Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Jianbing Guozi

Song Zijin shivered involuntarily. Something unpleasant churned in his stomach.

Sheng Xinglian thought he was overcome with passion for her. In truth, she didn’t mind getting more intimate with him at all.

After all, she had been married in her past life; she wasn’t some truly innocent eighteen-year-old girl. But Zijin never made any overly aggressive moves.

To maintain her own value, Sheng Xinglian couldn’t be too obvious in her seductions.

She only flirted with Song Zijin occasionally, giving him a little taste. But every time, she was the one who couldn’t hold back, while Zijin refused to taste the forbidden fruit.

"Zijin, let’s just have a simple bite today. We still have some time before our afternoon classes~ Hee hee~"

How could Song Zijin not understand her implication? Especially with that cloyingly sweet, honey-like giggle that seemed to melt his very bones.

The nausea he’d felt earlier was long forgotten, especially since Lian’er was the true heiress of the Sheng Family.

He certainly didn’t dare to offend the Sheng Family. In fact, Song Zijin couldn’t wait to go get intimate with her in the woods.

"Lian’er, you’re such an impatient little minx. Just you watch how I’ll deal with you later~"

"Stop it~ You’re making me lose my appetite~"

"But I’d hate for my Lian’er to go hungry. I’ll go buy you some meat buns."

"Zijin, you’re so good to me~"

And so, Song Zijin and Sheng Xinglian skipped lunch...

「At the Su family home」

Everyone ate their fill. Even Gu Jinghua, who had been on the verge of death, managed to eat half a bowl of rice.

When he had heard his foster sister’s words, his heart felt like it had been plunged into an ice cellar, frozen and cold.

His mind went blank, and he could only watch as he was consumed by a rage so intense it made him pass out.

He truly understood then that while the ways of the world are real, human feelings are the most fickle of all.

After the meal, Su Qinchun and Mr. Su deftly cleared the table, while Su’s mother started preparing for her food stall.

Gu Jiaojiao brewed a cup of tea for everyone, explaining it was a homemade health tea to cut through the grease and aid digestion after the meal.

In reality, it was a digestive tea, ready-made from her space.

At first, Uncle Dong didn’t think much of it. But after one sip, he was full of praise. He had never tasted such a delicious tea.

He recognized all the individual ingredients in the cup; they were quite common. But no one else would have combined them this way, and the taste was surprisingly good.

Old Sir Gu laughed heartily. ’This granddaughter of mine is truly something else.’ The bit of resentment he’d held toward Sheng Xinglian also dissipated.

"The Sheng Family raised my granddaughter well. After they unilaterally published a notice in the papers to sever ties, Jiaojiao still risked her life to save your adoptive mother."

"That debt of gratitude for raising her has been repaid. Besides, our Gu Family also gave Sheng Xinglian the very best."

"Jiaojiao, don’t have any psychological burden from now on. We don’t owe the Sheng Family anything. And you must never act so recklessly to save someone again."

"That’s right, Jiaojiao. We don’t owe the Sheng Family any favors anymore," Mrs. Gu said indignantly, holding her daughter’s hand.

But as she was still ill, she lacked strength, and her voice didn’t carry much anger.

Dong Qihua noticed his friend, Su Shuochi, was smiling constantly—not his usual polite and distant smile, but a genuine, heartfelt one.

Much of the gloom that had clung to him had dissipated. His whole demeanor seemed warmer, and his complexion was ruddy and glowing.

He asked curiously, "Su Shuochi, what kind of snacks are you guys planning to sell?"

The members of the Gu Family all looked at Su Shuochi and Gu Jiaojiao, clearly eager to know the answer.

Gu Jiaojiao knew they were just concerned for them, so she rattled off a long list as if reciting a list of treasures.

"We plan to sell liangpi, roujiamo, egg crepes, meat buns, vegetable buns, and pickled cabbage buns. We’ll have a different special every day of the week."

"First, I’ll make a jianbing guozi for you all to try. You can see how my skills are and if I can make money with them."

"Sister-in-law, you know how to make snacks?" Dong Qihua asked in disbelief.

He thought he was pretty familiar with the rumors about Gu Jiaojiao, but he’d never heard that she knew how to cook.

"My Jiaojiao’s cooking is delicious!" Su’s mother was Gu Jiaojiao’s number one fan.

"Then let me show you what I can do." Gu Jiaojiao didn’t waste any more words.

To make a jianbing guozi, the first step was to prepare the ingredients. She had everything in her space, so she pretended to go to the kitchen to get them.

Gu Jiaojiao was ready in no time. She teased, "Watch closely now. It’s time to witness a miracle."

Everyone played along, watching with keen anticipation.

Unhurried, Gu Jiaojiao mixed the batter and poured it onto a round griddle that was already giving off a little heat.

Using a small, hoe-like tool, she expertly spread it with a single turn. Under her skilled hands...

...the slightly yellow batter obediently formed a round crepe, resting gently on the griddle.

As the batter began to set, the surface of the crepe, glistening with a thin layer of oil, started to dance along with the SIZZLING droplets.

Gu Jiaojiao nodded in satisfaction at the sight of the lightly browning crepe. She picked up a drink bottle and shook the yellow liquid inside.

She casually lifted the edge of the large crepe with a single chopstick and squeezed the bottle, spraying oil underneath with a SIZZLE, SIZZLE.

With a loud WHOOSH, the oil instantly crackled, and the crepe’s skin became as translucent as jade in that moment.

The sound of the plastic bottle being squeezed mixed with the crackling of the oil, accompanied by a light, drifting fragrance.

Gu Jiaojiao took out two eggs from a box under the food stall. CRACK! Two eggs were spread open on top of the crepe.

Under the passionate heat, the eggs and the crepe embraced tightly. In no time, a golden sheen began to shimmer.

She then pulled some spicy gluten strips from the box. "These are my homemade spicy strips. You can eat them directly."

In reality, they were spicy strips from her space, but she did know how to make them, so she lied through her teeth without batting an eye.

She dumped them all on, then casually spread some lettuce over the spicy strips with her spatula.

From a paper bag to the side, she took out two crispy, fried crackers whose surfaces were lightly bubbled.

For the sauce, there was extra spicy and mild. She asked everyone if they wanted extra spicy or mild.

No one understood what she said. Uncle Dong didn’t get it either, but he spoke out of habit: "Just use whatever you think is best."

"Alrighty~" Gu Jiaojiao chirped.

Wielding the brush as if practicing calligraphy, she waved her small hand, gliding it over the crepe and its fillings.

The dark brown sauce, speckled with flecks of red, released an enticing aroma when stimulated by the heat.

But the next scene made everyone so surprised they nearly dropped their teacups on the floor.

It was a large, colorful pile, stacked high. Then, Gu Jiaojiao picked up two spatulas and, as if performing a magic trick, began to fold the crepe.

The huge crepe, hugging its pile of fillings, made a crisp CRACK sound under the spatula as it was folded into a jianbing guozi.

She used the spatula to cut it in half, revealing the inside. The fillings, which had looked like a chaotic pile...

...now appeared neat and orderly, wrapped within the crepe skin. A bit of oily sauce slowly oozed from the skin, lingering on its surface.

"One yuan for one. Who wants it?"

"I do~"

"I do."

"..."

It wasn’t the Gu Family members trying to be supportive on purpose; they couldn’t help but shout for one. They had even forgotten they didn’t have any money on them.

The words just blurted out, from Uncle Dong and Dong Qihua as well.
