Beastmen: She Tames the Land-Chapter 70: Finally finding a home
Uri stood beside her, his eyes sweeping the landscape.
He could feel something different about this place. Something was thrumming in a corner of his soul. It was similar to when they did rituals in the snake tribe. They would feel the energy gather if the ritual was done right. This place is similar. But there was no need for a ritual. The energy lived here.
He looked at the natural stone walls of the caldera, solid, unyielding. Currently, he was sure there was only one way in and old. He would need to scout the entire caldera to make sure. But for now, this place was just what they needed.
Xeno’s gaze was fixed on the valley floor. He saw the herd of deer grazing by the lake, a flock of beautiful birds, and fish jumping in the water. It was a place where they didn’t need to go hungry. He saw a place that was warmer than a hut, more defensible than the Tiger tribe. He saw a home where he could finally stop running. A place to protect his mates, his family, without constantly having to watch over his shoulder.
The tension in his shoulders eased. He had carried that tension with him since the moment they left the grotto. But now, it had disappeared.
The trio left the caldera reluctantly.
Uri, Visha, and Xeno walked back to the camp. Their minds filled with what they had just seen. They were excited to share the discovery with their pack mates. Through their shared bond, they could feel that all three of them approved of this place as a home.
What was left was to convince the pack to stay. They hoped they would be able to make them see exactly what they saw.
"We found something, Vishe began. Her voice was clear and steady. "The three of us believe this place could become our home, but we want you to make an informed choice."
Tension rippled through the pack.
"The place we found isn’t like the place with the flowers. It is beautiful, but there is nothing there to hurt us," Xeno spoke, his voice proud.
"If you wish, we will take you to look. We will not force you to live in a place you feel is uncomfortable. This is supposed to be a home for all of us, not just the three of us," Uri said, his voice indifferent.
"Imagine a bowl of stone. It’s so wide you can fit a pack of Amster inside. The walls are cliffs. So high they scrape the clouds. So far, we’ve only found one way in. The rest would be up to us, scouting the entire place." She continued, "The ground is warm under your feet. The air smells like it is alive. There is clean water."
Uri made his own observations known to the pack. Followed by Xeno.
"It sounds too good to be true," Fil whispered. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"Maybe," Visha admitted. "But I’ve seen it. If you want to see it too, we can take you."
"We will not pressure anyone to go and look. All we ask is that for tonight, you will think about it. We are making a home for everyone, remember that. If you are uncomfortable or have doubts, feel free to ask questions," Uri suggested.
That night, the camp was unusually silent.
Vish took note of the fact that the valley of flowers had cast a significant shadow on them. She couldn’t help them get rid of the shadow; all she could do was walk with them.
She thought, maybe once they saw the place tomorrow, they would want to stay.
The next day came too quickly.
Uri asked, "Is there anyone who does not want to see it? We will be leaving soon."
There was silence. Everyone was tense.
Visha let out a sigh. She knew they needed to see it for themselves.
The winding passage felt like coming home to Visha. She knew what awaited her, but she could feel the tension of her pack members. They were still afraid after what happened.
After breaking through the passage, the world opened to them.
There was no collective gasp or dramatic cries. There was only...silence. The pack members stood frozen as they looked on at the scene in front of them. The sheer size of it made them wonder if they had found their way to another planet.
Nimo was the first to break the spell. "It’s singing," he whispered.
Everyone was close enough to hear what he said. They knew Nimo was a special child. Sometimes he could see things they were unable to. With his confirmation, everyone let go of their worry.
Willa let out a choked sob. Tears fell from her eyes. Not ones of fear but of relief. Fil held her in his arms as he looked out at the place they would call home.
Cato’s eyes were fixed on the cliff walls. He was looking for signs of weakness. Not seeing any, his gaze softened.
Even Krag and Chi seemed impressed. They exchanged a meaningful glance.
Visha felt her bond with Uri and Xeno hum with a shared triumph. They didn’t need to work to convince anyone to stay. Their reactions confirmed everything.
"So, what do you think?" Visha asked softly.
Visha asked, not because she thought they would refuse to live here. But because she wanted to hear it. She wanted to hear them affirm the place she had chosen to live.
"The Tiger tribe believes that sacrificing for the protection of the tribe...dying in battle is the greatest honour." He looked at Visha. "This is a good place to die." A smile graced his lips once he said it. But he continued, "But...it is a much, much better place to live."
The rest of the pack members nodded in agreement.
Their journey was over. They followed the path. The path led them to their destination.
The Warm pack has taken its first step toward becoming a tribe.
