Back to the 1980s: Transmigrated as the Bigshot's Pampered Wife-Chapter 66: Capsizing in the Gutter
Gu Jiaojiao felt pain all over after she hit the ground. She lifted her head and looked.
Not far to her left, three adult wild boars had appeared at some point. They were baring their tusks, glaring at her menacingly.
Startled, she scrambled upright, her eyes widening as she stared at them. Her voice trembled as she spoke.
"M-Mr. Boars... Let’s just mind our own business. You go your way, I’ll go mine. Just pretend you never saw me and be on your way."
The wild boars looked at her with contempt. Baring their tusks, they let out excited squeals and began advancing on her, step by menacing step.
If anyone else had been there, they would have thought Gu Jiaojiao was scared stiff, sitting frozen on the ground.
But in reality, she was even more excited than the boars. She was just used to keeping a low profile, a habit she maintained even when no one was around.
From her space, she retrieved silver needles that had been soaked in an anesthetic potent enough to knock out a bull. She was ready to take down the wild boars.
Wild boars weren’t like other beasts. If not taken down in a single strike, they would fly into a rage and maul a person to death.
Gu Jiaojiao watched the three wild boars, her eyes betraying no fear or timidity. Instead, an odd smile played on her lips as she offered some well-intentioned advice.
"Gentlemen boars, don’t get so worked up. Slow down a little."
She called out with a sweet smile on her face.
Hearing her, the wild boars lifted their heads and stared at her with their wide, round eyes. It was hard to tell if they understood her words or were simply taken in by her smile.
Their steps faltered for a moment, and a flicker of confusion crossed their eyes, but they didn’t stop moving.
They didn’t charge, but continued their steady advance toward her.
’Their gazes seemed to say, *You tell me to slow down, so I’m just going to slow down? How embarrassing would that be!*’
"Mr. Boars... don’t come any closer. Don’t be in such a rush. I don’t mean to scare you, but if you take another step forward, you can’t blame me for getting a little rough."
She said with a grin, her expression utterly innocent and her tone even more sincere.
The wild boars continued to stare at her with contempt, looking as if they might tear her to shreds at any moment.
’They seem pretty insecure...’
Gu Jiaojiao sighed to herself. She flicked her wrist, and with a few soft WHOOSHES, the silver needles between her fingers flew out.
The wild boars stared at her in disbelief. Who knows if they were regretting their decision!
THUD, THUD, THUD.
The wild boars collapsed, not to rise again. Gu Jiaojiao stood up and brushed the dirt from her clothes. "I did warn you."
"Tsk, tsk... Each one must be around three hundred pounds. Looks like we’ll be eating well this New Year."
"Store."
The wild boars on the ground vanished as if they had never been there.
The unconscious boars remained unconscious inside her space. They wouldn’t wake up unless Gu Jiaojiao administered the antidote.
So, she wasn’t worried about the boars damaging the equipment in her space and could continue searching for herbs nearby with peace of mind.
And she really did manage to dig up some herbs that were both rare and precious in later eras.
After some time, Gu Jiaojiao glanced at her watch. It was already eleven o’clock.
Though she wished she could stay longer, she was worried about her dad digging for antiques all by himself.
So, Gu Jiaojiao entered her space and mentally planted the herbs she’d gathered. For now, there was no more empty ground.
With her basket also full of wild vegetables, she headed back the way she came, only to find her dad in a standoff with a man.
The man was staring at her father with a grim expression, his narrow, almond-shaped eyes glittering with vicious hatred.
’Well, now!’
’One look at my dad and you can tell he’s not some irredeemable villain. There’s no way this man could hate him.’
’Then what is that hatred aimed at?’
The man’s voice was hoarse, thick with menace and a threatening tone. "What gives you the right to dig these up?"
Mr. Gu was speechless. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
He came from a scholarly family. His life had been spent either reading or teaching. He was a man so weak he couldn’t even truss a chicken; how could he have ever encountered someone radiating such bloodlust!
Seeing Mr. Gu remain silent, a satisfied smile touched the man’s lips. Then, as if showing great mercy, he said,
"Leave the items and go. I’d rather not drag you to the police."
"Well, now! That’s a bold thing to say. Do you have any idea who you’re talking to?"
"Who?" the man asked instinctively.
"My father. He’s my father, and you can get lost." Gu Jiaojiao’s eyes were filled with a cold, cruel light.
’Where did this immortal come from? She’s gorgeous, absolutely beautiful.’
The man was stunned for a fraction of a second, but that was all it took for Gu Jiaojiao to get him under control.
Gu Jiaojiao struck the man’s acupoints. "What’s your name? Your granny here is in a good mood today, so I’ll spare you a trip to the police."
Furious that the man had frightened her father, she immediately threw his own words back at him.
Gu Jiaojiao had no real intention of taking him to the authorities. After all, her father was digging up priceless antiques.
Of course, anyone who didn’t know better would assume they were just common items. Just a few years ago, things like these were being destroyed without a second thought.
Now, there were specialty shops that would buy them, but only as common goods for extremely low prices.
For example, one yuan for a bowl, a few for a smoking pipe, or a dozen or so for a bracelet.
Yet these "common" items would be worth millions, or even tens of millions, in later eras.
Gu Jiaojiao had no desire to hand over the goods just to let off some steam. She could tell this man wanted to pocket them for himself.
Clearly, he knew what these items were worth. But this time, he had picked a fight he couldn’t win. Gu Jiaojiao was determined to teach him a lesson.
She’d make him remember that in a dog-eat-dog world, you can easily choke on your prey. And even if he didn’t choke to death, she’d make sure he lost a layer of skin.
The man was stunned to hear Gu Jiaojiao’s words. He was the black market kingpin of Feng’en County; he was always the one doing the threatening.
But now he was being threatened by a young woman. This was a classic case of getting blindsided.
’This shouldn’t be happening!’
’It doesn’t make any sense!’
Gao Xiangming couldn’t wrap his head around it. In less than a single exchange, he had been completely subdued by a delicate-looking young woman.
But he was a man who knew how to adapt to the situation. He immediately said, "My name is Gao Xiangming. I’m twenty-six and not yet married."
"I have an eighty-year-old grandmother to support, and a young nephew who’s still crying for his next meal..."
He went on and on, and for the most part, everything Gao Xiangming said was true.
By this time, some rural areas had already distributed farmland to individual households, but remote Feng’en County still practiced collective farming.
This was Dashan Village, an even more remote part of Feng’en County. They still practiced collective labor, where everyone worked together and work points were distributed based on one’s contribution.
For hundreds of years, the Gao family had been a prominent household in Feng’en County. As a result, both his grandmother and his mother had bound feet and couldn’t do farm work.
The men of the Gao family, accustomed to a life of privilege, would work themselves to exhaustion all day but still accomplish very little.
They couldn’t even keep up with an ordinary child, so they earned very few work points.
As a result, the Gao family never had enough to eat, which was why Gao Xiangming had learned to hunt from a young age.
This time, he had snuck into the mountains hoping to find some wild rabbits or pheasants.
Not long after entering the mountains, he’d spotted someone furtively digging at something, so he immediately moved closer to investigate.
’Good heavens, these are antiques!’
Everyone wants a piece of a good thing, which led to the scene Gu Jiaojiao had witnessed: Gao Xiangming threatening Mr. Gu.
Although he was a regular on the black market, he was a man with a clear sense of right and wrong.
He could see that Mr. Gu had also seen his share of hardship. He hadn’t intended to make things difficult, just to confiscate the goods and let him go.
But who could have known!!!
