Back to the 1970s: Building My Fortune Through Time Trading-Chapter 476: New Year’s Eve
The three of them were caught off guard and fell forward in a pile like a stack of dominoes, landing flat on their faces.
"What are you all doing here?"
Su Wenbing’s astonished voice came from above.
Getting caught spying on someone kissing, this is just too embarrassing to the point of social death.
Su Xiaoxiao scrambled to her feet, her first instinct to deflect blame.
"See, I told you peeking wasn’t good, but you two insisted on coming over to watch. I couldn’t persuade you at all."
"No, third sister, you were the one who said you wanted to bring us here to join the fun..."
Su Jianwu immediately retorted. Third sister was just too shameless, clearly she wanted to come and watch, yet she was throwing the blame onto them.
Even if they were going to get beaten, it couldn’t just be the two of them; they had to drag third sister down with them.
Big brother always cherished third sister the most. With third sister with them, they didn’t need to worry about being beaten to death.
Thinking this, Su Jianwen chimed in, "Big brother, it was third sister who told us to come."
Su Xiaoxiao: "..."
Great, the ship of friendship capsized just like that.
Damn it, these two unruly brats, they confessed without a shred of guilt. Fine, very well, from now on there’s no way they’ll come to her for midnight snacks.
"Everyone, wash your hands and come eat. What are you all standing at the door like door deities for?"
Liu Cuilan came out with dishes, shouting to everyone.
The three embarrassed people immediately felt like they were granted amnesty.
"Coming, coming, we’re coming."
Su Xiaoxiao responded quickly.
Thanks to Xu Xiaowan’s arrival, tonight’s dinner looked particularly sumptuous.
Sweet and sour fish, braised ribs, fried carrot balls, all of which the Su Family usually held back on eating.
Su Jianwu, the foodie, couldn’t wait and reached straight for the carrot balls closest to him.
Before he could touch a ball, his mom slapped his hand away unceremoniously: "What are you doing? No one’s started eating yet, why are you reaching? It’s all about you, huh? Quick, go wash those filthy hands." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Su Jianwu pouted but had to begrudgingly go wash his hands.
Xu Xiaowan, also a foodie, looked at the table full of delicious dishes, her eyes sparkling. But nobody had picked up their chopsticks yet, so she felt awkward eating alone.
She swallowed, staring longingly at the meal.
Su Wenbing quietly passed her a piece of sweet and sour rib, then a carrot ball, "If you’re hungry, go ahead and eat. We don’t have many rules in our house."
Liu Cuilan smiled warmly, "Xiao Wan, eat whatever you like, we’re all family, no need to be polite."
Su Jianwu, who had just finished washing his hands, heard this and felt utterly attacked.
His mother’s double standards were glaring.
He couldn’t eat a bite before; but now Xu Xiaowan could? Who would give him peanut support?
Yet, no one at the table paid him any attention, leaving Su Jianwu so frustrated that he wolfed down three big steamed buns, weighing himself down till he couldn’t move.
After dinner, Su Wenbing was called by his mom to send Xu Xiaowan off.
Su Xiaoxiao, having just helped her mom clean the table, looked up to see the two mischievous kids poking their butts out at the gate.
She walked over and gave each of them a kick, "What are you two sneaking around here for?"
"Shhh... third sister, lower your voice."
Su Jianwu whispered mysteriously.
Su Xiaoxiao followed their gaze to see Xu Xiaowan, blushing, quickly peck Su Wenbing on the lips; Su Wenbing was taken aback, his face immediately flushed.
"Well... let me... I’ll walk you back."
Su Wenbing’s face turned beet red, stumbling over his words.
He went over to push his bike, only to trip over his own feet within a few steps, landing face-first again.
Watching their big brother’s hopeless state, the three of them couldn’t bear to look...
Time flew by, suddenly it was New Year’s Eve.
Walking down the streets, most shops had already closed.
However, the streets were decorated with vibrant lights, and the New Year’s atmosphere was getting stronger.
"Hey, working overtime on New Year’s, aren’t the bosses just skinflints? It’s New Year’s Eve, for goodness’ sake."
"Ahhh, I really want to get off work... I can’t take another minute of this damn job."
"Who would want to buy something on New Year’s? Let us off work already."
The department store was filled with complaints. Unfortunately, as a service industry, everyone else was on holiday, but they had to keep working.
If there was anything bad about working in a department store, this was it.
Feeling like the whole world was on vacation, but they were stuck at their posts.
Su Xiaoxiao and Chen Meilan conspired to approach the general manager in the office.
"General Manager, you see no one’s buying anything today; why not let everyone off early for the holiday?"
Su Xiaoxiao spoke directly to Yan Guohua.
Chen Meilan quickly agreed, "Yeah, General Manager, we’ve been open all day with hardly any customers. Why not let everyone off early to celebrate the New Year?"
Yan Guohua pondered briefly, then decided, "Alright, let’s do that."
Thus, on New Year’s Eve afternoon, everyone received a notification about early dismissal, nearly going crazy with happiness.
The once listless group of salespeople suddenly had great energy.
"Finally, finally, we can go home to celebrate New Year’s. My mom’s waiting for me to come home and make dumplings."
"Almost no one’s on the streets, everyone’s gone home for New Year’s. It was about time we were dismissed."
"Let’s go, let’s go, time to go home and put up couplets."
Everyone joyfully packed up and left work.
Su Xiaoxiao hurriedly tidied up and left too. This was her first New Year’s here, it deserved a good celebration.
She initially wanted to pack some dishes from a state-run restaurant, but upon arriving, found out they had closed early.
Of course, their department store had the misfortune to work until now.
However, she quickly came up with an idea.
During the cold New Year’s, hotpot could be simple, warm, and symbolically vibrant, perfect for a celebratory meal.
Recalling the afternoon sale for hotpot ingredients and meatball slices at the game shop, as she neared home, she slipped into a hidden alley.
Excitedly rubbing her hands, she opened the game interface, quickly ordering five pounds each of lamb and beef slices, plus five pounds of various meatballs, along with two packets of beef tallow hotpot base and dipping sauce. She cheerfully carried the haul home.
"Mom, big brother, second brother, I’m back."
She smiled, pushing open the gate, only to be met by a pair of black, beady eyes.
For two seconds, chicken and person stared at each other, when a sudden shout came from behind, "Stupid chicken, stay put!"
Before Su Xiaoxiao could react, the chicken clucked furiously and charged at her.
