Chapter 287: Chapter 287: Ma Cuihua Is Dead

"Why didn’t you contact me? Didn’t I tell you to reach out to me if something happens?" An Meihua continued to insist.

The nurse got frustrated as well, "Family member, we did try to contact you, but couldn’t get through. Someone provided us with her children’s contact information, so of course, we notified the family. The hospital’s procedures are compliant and legal; please calm down.

Additionally, we informed the family to come and claim the body after the patient died, but no one has come so far. If it’s convenient, please come to claim it. If you have doubts about the cause of death, you can request a forensic examination."

This matter really had nothing to do with the hospital; it was better to let the other party have the choice rather than get into a medical dispute. They had a clear conscience and nothing to fear.

An Meihua, with her feverish mind slowly catching up, shakily asked, "Do I need to sign any forms to claim the body?"

The nurse hesitated, "It’s just about settling the costs and providing instructions, that sort of thing."

An Meihua’s scalp tingled at the mention of payment, and while the nurse wasn’t paying attention, she slipped away, ran straight back to the Liu family home.

The door to the Liu family home was locked, and clearly, no one was there.

She asked the neighbors.

Li San’s mother, that big mouth, blabbed everything, "Went out last night with two men and didn’t come back, cursing all the way, saying Jiajia is an ungrateful brat. I think she’s just out of her mind."

Thinking of what the nurse had said, An Meihua’s heart sank to the bottom. This home really couldn’t be lived in anymore. Luckily, luckily her daughter still had a place to stay.

With this in mind, An Meihua quickly opened the door, went inside, and after closing the courtyard gate, rushed to her room to pack.

Sure enough, the room was as Liu Jiajia described, rummaged through messily. The traces showed the perpetrator acted roughly and with a venting attitude.

The more An Meihua thought about it, the angrier she became. She turned to the room where Ma Cuihua used to live, pulled out a tightly wrapped plastic bag from under the bed from several broken jars of pickled vegetables. Inside was Ma Cuihua’s savings, amounting to over five thousand yuan.

Most of this money was her allowance Ma Cuihua had pinched and scraped together from selling vegetables.

With this money in hand, she restored the room to its original state, took her luggage, and quickly left the Liu family home.

As if she had never returned.

Liu Li returned only when it was getting dark, without changing her clothes, her hair a mess. She staggered as she walked, clearly troubled.

Li San’s mother was about to leave, but when she saw her in the courtyard, she immediately turned away in disgust and slammed the gate shut.

Liu Li didn’t care at all, or rather, she didn’t care what others thought.

When she opened the courtyard door and found the house pitch black, she angrily kicked over a soil pot in the corner and cursed loudly.

After a while, there was a knock on the door.

She thought it was An Meihua returning and cursed as she went to open the door, "Are you dead? Do you believe I..."

Halfway through her words, she saw that standing at the door were Liu Yongguo and Xu Manzhi.

"Why is it you? Where’s An Meihua?" Liu Li asked impatiently, her tone particularly harsh.

Xu Manzhi rolled her eyes, didn’t bother to speak to her, while Liu Yongguo asked, "Didn’t the hospital call you? Where is mother’s body?"

Their return was to arrange for Ma Cuihua’s funeral.

Liu Li turned away impatiently, "An Meihua was handling all of that, how should I know?"

Liu Yongguo instantly got angry, furiously grabbing Liu Li by the collar, "So you’re just ignoring everything? Liu Li, are you even human?"

Liu Li mockingly curled her lips and broke free forcefully, "You have the nerve to call me inhuman? You’re the eldest son, yet you showed no concern. Why demand my filial piety? I at least stayed home to accompany mom for so many years, where were you dead to the world?"

Liu Yongguo was left speechless by the scolding, clenched his fists, and urgently turned to Xu Manzhi, "Give me the phone, let me ask."

Xu Manzhi dug through her bag and found an old cellphone.

Calling the hospital, Liu Yongguo then learned that Ma Cuihua’s body was still in the morgue.

He instantly felt a chill run through him and asked with urgency, "Nobody went to handle it?"

The nurse shook her head, "A woman came before, learned that the deceased’s children weren’t taking responsibility, and ran off too."

Liu Yongguo felt caught in his throat, staggered, and rushed towards the hospital.

Xu Manzhi hurried to catch up.

After a series of signatures and payments, they finally saw Ma Cuihua.

Liu Yongguo knelt down and wailed loudly, "Mom! Mom! Your son failed you, I’m here to take you! You’ve toiled your whole life, embrace the departure and don’t linger, I’ll make sure your funeral is perfect."

After this series of events, Ma Cuihua finally rested in peace.

Everyone in the morgue breathed a sigh of relief, helping load the body onto a vehicle to send it back to Liu Yongguo.

The next step was to set up a mourning hall and notify friends, relatives, and neighbors to come and assist.

But the turnout was sparse, unlike the past when Liu Yongming was around. Even Ma Cuihua’s birthday gathering would have neighbors visiting for noodles.

Now, only a few felt compelled to attend.

Liu Yongguo felt a deep sadness and cried bitterly in front of the mourning hall.

Liu Li cried too, but not for Ma Cuihua; she cried because An Meihua had really left, and now no one would give her money anymore.

The funeral ended hastily.

Afterward, Liu Yongguo held Liu Li back, demanding she share the funeral and medical expenses Ma Cuihua owed. These were invoiced expenses, and Liu Li couldn’t brush them off.

However, she’s not a good person; even with the documents in front of her, she could ignore them and self-righteously accuse Liu Yongguo of being unfilial.

The siblings quarreled terribly, and Xu Manzhi would not indulge Liu Li. She immediately demanded Liu Li leave, "Let me tell you, this house was originally ours. We only let you stay because of mom. Now that mom’s gone, we’re reclaiming it, so get out!"

Liu Li was stunned, her face flushed as she argued back with Xu Manzhi, even leading to a physical confrontation.

Xu Manzhi called the police, and when the officers arrived, they laid out the documents signed by Ma Cuihua, clearly stating, Liu Li must either leave or pay up.

Though the police were unimpressed with either side, Xu Manzhi was justified, so they handled it in official capacity.

Liu Li was unwilling to pay or leave despite all reasoning.

Xu Manzhi threw her belongings out in front of the officers, asserting confidently, "Her actions constitute home invasion. I’m justified in evicting her! If she doesn’t leave, I’ll beat her up!"

Because Xu Manzhi hadn’t physically attacked, the officers couldn’t do much.

Liu Li continued to scream hysterically in a frenzy.

Liu Yongguo looked on indifferently, silent all the while.

The inevitable outcome was that Liu Li was driven out of the old Liu family home.

Once the courtyard gate shut, peace returned to the world.
