Beast Taming: My System is Bugged-Chapter 79 - 78: The Correct Way to Use a Bug
Teacher Zhang had been meaning to find Gu Ming to discuss the Spiritual Technique named *Cyan Pine*.
But when he arrived at the cafeteria, he was immediately mobbed by students and teachers, unable to move an inch.
Gu Ming, standing at the edge of the crowd, waved to Teacher Zhang in the distance, signaling that he didn’t need to come over.
Just then, the system suddenly updated, and a few lines of text popped up.
His attention immediately shifted to the system, eager to see how it would evaluate his decision to name the Cultivation Technique.
"The appearance of the Hall of the Great Dao has brought you unprecedented attention at school."
"Everyone is surprised. No one expected a fifty-year-old like Old Deng to be capable of innovation."
"The *Cyan Pine* Cultivation Technique has been transformed in your hands, creating the path for a sixth edition. As a result, it has been re-indexed by the Hall of the Great Dao and branded with your name."
"People are curious about the new modifications in the sixth edition of the *Cyan Pine* Cultivation Technique, but you have refused to answer."
"For iterating the *Cyan Pine* Cultivation Technique, you have received +1 Achievement Point!"
Gu Ming was stunned after reading the system’s narrative update.
’Did I modify the Cultivation Technique?’
’No, I just gave the Cultivation Technique a name.’
But the system claimed he had iterated the *Cyan Pine* Cultivation Technique.
Gu Ming picked up his tray and left the cafeteria, walking with his head down, deep in thought. Something wasn’t right.
’Wait, this is a bug.’
Gu Ming quickly realized this was a reproducible system loophole.
He had expected the system to reset the timeline. Instead, after its self-correction, it had misinterpreted his action, crediting him with innovating the original *Cyan Pine* Cultivation Technique and thus triggering its indexing by the Hall of the Great Dao.
After all, from the system’s perspective, its past was an event that had already occurred.
Even if Gu Ming forcefully intervened in the present, he couldn’t change events that had already happened from the system’s point of view; he could only affect things that would happen 550 years in the future.
In other words, whenever an action in the present created a result that didn’t align with the future timeline, the system would glitch, causing a misalignment bug.
At this, Gu Ming gradually began to understand how to exploit the bug.
Since the system had mistaken his *Cyan Pine* as the sixth edition, then the method for practicing this new edition would surely be based on his own Cultivation.
In reality, Gu Ming had no idea how to practice a sixth edition; his memory of the Cultivation Technique was still based on the path of the fifth edition.
If he continued to follow the path of the fifth edition exactly, he wondered how the system’s misaligned perception would interpret it.
Perhaps he could just continue his own practice, and the system would create its own version, which in turn would guide his Cultivation.
’If it really works out that way, that would be pretty great.’
As he walked, Gu Ming subconsciously found himself in a dim corner of the academic building—the same spot where Lu You always ate.
After more than two weeks of guidance, the Sunflower Seed-eating Hamster had mastered the Earth Shifting Technique and could now use it simultaneously with the Breathing Technique.
And Lu You, upon seeing Gu Ming, was no longer as reserved as she had been at first.
Though still like an anxious little rabbit, she nodded at Gu Ming’s arrival and then pointed to the hamster to report on its Cultivation progress from yesterday.
Gu Ming nodded. While instructing the hamster, he was also teaching Cyan Treasure the Earth Shifting Technique and other Earth Element Techniques.
Thanks to the two Pet Beasts training side-by-side, Cyan Treasure had also learned the Earth Shifting Technique and could now refine and absorb Earth Element Mana.
At this stage, however, the Earth Element Mana was useless to it, since it was a Grass Attribute Pet Beast.
This Mana could only be stored temporarily before it quickly dissipated.
This also made Gu Ming realize the importance of a Spiritual Root.
Pet Beasts possessed Attribute Spiritual Roots, which determined the proper path and suitable Cultivation Techniques for them.
Forcing a non-Earth Attribute Pet Beast to practice an Earth Attribute technique would only be counterproductive.
Gu Ming hadn’t fully appreciated this before; he had simply been guiding Cyan Treasure to practice the Ultimate Skill based on his intuition.
Having reached this stage, it wasn’t as if Cyan Treasure’s training had been ruined.
On the contrary, this was a necessary step to learning the Mastery of Wood Escape.
The Grass Element Spiritual Root was like a massive tree, its sprawling root system anchored deep in the soil.
That Earth Element Mana was the very ’soil’ in which the Grass Element Spiritual Root needed to anchor itself.
"Cyan Treasure, let your Grass Spiritual Root take root in the newly generated Earth Element Mana. Solidify that Mana and keep it within your body," Gu Ming said.
Upon hearing this, Cyan Treasure’s eyes brightened. It focused intently, using its Magic Power Inner Core to control the Mana within its body. It enveloped its Spiritual Root with Grass Attribute Mana, then transported the "soil" to the base of the root.
As it performed this step, beads of sweat gradually formed on Cyan Treasure’s forehead.
Manipulating a Spiritual Root was no easy task. After all, it involved moving something inside the body that was akin to "flesh and blood" tied to one’s bloodline—something so special that only Mana could move it.
Consequently, the process of moving the Grass Spiritual Root was slow, and each small shift required immense mental exertion.
The Sunflower Seed-eating Hamster watched from the side and began to mimic the method Gu Ming had just outlined.
The hamster was an Earth Attribute Pet, but its Breathing Technique allowed it to absorb Grass Attribute Spiritual Qi.
When Cyan Treasure breathed nearby, a large amount of Grass Spiritual Qi was drawn toward it. The hamster secretly siphoned off a little, which was enough to accumulate a significant amount inside its own body.
Struck by a flash of inspiration, Gu Ming instructed the hamster, "Channel the Grass Spiritual Qi into your earth element, condense it into a seed, and wait for it to take root and sprout."
Grass Element Pets and Earth Element Pets had two different approaches to practicing the Mastery of Wood Escape. One was to root the ’grass’ in the ’earth’, while the other was to plant a ’seed’ and wait for grass to sprout from the ’earth’.
The two methods were conceptual opposites, but their ultimate goal was the same: to combine grass and earth, creating a powerful Life Power.
If they could cultivate this Life Power, they could later infuse it with toxins or other elements, allowing the Pet Beast to follow various different evolutionary paths.
For the remainder of their lunch break, the two Pet Beasts focused on their Cultivation. There was no more room for instruction, so Gu Ming fell silent.
The corner grew quiet. Lu You picked at her food, feeling the atmosphere had become a little stifling.
Despite her social anxiety, she wanted to liven things up and not just sit there in silence.
Her thoughts drifted to the sudden event from earlier that day, and she took the initiative to ask, "Gu Ming, did you see the Hall of the Great Dao?"
Gu Ming hesitated for a moment before nodding.
"That’s incredible. I wonder which teacher managed to innovate a Cultivation Technique." As Lu You spoke, she suddenly remembered that Gu Ming’s research paper had become a hot topic on campus.
’What a coincidence for both things to happen on the same day.’
’And on top of that, Gu Ming was guiding her hamster in practicing a brand-new Cultivation Technique... no, wait, it was two techniques now.’
’Before, it was the Earth Element Technique, but they weren’t practicing that anymore. Now it was an unnamed technique with a similar principle, also of the Earth Attribute.’
’If he were to give that technique a name, maybe it would trigger the appearance of the Hall of the Great Dao.’
Lu You didn’t know what level of innovation was required to summon the Hall of the Great Dao, but from her perspective, this new Cultivation Technique already integrated the Breathing Technique with Mana manipulation.
And it wasn’t as simple as just combining two features. The Earth Shifting Technique could not only "shift earth," but also move various energies and even physical substances within the body, such as Blood Qi or Mana.
"Could it be... the one Mouse Treasure is practicing right now?" she couldn’t help but guess aloud.
