Back To The 90s: The Resilient Daughter-In-Law-Chapter 1912 - 1930: Finally Confessing (Part 5)
"Commander, we’re not so poor that we can’t afford cigarettes, are we?" A young fellow couldn’t help but retort.
The rest of the crowd looked at the young man gloatingly, thinking, he’s really too young!
"Oh, is that so?" Huo Beijiang gave him a once-over.
The young man felt guilty under his gaze, but fortunately, Ning Di threw him a look, and he quickly reacted by shaking his head like a rattle drum, "Commander, I misspoke. I’m really poor, but we already bought these things, it’s just the good intention of our team’s sister-in-law."
Who ever visits a patient empty-handed? Besides, there’s no logic in buying things and then taking them back!
The young man’s family conditions were quite good, never having experienced poverty, so he couldn’t understand the situation of most people from rural backgrounds. However, Huo Beijiang did know; although he had spent money lavishly from a young age, he had lived in the countryside for about ten years and understood.
Therefore, he never accepted gifts from subordinates, not even fruits or supplements. When going out to eat or for gatherings in the army, Lu Jin or Ning Di always handled the bill. These two were in charge of his personal finances.
Later, he handed over his wallet to his wife, but his wife was generous and never accepted it after the first time. He wanted to continue handing it over, but due to several separations and missions, he never found the opportunity.
However, his wife probably knew that his salary wasn’t enough to cover his cigarette expenses.
"Alright! Enough!" Ning Di, knowing the boss’s rules, told everyone to drop the subject and to take the gifts back the way they came after visiting the patient.
Seeing Ning Di say so, everyone reluctantly agreed. They truly didn’t spend much, just a token of goodwill.
Nan Fei, sitting on the bed, couldn’t help but smile happily as she listened to the chatter outside. This was the real Huo Beijiang, the one she liked, admired, and adored.
"Swoosh!" The door of the room was pushed open, and a group of big guys walked in somewhat awkwardly. Upon seeing the sister-in-law sitting on the hospital bed, they felt even more embarrassed.
"Please have a seat, everyone." Nan Fei took the initiative to greet them.
Fortunately, the room was spacious enough that even with a dozen people, it didn’t feel crowded. Nan Fei had had little contact with Bei Jiang’s comrades before, so it was a good opportunity for everyone to get introduced to each other while visiting her.
Seeing that although the sister-in-law was young, she spoke with poise and class, and sincerely respected everyone, the whole group naturally felt happy.
Compared to the relaxed atmosphere in the room, outside was tense and full of conflict, and with Wei Fangyi and Jiang Yang coming over from the cafeteria, it escalated to a battlefield.
Before Yu Fengji and Huo Beijiang had a chance to talk, Jiang Yang came over and gave Huo Beijiang an unsatisfied glare.
"Morning, brother-in-law!" Huo Beijiang greeted with a smile, as if he hadn’t noticed the glare. Just a moment ago, his face was sullen while talking to Yu Fengji, and now he was all sunshine, switching moods faster than flipping a book.
"Who’s your brother-in-law?" Jiang Yang retorted, "Don’t forget you’ve divorced my sister. You two have no relation now. I suggest you leave the hospital immediately and don’t appear in front of my sister, or I’ll report you to your unit for misconduct."
Currently, Jiang Yang really didn’t like Huo Beijiang.
This was because the man was too irresponsible, making his sister travel all the way to a dangerous place like Kannaya. Previously, he could barely tolerate him as a brother-in-law, but now the dislike was overwhelming.
