Bear School Astartes-Chapter 674 - 677. Starbase
Following Little Jack through various not-so-spacious passages, it was apparent that these passages were selected to prevent large monsters from invading easily.
The final destination was a gate that matched the style of the hunters in this world very well.
Three pairs of ivory-like, but at least ten-meter-long monster bone materials formed three arches.
Bright red streamers were tied on them.
It had a primitive and wild feeling.
Aibo and Wende were already waiting here.
Just like when they first met, they waved their hands from afar, greeting Little Jack and Lann.
It seemed like they were never not lively.
And behind the three bone arches, seemingly for enhancing the deterrent effect in the eyes of monsters, was the base established by humans in the new continent.
"Great! You escaped from the jaws of the Barbaric Jaws Dragon intact, Lann! So impressive!"
Aibo cheered as she approached Lann. Wende, behind her, opened his mouth without words but still gave a thumbs up.
"He didn’t ’escape’ from the Barbaric Jaws Dragon’s mouth. When I went to assist earlier, Lann was almost disassembling the dragon’s hip bone! So clean and efficient!"
Little Jack remarked with a sigh, patting Lann on the arm... although his initial target was the shoulder, but he couldn’t reach it.
"Wow..."
Aibo’s reaction matched her straightforward and outgoing character.
"Isn’t that even more~ amazing!"
Lann, rarely feeling a bit shy, turned his head away and coughed.
Are these people from a hot-blooded comic? Their reactions are so exaggerated!
But it’s obvious that they’re not intentionally being melodramatic, nor are they exaggerating their expressions for sarcastic ridicule; they’re genuinely expressing their feelings, albeit straightforwardly.
The people here seem to express emotions very directly, without any concealment or roundabout ways... so does that make me the one out of place?
Lann thought to himself.
"Alright, since the recommendation team has arrived safely, let’s head in. The rest of the Fifth Period Team has been waiting for a long time."
Little Jack strode towards the gate, beckoning the others to follow.
Upon entering the base, you get the feeling of returning from the primitive jungle to human society.
People wearing what the hunters call ’civilian clothes’ moved back and forth, mostly carrying several large boxes on their shoulders or in their hands.
And judging from these boxes, they were either ores or other seemingly heavy items. But most of these people were slightly panting while completing the carrying.
Some were even wearing full armor, moving things without a red face or panting.
The people in this base have frighteningly high average quality.
And the scene inside the base isn’t particularly special,
though it’s integrated with nature, the shock from nature is much greater after just traversing the ancient tree forest.
This place seems to have been built out of several large ships, dismantled to serve as the basis for construction.
The decks served as floors, and there was even a large ship lying horizontally on the mountain the base leaned against, positioned so high, it’s uncertain how it was placed there.
The artisans in the base were very inventive, utilizing the waterfall from the mountain they leaned against as a power source, setting up an inclined cableway for convenient movement.
From the ship lodged at the highest point to the lowest material transfer area, the vertical distribution was also fully utilized.
The ’black smoke from smelting steel’ Wende saw from the sky came from the second level.
"The New Continent Expedition Team Base — Starcrest. Welcome."
Little Jack opened his arms, and in a very proud tone, embraced the three.
Aibo shouted with joy and ran in, looking around curiously.
Wende and Lann walked leisurely.
"A cat... a cat?"
Lann suddenly tilted his head, uncertainly saying something.
Only to see in front of him and Wende, a large orange cat, standing on two feet like a human, wearing cat-style outdoor vests and beret...
As if suddenly finding a target, it meowed and ran on all fours towards Wende.
And with a ’meow’, it dashed into Wende’s arms, and this muscular, short-haired man, as if holding a plush toy, rubbed the cat inside his arms vigorously.
"Wendemeow! I thought something happened to you guys meow!"
The big orange cat meowed as it spoke.
"The cat... talked?!"
Lann blinked incredulously and quietly formed a hand seal, letting Chaos Magic Power emit a slight glow at his fingertip.
But the talking big orange cat didn’t react at all.
Cats are very sensitive to Chaos Magic Power, and untrained cats instinctively go wild, fluff up, or run away when approaching a Demon Hunter or Warlock.
Which means it’s not a cat but an intelligent race of this world?
To be honest... it’s a bit cute!
"Meow? Wende! You can’t speak?! This is bad, Aibo! Wende has become mute meow!"
The big orange cat shouted, trying to pry open Wende’s mouth and peek inside with its head.
The big orange cat’s fur was smooth and shiny, and Wende, surprisingly, couldn’t pull it away for a moment.
Until Aibo ran back, pulling the big orange cat by the waist, taking away its cat head that was eager to peek into Wende’s mouth.
"Don’t worry, Gaffi. Wende just got his throat choked up by smoke, a few days of rest, and he’ll be fine."
Under Aibo’s soothing, the big orange cat, who seemed very worried about Wende, didn’t continue to insist on checking his throat.
And with Aibo’s return, two more people came along.
An elderly man with dark skin wearing hunters’ civilian clothes, with only a hunting knife that could be a short sword for ordinary people and no other weapons.
It’s clear that he’s not of a black race; he’s just been tanned too dark. His white beard was neatly groomed, and his white hair was a neat buzz cut.
Though not young, he still had an aura of swift and decisive energy.
Little Jack naturally stood beside him, seemingly indicating this was Old Jack, the Commander-in-Chief of the expedition team.
And the other person was clad in tightly-sealed armor, looking similar to knight armor. But a large portion of the armor was made with green biological scales and spines.
On his back, he carried a long sword likely made from the same creature as the scales and spines on the armor.
The sword was really long, yet not thick or heavy. Judging from his height of about 1.8 meters, the sword must have at least been 2.2 meters long.
These people’s weaponry... indeed seems fully prepared for large creatures.
The Commander-in-Chief first nodded to Wende and Aibo. With such a demeanor, even a nod of acknowledgment would be seen as serious.
But it also appeared dignified.
"The recommendation team’s safety is truly good news. Truth be told, before you arrived, I didn’t have a favorable impression of you since you kept the entire Fifth Period Team waiting at the port for a week. Just to wait for you to settle."
"But now it seems... getting through the ancient tree forest unequipped does indicate you’re worthy of this attention."
"Anyway, welcome to the Starcrest base, recommendation team."
The Commander-in-Chief nodded to Wende and Aibo, and both gave their responses.
Then, the Commander’s gaze turned to Lann, standing aside.
