Chapter 155: Chapter 154: I Didn’t Give Them to a Single Family

Gong You smiled and nodded. "Of course. Whatever our sweetheart says, goes. As long as you don’t wear yourself out, you can get up to whatever you want!"

His little female was different from the others. She definitely wasn’t the type to only focus on her daily meals, having cubs, and playing around.

Having her own projects kept her brimming with vitality. Her whole being radiated a positive energy that filled onlookers with strength and joy.

Zhi Le held her hand. "Whatever our kitty wants to do, she can do. We’ll all follow your lead."

The other males all nodded in agreement. Everything at home already revolved around her safety and happiness.

Everything Si Shuo was suggesting would make their life at home better and better, so all they could do was give her their full support.

"Alright, once you’ve all sorted out your schedules, we’re going to be busy," Si Shuo said, already rubbing her hands together in anticipation. She immediately took out paper and a pen and began to map out the preliminary work.

Gong You and Xiao Cheng stayed to keep her company while the other males went to the adjacent courtyard to clean. They also planned to find a Beastman with a Stone Ability to help craft stone beds, tables, and chairs. Meanwhile, Yin Jiang went from room to room, using his ability to dry them out and remove any dampness.

Si Shuo propped her chin on one hand, doodling and writing on the paper with the other. Before long, a wave of sleepiness washed over her.

Ji Liang had already prepared their bed. He took a quick, cool shower and waited for the chill to fade from his skin before coming in to carry her to their room.

Si Shuo nearly fell asleep in the bath. She forced herself to dry off and change, then collapsed onto the clean, soft bed, not wanting to move an inch.

Hearing the sounds, Ji Liang came into the room. After clearing away the bathwater, he began to gently dry her hair. Watching as her expression relaxed and she fell into a deep, unguarded sleep in his arms, his heart melted.

Everyone said that Rogue Beasts were cold and gloomy, emotionally detached, and utterly irresponsible.

In truth, their hearts were just guarded, and they were deeply wary of everyone around them. Without that instinctive caution, they never would have survived in such a harsh world.

’Compared to staying alive, what do kindness and responsibility even matter?’

It wasn’t easy to thaw a heart like that. But once it softened, once it melted... some Rogue Beasts, like him, would entrust you with not just their heart, but their very life.

After a dreamless night, Si Shuo opened her eyes, feeling refreshed. Seeing Ji Liang lazing in bed with her, she couldn’t help but nuzzle against his chest, her voice full of affection and happiness. "Good morning, Ji Liang!"

Ji Liang smiled, wrapping his arms around her and kissing her forehead. "Morning, Little Shushu!"

With plans on her mind, and enjoying the perfectly comfortable morning air, Si Shuo quickly washed up. She wheedled a Twelfth-level Crystal Stone out of him. After her body and the cubs in her belly had absorbed its energy, she used the excess Spiritual Power to create three talismans before heading off to eat.

"Oh, Xu Chi, you’re home today?" Si Shuo said with a smile, about to run toward him as she saw him setting food on the stone table in the courtyard.

Ji Liang sighed and pulled her back, making her walk slowly. "Not only is Xu Chi here, Xiao Cheng is off today too. But he left early this morning without even eating breakfast. Said he was going to visit some of his clan members nearby."

Xu Chi smiled, ladled her a bowl of chicken soup, and handed her a soft, tender ear of corn. He then unwrapped a bamboo tube filled with sticky rice.

Si Shuo loved sticky rice cooked in bamboo tubes, especially this version. It was filled with red beans cooked until they were soft and sweet, mixed with a bit more glutinous rice and raisins, making it wonderfully chewy and delicious.

Xu Chi peeled an egg for her. "A’shuo, Beast Soldiers train for half the day and spend the other half guarding the city or on patrol. We’re on duty for one day, then we get one day off."

"From now on, Xiao Cheng and I will have our days off together, and Zhi Le and Gong You will have theirs together. Yin Jiang is a Squad Leader, so he’s on duty for two days before he gets a day off."

Si Shuo nodded along as she ate, then laid out her own plans. "Starting today, we’re going to learn Beast Text. We have to master it ourselves before we can teach anyone else."

"We’re going to open a school in the future. We can’t have the students knowing how to read while you guys are still illiterate, can we? And in our spare time, we’ll make paper, brushes, and ink blocks!"

’Spreading literacy in Beast Text, producing our own paper, brushes, and ink, and selling all kinds of books... It will surely bring a cultural renaissance to all of Guangshou City, maybe even the entire Central Continent! It’ll drive rapid development in every trade!’

Ji Liang loved eggs. Seeing that Xu Chi was taking good care of her, he cracked one open, peeled it clean in a few swift motions, and popped it into his mouth. He started on a second one, his ears perked to listen in on their conversation.

Xu Chi smiled and nodded. "In that case, we’d better study hard. If we teach the students incorrectly, we’ll just be embarrassing A’shuo."

After finishing her meal, Si Shuo went over to the fence to talk to Yimei about her plan to study Beast Text. She started counting on her fingers. "Yimei, does your family want to learn with us?"

"You want to open a clinic someday. You can’t just rely on your Healing Ability. It would be best to learn how to diagnose illnesses, prescribe medicine, and even perform acupuncture. You could take on apprentices, earn more Crystal Stones... I saw books written in Beast Text about medicine at the Shell Bookstore..."

"Xu Chi mentioned that it’s relatively easy to get promoted to Little Captain or Squad Leader, but to become a Captain in the Beast Soldier Camp, you have to be able to read Beast Text. So your Pan Zhou and Zhe Heng should learn... Oh, and Kouba is a trader, and Hang He loves collecting interesting stories. If they were literate, their prospects would be much better... And the cubs..."

Yimei’s interest was piqued, and she nodded eagerly. "Yes, of course! Our whole family will learn Beast Text with you, Si Shuo!"

Si Shuo couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh. It seemed like Yimei would agree to anything she suggested.

Although Si Shuo hadn’t lazed in bed, she hadn’t woken up particularly early either. After she finished eating and chatting with Yimei for a bit, she saw Xiao Cheng return. He had a grim look on his face and was leading three other males who, like him, had light blue hair.

"Xiao Cheng?" Si Shuo tilted her head. After a moment’s thought, she asked, "Were your clan members not allowed to leave?"

Xiao Cheng’s eyes suddenly reddened. He stepped forward and hugged her, letting out a muffled sound of assent.

"Sister, I used to live in the clan’s forbidden lands with the other members who had the Illusionary Ability. I knew I was a male, but I never truly understood what life was like for the males of our Three-tailed Blue Fox Clan out in the world."

"After talking with you last night, I was too excited to sleep. I went out and started asking around to see which of my clan members lived nearby. Hang He helped me ask, too."

"I left before dawn and visited more than twenty households." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"Some families wouldn’t even let me in the door. In others, all the chores—cooking, laundry, farming, feeding the animals, everything—were left waiting for the males of the Three-tailed Blue Fox Clan to do. Even in the homes where the attitude was a little better, they were reluctant to let them leave to study, seeing it as a waste of time that could be spent earning Crystal Stones."

"I only managed to bring these three back, and that was only because their families heard we were offering them a chance to earn money."

What he didn’t mention was that they had asked if meals would be provided. Only after he’d said yes did they agree to let the men go with him.

"They’re awful people, so I didn’t give away a single one of the Spirit Plants you prepared, sister!" Xiao Cheng said angrily. At the same time, his appreciation for Si Shuo’s kindness deepened.
