as soon as she finished talking making her chuckle but that instead turned into a coughing fit sending all of her mates frenzied.
"Give her to me" Killian demanded as he raised his body temperature with his firepower.
Although hesitant, Victor handed his mate to Killian and stepped back. He realized his mate’s condition and wanted to keep her warm even if meant giving her away.
Killian held Lyra close to his chest and started to stride outside the stone shelter followed by others. His grip on her tightened slightly when he smelled the subtle scent of Demir on his mate. She was with Victor for so long but it seemed like it was not enough to wash the mating traces left by Demir. Pushing his irritation down, he hurried his steps toward the snake castle as he made sure to keep his mate warm. The snow kept on falling on his back but he had no time to care. He wanted to reach the castle as soon as possible for his mate. She needed to take a rest in a warm place to get better.
Lyra dozed off leaning on her mate’s chest and didn’t know when she reached the castle or when she was laid on the bed.
Covering her with a thick animal hide, Killian lighted the fireplace inside the room and shifted into his beast form before scooting near her.
Blake and Demir on the other hand decided to remain far from their mate because their body temperament was cold and not ideal for someone who was having a fever due to cold. Whereas Victor had no such obligation and lay on the other side of the bed as he pulled his mate into to hug earning a glare from Killian.
Lyra slipped into a deep slumber and the next time she opened her eyes, she was inside a forest that was far too familiar for some reason. Colorful flowers and giant trees surrounded her. But what unnerved her was people with wings on their backs flying everywhere that her eyes went.
