Chapter 84: Episode 84: The System Mission

The next morning, Roxy actually felt a thousand times better.

But today something was different. The children were definitely not crying, she could hear Drax learning to roar outside but that was all.

[TheSassyGoddess says that maybe they are exercising outside.]

For what? They have the perfect body. Unless you want to kill me.

[TheSassyGoddess laughs. That won’t be too bad, dying from boombayah]

Cunt! How the fuck are you a goddess??

Roxy sat up in bed, rubbing the sleep from her eyes, and looked to her left.

Kaelen was already awake. He was sitting on the edge of the bed, polishing his favorite dagger. He was fully dressed.

In fact, Roxy was eighty percent sure he hadn’t taken off his clothes since she gave them to him yesterday evening.

The crop top makes him look like a macho femboy.

[TheSassyGoddess giggles, the perfect time to jump him.]

Stop trying to make me ruin my insides, with my own hands.

Have you even fucking had sex before?

[Ouch]

[... TheMotheroftheWorld warns you to be careful with your tongue.]

[TheSassyGoddess brushes it off with a wave of her hand. She is a slut just like me, she is the one being used like a baby machine.]

The fuck, you guys pulled me here?!

Roxy was about to have an all out war with the Sassy Goddess but she calmed herself.

"Kaelen," Roxy murmured, stifling a yawn. "Did you sleep in your clothes?"

Kaelen froze. He looked over his shoulder, a guilty expression on his scarred face.

"They are comfortable," he defended, sliding the knife into one of the pockets on his loincloth. Click. "And... I didn’t want to lose them."

"You were afraid Zarek would steal them," Roxy corrected, swinging her legs out of bed.

"The Dragon has no need for my clothes," Kaelen grumbled, standing up and adjusting the croptop. "He has no tools. He is just a lizard that breathes fire."

Speaking of the Lizard, Zarek stepped into the room a moment later.

Roxy almost laughed, he was also wearing the same clothes from yesterday.

"You’ve been looking at yourself from the stream all morning, haven’t you?" Roxy teased, standing up and waddling toward the kitchen.

"I was just checking them out," Zarek sniffed, though he grabbed a basket of fruit to help her with breakfast.

When they entered the main room, they found Syris.

He coiled himself on the floor, holding baby Iris who was playing with his seaweed colored hair.

"Warm," Syris said simply when he saw Roxy. He pulled the collar up to his chin. "It is warm."

"Glad to hear it," Roxy smiled, clapping her hands. "Because today, you’re going to need that energy. Eat up, boys. We’re breaking ground."

Construction began an hour later.

The site was the south-facing side of the cabin, a patch of hard-packed earth that got the most sunlight.

Roxy stood on the porch with a charcoal diagram (courtesy of the System’s architectural database), acting as the foreman.

"Okay," Roxy pointed. "Kaelen, I need a foundation dug here. Three feet deep. We need to reach the bedrock so the thermal mass is stable."

"Understood," Kaelen nodded.

He didn’t need a shovel. He stripped off his new croptop, carefully folding it on a clean stump to keep it pristine, and shifted his hands. His fingers elongated, his hand shifted to that of claws.

He dropped to his knees and began to dig like a dog.

It was impressive to watch. Dirt flew in rhythmic arcs. Kaelen tore through roots and compacted soil with ease. His back muscles rippled with sweat, the morning sun gleaming off his silver hair.

"Show off," Zarek muttered, though he was watching with respect.

"Zarek," Roxy called. "Your turn. We need to fuse the resin."

She pointed to a pile of Clear-Shell Sand and Resin Sap she had purchased from the System store.

"We need to melt this into sheets," Roxy explained. "But it has to be a steady heat. No bursts. Just a constant, high-temperature flow."

Zarek stepped up to the stone trough they were using as a mold. He rolled up his silk sleeves.

"As you wish," Zarek declared.

He took a deep breath, his chest expanding. When he opened his mouth, he breathed fire over the sand mixture.

The sand hissed and liquefied, turning into a thick, glowing sludge. Zarek held the breath, his eyes glowing gold, sweat beading on his forehead as he maintained the exact temperature needed to clarify the resin without burning it.

Syris watched them both.

"And me?" the snake asked.

Roxy handed him a bundle of hollow copper pipes. "Once Kaelen digs the trench, you need to lay the water veins. They have to be perfectly leveled so the water flows by gravity. If there’s a single air bubble, the floor won’t heat up."

The other wolves who passed by looked at them with curiosity but they didn’t dare go near for fear of the males she had.

Syris nodded, taking the pipes. This suited him. He had an innate sense of the earth’s vibrations.

For the next four hours, they were all busy doing their own thing, every hour they had to take a break because Roxy had to feed the triplets.

The men were never tired. Instead during those small little hours they would come to massage Roxy’s leg, kiss her, make her feel relieved to feed the babies.

What more could Roxy ask for?

To be honest, she would prefer living with these three men instead of more. But the system won’t let her.

Kaelen hauled massive iron-wood beams for the frame, grunting with exertion. Zarek carefully lifted the cooling resin sheets, now hard as steel and clear as glass, into place.

Syris lay on his stomach in the dirt, aligning the pipes with obsessive precision.

"Left," Syris instructed Kaelen, who was holding a heavy slate floor tile. "Two millimeters left. The flow is blocked."

"I am holding a hundred-pound rock, snake," Kaelen strained, his arms shaking. "Hurry up."

"Precision cannot be rushed," Syris drawled, tapping the pipe. "There. Drop it."

Thud.

Kaelen dropped the stone, exhaling sharply. He wiped sweat from his eyes.

"Water," Kaelen rasped.

Zarek, who was taking a break from being a human furnace, grabbed a waterskin. He tossed the skin to Kaelen.

"Catch," Zarek grunted.

Kaelen caught it, drank deeply, and wiped his mouth. "Thanks."

He passed the skin to Syris.

Syris took it, drank, and passed it back to Zarek.

Roxy watched from the porch, holding a pitcher of lemonade. She smiled.

They were sweaty, dirty, and exhausted. But they were working as a team. The Dragon heated the materials the Wolf built with, guided by the Serpent’s design.

By late afternoon, the Sun-Nest was finished.

It wasn’t pretty in the traditional sense. It looked industrial and rugged, a structure of dark iron-wood beams and thick, clear resin panels bolted onto the side of the log cabin. The roof was slanted steeply to catch the southern sun.

But it worked.

Roxy led the way to the heavy wooden door that connected the main cabin to the new room.

"Ready?" she asked.

Syris stood at the front, fidgeting with the hem of his coat. He looked nervous.

"Open it," Kaelen urged, crossing his arms. "I want to see if the veins work."

Roxy pushed the door open.

A wave of heat hit them instantly. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

It was a humid, enveloping warmth, like stepping into a tropical jungle.

The sunlight streamed through the clear roof and walls, hitting the black stone floor. The floor absorbed the energy, heating the water in the veins beneath, which then radiated the warmth back up into the air..

Syris slithered inside.

He stopped in the center of the room. He took a breath.

For a creature who had spent months freezing in the shadows of the Iron-Wood, who had to steal body heat from others just to function, this room was overwhelming.

He slowly peeled off his clothes and stood bare basking in the sun, his pale skin glowing. He closed his eyes and tilted his head back.

"Finally," Syris whispered. "I have never felt such warmth.."

He dropped to his knees, pressing his palms against the warm black stone. A shudder went through his long body. His tail partially manifested, sweeping across the warm tiles.

"Thank you," Syris choked out, not looking at them. "Thank you."

Zarek leaned against the doorframe, looking satisfied. "Now we don’t have to fight for the bed."

"The foundation is solid," Kaelen agreed, wiping dirt from his cheek. "This should hold him."

Roxy walked into the room. The heat was a bit much for her, making her feel slightly faint, but seeing Syris so at peace made it worth it.

"This is your room, Syris," Roxy said softly, placing a hand on his bare shoulder. "Your territory. At least you are done with your dormancy."

Syris turned his face into her palm, nuzzling it. His skin was already warming up, losing its usual clammy texture.

"I will forever adore you," Syris murmured. His eyes pooling with desire and Roxy’s heart raced, her cheeks turning a faint red.

Suddenly, a sharp Ping echoed in Roxy’s mind.

Roxy froze.

What was the system on about right now???
