Back To The 80s-Chapter 301 - 311: Solution (Additional Updates for 740 Monthly Tickets)_1
Lu Ruixue said nothing, just stood there sobbing quietly.
Lu Aiguo ran his hands through his hair in agitation, pulled at Lu Ruixue’s arm and said, "You better run back to your own Chen family to cry, if you come here to make trouble next time, bring that useless person with you, let’s have a riot together." He bent down to pick up Lu Ruixue’s cotton coat, stuffing it into her arms, then shoved her towards the door.
Wen Xiuqing watched Lu Ruixue and Lu Aiguo leave from the door, sighed, and went back to her bedroom.
Gu Xiaobei looked at Lu Zhanguo and whispered, "Is Mom okay?"
"She’s fine. Let’s take the kids upstairs first," Lu Zhanguo said gloomily.
The two of them went upstairs, put the kids on bed then Lu Zhanguo said, "My elder brother didn’t really die back then, but now, I don’t know where he is."
Gu Xiaobei took hold of him, suppressed the shock in her heart, and gently consoled, "It’s good news that he didn’t die. No matter where he is, it means he’s still alive. Maybe you’ll meet him one day."
Lu Zhanguo nodded, "Let’s not tell Mom about this for now, it’ll give her another unnecessary worry. I’ll find someone to investigate it."
Gu Xiaobei felt that finding a person was harder than finding a needle in a haystack, given the lack of information, and the fact that household registries weren’t networked. Many people didn’t even have a household registration, so where would they start?
Seeing Gu Xiaobei frowning, Lu Zhanguo touched her small face and said, "Alright, don’t think too much. As you said, as long as he’s alive, everything’s fine."
"I hate Qin Ximei. If it weren’t for her, you wouldn’t have had such an unhappy childhood." Gu Xiaobei pouted, lamenting that ten thousand cuts would be too kind for Qin Ximei.
Lu Zhanguo embraced Gu Xiaobei, patting her back and said, "I’m fine now. If I hadn’t gone through what I had as a child, maybe I wouldn’t have met you, right?"
Delighted to hear Lu Zhanguo say something tender for a change, Gu Xiaobei leaned back to kiss Lu Zhanguo’s thin lips.
Just as Gu Xiaobei’s lips touched Lu Zhanguo’s, a gentle voice sounded from nearby, "Ah~ oh~"
Gu Xiaobei was stunned, having forgotten about the little audience around them. Turning her head, she saw Mob Wang and Xiaopang sitting nearby, their tiny mouths wide open, making "ah" sounds, and drool hanging from the corners of their mouths. Their large eyes were sparkling, watching their parents.
Looking at his embarrassed young wife in his arms and the two adorable kids, Lu Zhanguo couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Gu Xiaobei too, couldn’t restrain a laugh. She picked up Mo Wang, gave him a big hug and a loving kiss saying, "You two little rascals."
Seeing that he was being left out, Xiaopang also wanted to come over. With his chubby little body, one roll left him stuck in place, flailing around; his little face turning red from the effort.
Gu Xiaobei couldn’t help but laugh as she put Mo Wang aside and picked up Xiaopang, "And you too. Come on, Mama gives you a kiss too." Saying this, she kissed Xiaopang’s face, making him giggling in delight.
Looking at the three of them laughing and playing on the bed, Lu Zhanguo’s feelings were somewhat complex. He thought about his elder brother’s situation, where should he start to investigate?
Wen Xiuqing didn’t come out for lunch again, and also refused the meal Li Auntie brought to her room.
Both Lu Zhanguo and Lu Aiguo seemed preoccupied, eating in a distracted manner.
Gu Xiaobei sighed inwardly, feeling troubled with all the issues going on in the family. They hadn’t resolved the issue with the eldest of the Lu family, yet Lu Ruixue was causing trouble every day.
Gu Xiaobei got some bibs for Xiaopang and Mo Wang, preparing to feed some steamed, soft and tender egg custard. The two little ones loved it and after finishing their share, they would smack their lips for a long time.
Looking at Gu Xiaobei feeding the egg custard to the kids, Lu Aiguo asked after a while, "Xiaobei, are you interested in starting a business together?"
Gu Xiaobei was surprised, and asked with some confusion, "Why would you suddenly ask that?"
Lu Aiguo smiled and said, "That day, when I heard you talk about business, it seemed like you know a lot about it. I thought, we could all make some money together. Relying only on my brother’s salary to raise two kids is quite hard."
Gu Xiaobei knew that Lu Aiguo had good intentions, but starting a business together was not as simple as that. After a bit of thought, she said, "This is a good idea, but your brother and I aren’t in Capital City, so it wouldn’t be fair."
Lu Aiguo was savvy, seeing Gu Xiaobei reply like this, he knew Gu Xiaobei had her own ideas. He asked with a smile, "So, what’s your thinking?"
"A partnership in business can easily hurt relationships. As the saying goes, it’s easy to conquer but hard to maintain power. It is the same with the partnership in business. When the business is stable, problems may arise. I don’t want our brotherly relationship to be tarnished by money." After feeding Xiaopang, Gu Xiaobei wiped his mouth clean with a handkerchief, then slowly said.
Lu Ai Guo was stunned for a moment. His initial intention was just to make money together but he hadn’t considered the potential complication.
Seeing the surprised Lu Aiguo, Gu Xiaobei continued, "So, we won’t meddle with your business. We don’t understand it anyway, and we would only make things complicated. Besides, I’m thinking of going back to the province to start something of my own, and I might need your help at that time."
Lu Aiguo immediately nodded, "Sure, just tell me if you need anything. Whether it’s for supplies or whatever, I can think of a solution." He pondered over Gu Xiaobei’s words, and indeed they made sense. If they earned profits it would be fine, but if they lost money, there would be opinions. And who among them could say with a straight face that they wouldn’t have ulterior motives when money was in question?
Before dinner, Lu Songyuan was home, surprisingly seeing Wen Xiuqing sitting on the couch holding Mo Wang, while Gu Xiaobei was helping Aunt Li prepare dinner in the kitchen.
Lu Songyuan asked excitedly, "What has happened?"
Lu Aiguo and Lu Zhanguo, who were playing chess while holding Xiaopang, heard Lu Songyuan’s question. Without lifting his head, Lu Aiguo said, "Nothing serious happened. If you don’t come home more often, your eldest grandson will start calling people ’grandpa’."
Lu Songyuan laughed and scolded, "You rascal! Can’t you say something nice? I’m just busy with work."
Wen Xiuqing was happier than ever, holding Mo Wang in her arms, radiating delight. She was gazing at Mo Wang trying to suck on his fingers, wiping the drool from his mouth with a napkin.
Both the kids were probably teething, their gums itchy. They would put anything they found into their mouths, drooling excessively and needing their bibs changed several times a day.
Lu Songyuan, seeing Wen Xiuqing so content, couldn’t help but feel relieved himself. He sat next to Wen Xiuqing and said, "It’s time to let it go."
With a small smile, Wen Xiuqing replied, "I’m trying my best. If you look at Mo Wang, you’ll know what our Yuan Chao looked like."
Lu Songyuan sighed. It seemed like Wen Xiuqing was moving on from one obsession to another, using Mo Wang as a substitute for their first son. Once Gu Xiaobei returned to the province, Wen Xiuqing would likely feel lost again.
But Wen Xiuqing seemed unaware of all this, still gently wiping Mo Wang’s mouth, and occasionally, the drool that dripped down.
