Beast-Tamer: Limitless Evolution-Chapter 111: Surprise!
Chapter 111: Surprise!
Surprise!
"What do you reckon?" Mrs Jane looked up and saw Simon standing next to her, his eyes trained on the screen where Osho and his group were as they moved through the exam area.
Mrs Jane regarded him for a moment before shrugging.
"I’m pretty sure they can do it. I’m also of the opinion that doing it as a group makes far more sense than Osho doing it on his own. I have no doubt in my mind that he believes he could do it on his own but acknowledges that it would be far more difficult to do so, especially considering that doing it on his own would mean brute forcing it, and that would be far more dangerous than having a viable plan with a group to help carry it out." Hearing this, Simon nodded.
"I agree somewhat. I also like that he’s making use of the materials gotten from other beasts and taking full advantage of the abilities everyone possesses, not just going in guns blazing and hoping for the best. Seems like some of your resourcefulness transferred to him." He teased at the end, and Mrs Jane gave him a strange look.
"... What?" Simon asked, noticing her gaze.
"... Nothing, I just think that the sound of you teasing is weird."
Simon: ( -_・)?
"What do you mean by that?" He pressed and she proceeded to ignore him.
"Wha- Hey!"
___
It took a bit over thirty minutes for the group to arrive at their destination. As soon as they reached the edges of the swamp, Osho motioned for them to stop.
"Blackie and I will be the only ones who can get somewhat close to the thing. Its Mana sense is no joke." Osho said in a hushed tone as the group crouched. The ground was already taking on the properties of a marshland, and it wouldn’t take long for them to arrive in the truly swampy area.
They all locked eyes and nodded.
Sugil took control of the crystal bottles and took flight, as soon as she did that Kurt and Osho scaled one of the trees and unwound the tongue of the frog. This spot hadn’t been picked randomly but got selected due to its increased Elevation, that, and the tree had a shape that eerily resembled a slingshot.
The boys tied the tree while Ellie escorted Irene and Sam closer to the edges of where it truly started to become swampy.
From their vantage point, Osho and Kurt could see the congregation of Alligators just moving around lazily. They would occasionally splash about, but they seemed content to just remain stationary.
That was about to change.
The first phase of the plan included drawing out the Alligators on the outer parts of the congregation. These were, naturally, the weakest ones, and would be pulled away and hunted.
As for how they would do that? Well...
REE!
Gale fearlessly flew to the edge of the congregation and pretty plainly taunted the Alligators, flying at a low altitude so that if any of them got close, they could easily reach up to snatch the bird out of the sky.
This caught the attention of about 5 Alligators, and they were soon snapped out of their lazy states as their eyes sharpened, and in a few short moments, they were scrambling forward, trying to eat the bird.
Gale naturally had no issues evading the Alligators that sent out water spouts to try and shoot him down and he slowly led them away from the rest of the group towards the outer edges of the swamp.
It was only when they got close to the land that they started slowing down and realizing that something was wrong, but it was too late by then.
Each of the alligators were suddenly pressed down by an unseen pressure, Gale using his sky domain to increase the atmospheric pressure on them significantly.
As soon as he did this, a black figure suddenly hopped off the land onto one of the alligators and sliced into its neck a few times before killing it.
This got repeated a couple times until all the alligators were dead.
With that done, the corpses were pulled out of the water, and Gale went on to pull in the next group.
___
It took almost two hours for the remaining Alligators to finally realize that something was wrong.
In that time, nearly half of all the alligators had been killed, the strategy of Gale luring some away for them to get killed repeating itself numerous times.
Osho had ensured that everyone’s beast killed some of the alligators to accumulate a decent amount of points. Leaving no one behind.
But now, their cover had finally been blown.
The leading Alligator let out a powerful bellow as its underlings immediately went out to search for the cause of the issue. However, they didn’t go too far before an issue arose.
All of a sudden, many of the alligators began thrashing, and one would be able to see parts of their skin beginning to almost melt, as though the water itself had turned volatile.
And it had.
Sugil had gone to deposit the bottles of poison into the swamp not long before the Alligators noticed that something was off.
They hadn’t detected it due to the dark Mana acting to obscure its presence.
Its effects were naturally diluted as it diffused into the water, but were still palpable as it made the surrounding swamp water volatile and harmful to everything inside of it.
As such, the area which was meant to be the Alligators’ home and give them an advantage had been turned against them.
’It’s show time.’ Osho thought as he brought his fingers to his lips.
WHISTLE
A loud whistle that was enhanced by Mana sound through the area, catching the attention of most of the Alligators as they turned to see Osho standing in a open area near the swamp water.
They let out angry sounds as they immediately ascertained him to be the cause of everything that was going on, but before they could do anything about it, a projectile suddenly surged forward and embedded itself into one of the Apprentice rank Alligators. It let out a pained roar and its brethren immediately rushed forward to protect it.
Before many could, though, numerous crystal spikes suddenly shot out of the water and impaled many of the weaker Alligators, bringing them into the air. A moment later, something flashed by and all their heads fell off.
The spikes were Sugil’s doing, but there was no way for her to create spikes that far out.
Which was why the snake was under the water.
She slithered across the swamp floor with a barrier of crystal protecting her from the volatile water. Immediately after making several alligator-shaped pedestals, she creates numerous crystal platforms that floated on the surface of the water.
With this, Blackie, who had been waiting on the land, had several platforms to operate. The black cat surged forward like a black dot as she jumped from platform to platform until she reached where the alligators were.
One might wonder if sending Blackie forward in a place that clearly lacked shadows was a good idea. After all, the feline was a bit of a glass cannon, and excelled at stealth attacks.
But here’s the thing. Blackie was EXTREMELY agile.
So much so that, other than Gale, the Beast most likely had the most agility on the ground out of everyone in their group.
As such, once she got close enough to the alligators using the platforms Sugil created and the alligators started attacking her, she started doing with a grace that only felines could muster.
Not just dodging, but also attacking she didn’t solely rely on the platforms as she jumped from alligator to alligators, slashing with her claws as she moved about.
Now, this was just Blackie. What about the others?
Well, Inagi stayed at the edge of the water, her claws dipped into the water as he constantly pumped out poison into the swamp.
The monitor lizard had actually been at this for a while. Mostly because his poison wasn’t potent enough to affect the swamp in a short time. So almost immediately after reaching the swamp, Inagi has been alternating between injecting poison into the water and killing the alligators Gale brought.
Right now, though, Irene and Inagi had focused their attention on this task as they focused their Mana on releasing as much Mana as possible.
As for Clyde and Gale.
A powerful sonic wave fired downwards and engulfed several alligators, blowing the water apart and severely injuring, to downright killing the weaker ones caught in the attack.
Right now, Gale held up the fennec fox with his talons and flew around. With Clyde still having limited control over that particular sonic attack, allowing him to send them from above seemed to be the best choice at the moment. Moreover, Gale told Osho that he could carry Clyde without losing much of his combat ability.
Something that was made apparent as wind blades rained from above.
Just like that, the fight had entered full swing.
