Yin Jiang stood up, walked over, and hummed faintly, his body blocking the man’s line of sight into the cave.
"I heard your mate’s here, brother. Are you afraid I’ll see her and decide to stick around?" the Beastman said with a laugh.
"My female is a bit shy around strangers. Don’t frighten her," Yin Jiang said coolly.
"Brother, I know Grandma can be a bit nagging and controlling, and Father is obsessed with his reputation, always putting on airs as the Clan Leader. It’s been hard on you and your mate.
"But we’re family. There’s no need to be so distant, is there? Didn’t we used to get along just fine?" the Beastman sighed, sounding slightly hurt.
Yin Jiang chuckled. "What you call ’getting along fine,’ do you mean you running around causing trouble under my name? Or was it me hunting down food, only for you to come over and freeload until you were about to burst?
"I let it slide in the past, but now I have my own female to provide for. I don’t have any extra food to give you as a handout."
The Beastman’s expression darkened. "Yin Jiang, what’s that supposed to mean? A ’handout’? We’re family! What’s wrong with sharing the fruits of our labor?
"You don’t have to make it sound so ugly! I hang around with you because I think highly of you. It’s a favor..."
"Are you done?" Yin Jiang said bluntly. "If you’re done, then get out."
The Beastman took a deep breath and said through gritted teeth, "I came to ask... Li Gu’s eyes are better. Did your female heal them?
"When will she have time to take a look at Grandma? Grandma cried herself blind over you. We’re bound by blood. You can’t just sever those ties."
Yin Jiang scoffed. "Fine. We’ll see when she has time."
After the man left, he stood at the entrance of the cave for a long time until Si Shuo walked over and tugged on his clothes.
Yin Jiang turned and hugged her, chuckling softly. "Shuo’er, I’m fine. I just feel like I was a fool for everything I did in the past.
"Back then, I truly thought of them as family and let everything slide. I never imagined they just saw me as the family’s hired hand. They said all the right things, but it was only for their reputation, and they definitely took advantage of me.
"Now that I don’t care anymore, I don’t even feel disheartened. I’m just reflecting on it, that’s all."
Si Shuo nodded. "It’s not too late to realize it now, Yin Jiang. Tomorrow, take us for a walk around the area. I want to see what the place where you grew up looks like.
"We’ll make them wait a bit. Right before we’re about to leave, I’ll take a look at your Grandma’s eyes."
Yin Jiang smiled and hummed in agreement, lazily resting his head on her shoulder as a gentle warmth and contentment spread through his heart.

Si Shuo cracked open an eye. It was pitch-black, and she couldn’t see a thing. She murmured, shaking her head to clear the drowsiness. After pulling away from his embrace, she subconsciously took two steps to the side, missed her footing, and plummeted straight down...
"AHHHH, OH MY GOD, HELP! YIN JIANG..." Si Shuo’s face went pale with fright, every last trace of drowsiness instantly gone. ’This sudden weightlessness, falling through endless darkness... every second feels like an hour. This is terrifying! My heart is going to pound its way out of my chest!’
A moment later, she heard Yin Jiang’s amused sigh by her ear. He swept her into his arms. "That scared, huh? Where’d all your cleverness go? Can’t you just turn into a big white goose?"
Si Shuo clung to him for dear life, nipping his neck in frustration. "I can’t even fly! When I was falling, I was just completely overcome with terror! How was I supposed to have the presence of mind to think about anything else?!

Yin Jiang smiled and led her to a large boulder. "We can watch the sunrise and sunset from here. Whenever I had free time, I used to come sit here, and my spirits would always lift.
