Chapter 80: Episode 80: Discussing Syris Living Space.

The next morning when Roxy and Kaelen emerged from the bedroom properly dressed and cleaned, the scene before them made them stand still to watch in awe.

The sun was streaming through the windows, illuminating dust motes in the air.

Zarek was sitting on the wooden bench near the window, holding little Iris. The baby girl was fussy again, her face scrunching up as she chewed on her own fist.

Zarek looked tired but patient, rocking her with his large, warm hands.

Syris was there too.

The Serpent Prince was sitting on the floor directly in a patch of sunlight, wrapped in three blankets. He looked miserable. He looked up as Roxy and Kaelen entered.

His neon eyes landed on Roxy, then flicked to Kaelen. He smelled the change immediately. The heavy scent of the Wolf’s claim hung over them like a banner. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

As if announcing to everyone.

I WAS FUCKED BY KAELEN.

Roxy wanted to bury herself six feet under. She expected to see them throw a tantrum but Syris just gave a slow nod at Kaelen.

"The Wolf fed well," Syris rasped, his voice sounding dry.

"Watch your tongue," Kaelen warned, though there was no real heat in it. He walked to the kitchen area to start cooking, he wanted to make something delicious for his mate and the pups, whistling a tuneless melody.

Roxy walked over to Zarek. "How is she?"

"She is hot and her gums are still aching," Zarek grunted. "She needs to cool down."

He looked at Syris. No matter how difficult it was to accept the snake, he was the only one who proved worthy of doing it last time.

Syris looked at the baby. And he also understood because he also craved the heat she had on her body.

But there was one more problem.

"I cannot," Syris whispered, pulling the blanket tighter. "I am too cold this time, it won’t work."

Roxy pressed her lips into a thin line.

[TheWorldbuildingGod claims that the baby still needs the cold.]

Roxy was about to say something but Zarek stopped her.

Zarek looked at the shivering snake. Then he looked at his fussing daughter. The Dragon King let out a long, suffering sigh.

"Come here, worm," Zarek commanded.

Syris blinked. "What?"

"Sit on the bench," Zarek ordered, shifting over to make space. "Do not touch me. Just... sit."

Syris hesitated, then slowly stood up, dragging his blankets with him. He sat next to Zarek.

And immediately Zarek’s body heat enveloped the place.

Zarek was a biological furnace. His metabolism burned at a volcanic temperature. Sitting next to him was like sitting next to a roaring wood stove.

Syris let out a low moan of relief as the Dragon’s ambient heat washed over him. His shivering stopped. The grey tint left his skin, replaced by a healthier pearl color.

"Better?" Zarek asked gruffly, not looking at him.

"Functional," Syris replied, leaning just an inch closer to the heat source without making contact.

"Here," Zarek passed the baby to him.

Syris took Iris. His skin was still cool, but not freezing. He cradled her against his chest. The combination of Syris’s cool, smooth skin soothing her fever and Zarek’s radiant heat warming the air created the perfect environment.

Iris stopped crying instantly. She let out a contented sigh and closed her eyes.

Roxy watched them, the Dragon providing the heat, the Snake helping with the babies.

And she wondered why the boys were not disturbing that much.

She went to the crib and stood over them. The males were still sound asleep, not moving an inch from Iris’s cries.

[TheMotheroftheWorld giggles saying that males are prideful beings and they would never admit to pain. They would rather suffer in silence]

Roxy clicked her tongue. She knew that was right. They hated to complain.

But these were her babies.

"Well," she whispered to herself, a smile tugging at her lips. "As long as Syris is here to create balance."

Breakfast was surprisingly peaceful. Kaelen ate enough for three men. Zarek ate quietly, unlike when they were in his cave and only her watched, now that he was with company he became more dignified.

Syris picked at his food, finally strong enough to digest his food. Roxy had urged him to shift into his human form so he wouldn’t knock down things in the living room.

And surprisingly enough Syris had longer slender legs, the men didn’t let her look the rest as Kaelen dragged Syris into the bedroom to change while Zarek turned Roxy to his chest.

They didn’t want the snake or Roxy to want any funny business.

Roxy scoffed internally.

As if that could fucking stop me.

After the plates were cleared, Roxy brought out a piece of charcoal and a large sheet of parchment.

"Okay," Roxy announced, slapping the paper onto the table. "We need to talk about the room. If Syris is staying, he can’t sleep on the rug. We need to build an extra room."

She began to sketch. It was a crude drawing, basically a square attached to the side of the cabin.

"We can dig out a cellar on the north side," Roxy explained, pointing to her square. "It’ll be secure. We can line it with stone. It’ll be private."

Soon Syris would go into hibernation and he definitely needed somewhere to stay.

Syris peered at the drawing. His nose wrinkled.

"A hole?" he asked, looking offended. "You want to put me in a hole?"

"It’s a den," Roxy corrected. "Wolves like dens. It’s cozy."

"I am not a mole," Syris snapped, sitting up straighter. "And I am not a Wolf. I am a Serpent. Putting me in a dark, cold stone box is a death sentence, Roxy. Did you not see me shivering this morning?"

"Well, we can put a fireplace in it," Kaelen suggested helpfully.

"Fire requires wood," Syris countered. "And fire dies at night. I need constant warmth. I need the sun."

He reached out and tapped the table with a long fingernail.

"I need a Sun-Trap."

"A what?" Zarek asked, raising an eyebrow.

"A room that catches the light," Syris explained, using his hands to gesture. "With walls that let the sun in but keep the wind out. A floor that absorbs the heat of the day and releases it slowly at night. Like a rock in the desert."

He doesn’t know what he was saying but that was basically a dream of his.

Roxy stared at him. She realized what he was describing.

A greenhouse. Or a solarium.

"Glass walls?" Roxy asked. Not sure if they knew the concept of making glass.

She doesn’t know too so she wouldn’t be poking her nose in that?

Kaelen frowned. "Roxy, I don’t think we have this glass you speak of in the iron-wood forest. And even if we did, it freezes at night here. He will turn into ice."

"Not if we use the right materials," Roxy murmured, her mind racing.

She opened her System interface.

[Shop Search: Greenhouse Materials]

Option 1: Basic Glass Panes - 500 LP

Option 2: Reinforced Poly-Resin Sheets (Shatterproof) - 2000 LP

Option 3: Solar Thermal Heating System (Passive) - 5000 LP

Option 4: Black Sun Crystal (Absorbs heat instantly.) - 3,000

Option 5: Clear Shell Sheets (stronger than glass and made from refined sap.)

Roxy’s eyes locked onto the third option.

"Syris is right," Roxy said slowly. "Stone is too cold. Wood blocks the sun. We need to build a room of Clear-Shell."

"Clear-Shell?" Zarek asked. "Like a beetle wing?"

"Stronger," Roxy said, grabbing the charcoal. She drew a slanted roof. Then she drew a dark slab on top of it.

"And for the heat..." she tapped the dark slab. "We use Black Sun-Stones on the roof."

The three men stared at her. It was the first time they heard of the word.

Roxy felt like it was the safest option for her current balance.

"What do the stones do?" Syris asked, intrigued.

"They drink the sunlight," Roxy explained, using her hands to demonstrate. "They get very hot. And underneath them, we run hollow reeds... or metal veins... filled with water."

She drew lines running from the roof down to the floor.

"The sun heats the stones. The stones heat the water. The hot water flows down into veins under the floor. So the floor becomes like a living thing. It stays warm all night, radiating heat up into your belly."

Syris’s mouth fell open. His neon eyes began to glow with genuine awe.

"A floor... that stays warm like a living body?" he whispered. "Without fire?"

"Yes," Roxy nodded. "It’s... it’s a technique I know. We trap the sun’s power in the water."

Zarek looked at the drawing. He understood the concept of heat flow. And he began to wonder where his mate was from.

"Like blood," Zarek mused. "You want to give the room hot blood."

"Exactly," Roxy smiled. "We make the room alive."

She looked at Syris.

"If I build you a room made of Clear-Shell, where the floor is always warm... will you stop complaining about the cold?"

Syris looked at her. He looked at the drawing. He looked at the promise of eternal warmth.

For a cold-blooded creature who spent half his life seeking heat sources, this was the most romantic thing anyone had ever offered him.

"If you build this..." Syris said, his voice trembling slightly with emotion. "I will never leave. I will guard this cabin until the stars fall."

"Okay, settle down," Kaelen grumbled, though he looked impressed. "We get it. You like warm floors."

Roxy stood up, clapping her hands.

"Then it’s decided. We aren’t building a cellar. We’re building a Sun-Nest."
