Back To The 80s-Chapter 362 - 372: Bodyguard_1
Lu Zhanguo squatted down with Xiaopang next to a dog that looked relatively gentle. He stroked the fur on its neck and said, "Dahuang, this is Xiaopang. From now on, you are to protect Xiaopang and don’t let anyone bully her." He even let Xiaopang touch Dahuang’s ears and neck. Xiaopang was so excited that she laughed out loud. She grabbed Dahuang’s ears firmly and pulled them towards her. Dahuang’s teeth were bared and he grimaced, but he remained still, not moving at all. He must be thinking: This future little owner is not to be messed with.
Lu Zhanguo then carried Mo Wang to another dog and squatted down, repeating the same actions, and said, "Dabing, take a good sniff, this is Mo Wang. From now on, you are responsible for protecting Mo Wang." Mo Wang squinted at Dabing with a smile but didn’t reach out to touch Dabing, as if his curiosity was a bit less than Xiaopang’s.
Not until then did Lu Zhanguo stand up and say to Lu Songyuan and the others, "From now on these two dogs will follow you. Unless you and my mother agree, outsiders cannot approach Xiaopang and Mo Wang."
Wen Xiuqing expressed some concern, "Will they bite? What if someone was just teasing the children and got scared?"
Lu Zhanguo explained, "They won’t bite easily, unless someone intends to harm the children or if they encounter real bad guys. Then they will bite to kill."
Lu Songyuan said with great interest, "These are military dogs that have been trained rigorously for a long period. They are even smarter than a seven or eight-year-old child. So don’t worry, with them around, no one will dare to harm our two children."
Seeing everyone chatting for a while and the two dogs always lying on the ground without moving, Gu Xiaobei also started to like them, especially as they could certainly protect the two children. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Dahuang and Dabing became the new members of this family. When Ji Xiangdong and Bai Xiaolan came over for a meal and saw the two dogs, they thought the setup was good, as anyone with bad intentions wouldn’t be able to get close to the children.
Bai Xiaolan pulled Gu Xiaobei to one side and whispered, "Next time you see Lu Ruixue, let Dahuang bite her." A couple of days ago she came to know about Xiaopang being pinched from Wen Xiuqing. She saw the bruises on Xiaopang’s leg and was furious. A child’s skin is tender, so when it’s pinched, the bruise really stands out and is an eyesore.
Gu Xiaobei also said with anger, "Definitely, and from now on even if she begs me on her knees, I will not forgive her. I am such a narrow-minded person, let alone she had the audacity to attack my child."
Bai Xiaolan nodded and said, "Right, she’s so vicious. If you have complaints, address them to adults. What’s the point in targeting a child? And that Chen Dajun too - as soon as I come across him, I’ll beat him up so bad he’ll be crippled. Lu Ruixue is originally a brainless person, and now she has this thing stirring up trouble behind her back."
Gu Xiaobei laughed and said, "Alright, I am not angry anymore, you shouldn’t be either. In future, we will just watch how miserable they become."
After dinner, Bai Xiaolan went for a walk with Ji Xiangdong by the Yellow River. The two of them always went for a walk there after dinner, then returned to the dormitory.
Unable to contain herself any longer, Bai Xiaolan posed a question, "I want to beat up Chen Dajun. Do you have any objections?"
Ji Xiangdong smiled and nodded, "He definitely deserves a beating, but you don’t need to do it yourself. Someone else will take care of him."
Bai Xiaolan was confused and asked doubtfully, "Who will take care of him?"
"Zhanguo wouldn’t let him go unscathed. If it hadn’t been for Xiaopang, Zhanguo definitely wouldn’t have bothered with him. But because of what happened to Xiaopang, Zhanguo will definitely make Chen Dajun miserable. If Lu Ruixue doesn’t awaken to reality after that, then she is truly beyond hope," he responded.
Having not much feeling for his sister, Ji Xiangdong felt mistakes should come with their due retribution; and knowing Zhanguo’s temper and character, Zhanguo always seemed to empathize with him, possibly because they were twins. Moreover, should such a thing happen to him, if someone dared to harm Ji Xiangdong’s child, he would probably be even more ruthless and make sure the other party would be irreparably damaged.
Bai Xiaolan nodded, not entirely understanding. But in her mind, she was still determined not to let Chen Dajun off the hook. And, Lu Ruixue better not cross her path, because she wasn’t about to tolerate a brainless person as her sister-in-law.
Indeed, Ji Xiangdong was right in his guess. Originally, Lu Zhanguo had instructed Shen Heng to arrest Chen Dajun as soon as he had enough evidence against him. But now he had instructed him to let Chen Dajun dig his hole a little deeper, ideally a large one, then act. This would ensure that he would never be able to turn his life around, or at the very least, he would rot in prison.
Now that Gu Xiaobei had some time, she roamed around with Qin Li looking for a suitable place to set up a warehouse. Currently, no one was building private warehouses for rent, so they looked around and Qin Li worriedly said, "It seems there isn’t a suitable one. Xiaobei, how about we find a courtyard with a few rooms and use that as a warehouse?"
At first, Gu Xiaobei had been looking for a warehouse according to her ideal specifications. Now it seemed that wasn’t an option. But to use a courtyard, apart from the issues of dampness and humidity, rats could also be a problem.
After thinking for a while, Gu Xiaobei said, "Let’s rent the storefront first. If we still can’t find a suitable warehouse, we will do as you suggested and find a courtyard."
The provincial city had just built a large wholesale market for agricultural and sideline products. Many people were just watching from the sidelines. Gu Xiaobei took a look around – although these agricultural and sideline products had nothing to do with the food and textiles they planned to sell, the government was currently focused in promoting this wholesale market and there would be more people in the future. More importantly, the first year’s rent was exempted.
After looking around the food zone, Gu Xiaobei said to Qin Li, "Let’s rent out three stores. After all, the first year is rent-free. We’ll expand our stall a bit."
Qin Li nodded. She had no opinion and followed Gu Xiaobei’s advice. Gu Xiaobei then added, "We have no money right now, so the first two years will be tough. But we can definitely make money. Once we have money, we will transition to doing other things."
They asked the staff at the market office, who said they wanted to rent a store, they first had to sign up here, then go through an assessment. Once passed, they could go to the Development and Reform Commission to get the head, Zhan Hezhi, to stamp it.
Gu Xiaobei didn’t quite understand how this matter was under the jurisdiction of the Development and Reform Commission, but as soon as she heard Zhan Hezhi’s name she felt nauseated, to summit directly to this adulterous man.
After signing up and grabbing a bunch of forms that needed to be stamped in the office, Gu Xiaobei looked around, musing that this was a characteristic of this era.
Seeing that it was getting late, Gu Xiaobei said to Qin Li, "You go home first, and we’ll go get the stamp tomorrow."
Qin Li was still worried and asked, "Should I give you the money?"
Gu Xiaobei waved her hand with a smile, "No rush. I’ll ask for it when we need it."
The two parted ways, and Gu Xiaobei went home to look after the two children. On the way, at the vegetable market, she bought a pound of meat and a piece of tofu, and then hurried home. She didn’t notice Xiangmin, who she brushed past at the market, mainly because Xiangmin had changed so much, she didn’t recognize her.
Xiangmin saw Gu Xiaobei, who although dressed plainly, could not hide the happiness on her face. Xiangmin looked at herself, now thin as a sheet of paper with a waxen yellow complexion without any luster, and couldn’t help but lower her head out of self-consciousness and hurriedly left.
