The next team to be awarded was the Yin Yang Knights. Most people cheered for them. However, even then, it wasn’t as loud as that of the Shizi Dogs.

Dylan looked around the court with wide eyes.

"What the heck?" he muttered. "Are we more popular than the Knights now?"

Shang sighed. "I should have still been part of the team! Look at them taking pictures of the Dogs. Who knows? I might get a girlfriend if my photo is also posted online."

The second-string team turned to Shang with judging eyes before shaking their heads.

"That’s definitely not happening," Tony chimed.

"And that’s it for the group awards!" Mark exclaimed. "For now, we shall move on to the individual awards."

With Mark’s announcement, the people started discussing who was going to take home the ’MVP’ award.

"No doubt—it’s Max," Dylan said. "He still scored the most points out of all the players in the city."

"Are you sure about that?" Bao asked.

Dylan frowned. "Yes?" he said, sounding quite unsure.

"I don’t think that’s the case," Bao smiled. "Kai has scored so much this year that it’s ridiculous."

Dylan, Tony, and Sunny turned to each other with knowing smiles.

"Well, Kai’s award is already set in stone."

Bao, as well as the other first-years, looked at them with confusion.

"What do you mean?" Alen asked.

"Just watch," Dylan said. "He’ll definitely get an award."

"First, let us start with the rookie MVP award!" Mark said. "This award is given to the most valuable player among those who are in their first year of playing."

Qiang straightened his spine and waited for his name to be called. He won the rookie MVP award during the Winter Cup, after all.

However, he was snapped back to reality when he realized that they were eliminated first in this league. With that, he sighed and slumped his shoulders.

Meanwhile, Zeren also expected something. However, Kexin was quick to break his delusions.

"Don’t even think about it, bud," he said. "You still have a long way to go."

Jinping was also expecting it to be him.

"It’s me," he said to Kai. "It’s definitely me. Wait and see."

Kai smirked and shook his head. Deep inside, he already knew who was going to be the final winner.

"We have Kai Guo from the Shizi Dogs!" Mark announced, and the gym erupted into cheers.

Jinping turned to him with wide eyes while Kai remained smirking.

"It’s me," he smiled. With that, he started walking to the stage.

Once again, it felt surreal—just as when the Shizi Dogs received their silver trophy.

However, Kai had expected it. If he didn’t get such an award, then he would reckon that the awards system was rigged.

"Kai Guo, despite being a first-year student, has faced older and more experienced opponents with the ease of a master," Mark introduced. "He’s also one of my favorite players to watch."

Kai smiled at Mark’s statement.

"Congratulations, Kai," Mr. Hei said as he placed the medal around his neck. Kai leaned down to help the shorter man.

With that, he faced the camera with a smile, feeling elated.

He was once again a step closer to his goal.

As he got his photos taken, the cheers for him didn’t stop—most of them coming from his fangirls.

"Kai, you’re so handsome!"

"Kai, I’ll see you in the Nationals!"

"He’s so hot," Suzy muttered, but Sir Dao was still able to hear her.

The old man clicked his tongue and glared at his daughter.

However, Suzy shrugged, standing by her word.

Meanwhile, Lina wholeheartedly clapped for him with a wide smile. There was a slight blush on her cheeks, still remembering what happened in the infirmary. But the awkwardness she was feeling was outweighed by her proudness of the young player.

Kai held onto the medal as he made his way back to the line. He made eye contact with some of his notable opponents in the process, making him smile even wider.

Max appeared proud of Kai. However, his eyes also held a glint of competition—as if he was saying that he earned that award last year, too.

Chunlei, on the other hand, clapped in acknowledgment. He had expected it already.

Zeren looked away from Kai, avoiding his gaze.

Meanwhile, Qiang held his gaze with narrowed eyes.

Kai couldn’t help but chuckle and shake his head in amusement.

As he made his way back to the line, Jinping scoffed at him. However, after a while, the sulky player turned around and held out his hand.

Kai raised one of his eyebrows in inquiry.

Jinping clicked his tongue. "Congrats," he said through gritted teeth.

Kai smiled and took his hand before giving it a firm squeeze. Jinping felt pain shoot up his arm, but he held it in, not wanting to show Kai that he was hurt by his grip.

"Thanks," Kai smiled. "You should have worked harder," he teased.

With that, Jinping rolled his eyes and focused his gaze on the front once more.

After a couple more awards, it was finally time for the announcement of the overall MVP.

"And this year’s overall MVP is none other than…," Mark started off.

Kai felt hope swell in his heart. However, he also knew that it was too soon for him to get such an award.

Max had been unbeatable ever since, and although Kai hadn’t kept track of his points, he was sure that he still scored more than him.

"Max Zhou!" Mark finally revealed.

Kai nodded in acceptance and clapped for his greatest opponent. For a moment, Max glanced at him with a small smirk, causing Kai to shake his head in amusement.

"That’s our boy!" Fabin exclaimed. "MVP two years in a row!"

The crowd cheered for their golden boy, already aware of his skills.

Max smiled as he made his way onto the stage.

Just then, Mark brought the microphone to his lips once more.

"And," he started off, making the crowd and the players look at him in confusion.

"And?" Dylan muttered. "He’s not done yet."

"There’s another one?"

"We have two MVPs this year?"

Mark smiled and let the word hang in the air, creating suspense.

Then, he finally spoke, answering the crowds’ queries.

"Kai Guo!"
