Ji Liang had already prepared their bed. He took a quick, cool shower and waited for the chill to fade from his skin before coming in to carry her to their room.
Si Shuo nearly fell asleep in the bath. She forced herself to dry off and change, then collapsed onto the clean, soft bed, not wanting to move an inch.
Hearing the sounds, Ji Liang came into the room. After clearing away the bathwater, he began to gently dry her hair. Watching as her expression relaxed and she fell into a deep, unguarded sleep in his arms, his heart melted.
Everyone said that Rogue Beasts were cold and gloomy, emotionally detached, and utterly irresponsible.
In truth, their hearts were just guarded, and they were deeply wary of everyone around them. Without that instinctive caution, they never would have survived in such a harsh world.

Ji Liang sighed and pulled her back, making her walk slowly. "Not only is Xu Chi here, Xiao Cheng is off today too. But he left early this morning without even eating breakfast. Said he was going to visit some of his clan members nearby."
Xu Chi smiled, ladled her a bowl of chicken soup, and handed her a soft, tender ear of corn. He then unwrapped a bamboo tube filled with sticky rice.
Si Shuo loved sticky rice cooked in bamboo tubes, especially this version. It was filled with red beans cooked until they were soft and sweet, mixed with a bit more glutinous rice and raisins, making it wonderfully chewy and delicious.
Xu Chi peeled an egg for her. "A’shuo, Beast Soldiers train for half the day and spend the other half guarding the city or on patrol. We’re on duty for one day, then we get one day off."
