Chapter 89 - The Twins’ Plan
The twins sat on their bed, the ticking sound of the wall clock reverberating in the room as both were in their own world. Before Jasmine, who was twisting her doll’s hair, released a long sigh and her brow furrowed, "Mom is in it again," she muttered dejectedly, pausing what she was doing, staring at her twin brother.
Hanith’s hands stilled, his nose scrunched while nodding in agreement. Even though their mom thought they couldn’t see it, they could see the sadness in her eyes.
Their mom sighed every time, looking blank while staring at the wall without knowing, even smiling at their conversation when it wasn’t necessary. She wasn’t like that before—something must have happened.
"Hmmm, what can we do now?" Hanith asked, moving to his sister on the bed.
"Ah!" Jasmine screamed a little, dropping her doll on the ground, "I don’t know. Should we call Uncle Mathy?"
"No, but we can ask for daddy," Hanith mumbled softly.
"I miss him also," Jasmine grumbled, "Mom never says anything about him. Are they not wanting to be together anymore?" she whispered as Hanith’s eyes widened in panic.
"No way," he crossed his hands, "we can’t allow that!"
"Yes, I know," Jasmine slumped her shoulders, "So what should we do?"
Hanith smiled softly, "Let’s find an adult to call daddy for us. We will call him and make them come together again."
Jasmine stared at her brother like he had grown another head, "Do you know his number?"
"Yes," Hanith nodded, pride brimming in his eyes.
"Woah Hanith, you are a genius!" Jasmine squealed, hugging her brother then stopped, "but before that, let’s go stir mommy up." She raised her brow mischievously and her brother nodded.
Sometimes their mommy needs a little push to move sometimes.
The twins high-fived themselves before they scooted away from the bed and ran through the hallway and stopped in their tracks when they saw their mother, looking at her phone with side eyes.
And they stared at each other, already telepathically understanding each other without talking. Jasmine was the first person to move and jump on Katherine.
Katherine was pulled out of her thoughts; she had been staring at her phone for days, replaying the voice mails and reading messages yet she didn’t have the courage to send a response.
Katherine flinched a little from the abrupt human contact as she released a sigh when she saw Jasmine, looking at her expectantly and grinning widely.
"Oh my baby Jasy Jasmine," Katherine called softly, tackling her body a little then stopped to caress Jasmine’s hair then looked at Hanith standing some feet away from the couch, his eyes dropped to the floor.
Katherine’s brow furrowed immediately as she placed Jasmine on the couch then moved to Hanith, "Hanith darling," she called softly, holding Hanith’s hand and pulling him closer. Raising his head up to look at his eyes. "What happened, my boy?" she asked.
"Why won’t Uncle Piano come?" he asked in a soft voice and Katherine felt her heart twist. Katherine hadn’t thought about her children in all her mess—how would they feel that the father they had been bonding with for months disappeared again? She was just thinking about herself and she wanted to slap herself.
And she hugged him to ease the guilt eating her up from her realization.
"Did we do something wrong?" he asked again and Katherine quickly whipped her head to the back to see Jasmine’s gaze drop also.
God of mercy! Katherine wanted to face palm herself and called Jasmine closer, hugging both of them. Katherine just noticed her children had been walking on eggshells around her and it saddened her.
"No, sweetheart. It’s not you." But how could she explain that she was the reason this time around, she was the hot-headed one who didn’t listen to explanations and made them separate this time.
Katherine would like that she had been seeing Aaron’s silhouette lingering at her apartment building—he would stare at the window for sometimes before he drove away. He never came to the door again after the drunk night, he just stood under the streetlight, hoping to catch a glimpse of her or the kids.
Katherine had peeked through the window a little to stare at him and her heart stuttered every time. He looked aged and haggard from his posture, yet Katherine couldn’t have it in her heart to run down and hug him.
She’d clutched the curtain tightly with trembling heart and chest heaving yet still she’d turned away then cry herself to sleep.
"Mom," Katherine was pulled out again and she smiled but her eyes betrayed her, they were filled with unshed tears.
"Sorry darling, can you two stay in your room, I’ll come and bring you something—" her lips wobbled then quickly turned to walk to the kitchen.
The twins released a relieved sigh, and smiled at each other. "We did it," Jasmine cheered but Hanith quickly grabbed her hands to make her quiet down.
"We are done with part 1," he said, "Then part 2 plan tomorrow," Hanith said and Jasmine nodded eagerly.

Aaron sat in his car, staring at his wristwatch to wait for the twins to come out of the class. He was surprised when he saw a strange call this morning. He was tempted to leave it because it was an unknown number but decided against it.
And to his utmost surprise it was his children and he was shocked. He nearly choked on tears this morning when he heard both Jasmine and Hanith’s voice.
He missed them, he couldn’t see them very well since that day though he tailed the car whenever they were dropped and picked up at school but he didn’t dare to move closer to them because he knew Katherine wouldn’t want that and he didn’t want to make her hate him more than she did now.
Aaron’s eyes trained at the gate while he gripped the steering wheel tightly, looking for the familiar hair color and eyes.
As his eyes saw the twins, he jumped out of the car, running to the pool of pupils and parents—he looked out of place and some parents stopped to glance at him but he didn’t care as he stood and waved his hand.
The twins noticing him, ran toward him while he crouched on the ground, his hands stretched open for them.
"Uncle Piano!" Jasmine beamed, her smile was radiant and her eyes twinkled with happiness.
"Shh, not so loud," Hanith muttered, glancing around nervously not to see their mommy. Their mommy didn’t know they called their father behind her back. It wasn’t time for her to come pick them up, so the little time before their mommy came to pick them up, they would have time to talk to their father.
"My babies." Aaron said, and hugged them tightly, inhaling their hair wash. God! He had missed them so much. He felt he could breathe partially now since everything had been messed up. "I miss you guys so much." he mumbled in their hair.
Then pulled them out of his embrace a little, kissed their forehead, nose and cheeks before pulling them back to his chest.
"We miss you too daddy," they both said and Aaron sucked in a long breath. His hands flattered in their hair, his nose flared as he stared at the little bundle in his arms.
They called him daddy again. They wanted him. They still wanted him even though he knew their mommy wouldn’t want to see him now.
"Why can’t we come over anymore?" Hanith asked, clutching the front cloth of Aaron.
"Mom says not to talk about you and don’t say anything," Jasmine mumbled wrapping her hands around his neck.
Aaron’s face pulled into a smile for the first time this week, and caressed their back slowly, "I hurt her."
"But you didn’t mean it," Hanith responded.
"She’s upset with me." Aaron said again, the tenor of his voice low, rough and sad.
Jasmine’s eyes softened, "Then say sorry."
"Yes," Hanith agreed, "Mommy said say sorry when you upset people and sorry works every time."
"I tried," Aaron whispered dejectedly. "She won’t let me for now." Aaron blinked then stared into their hopeful little faces and he smiled a little. Aaron pulled them out of their embrace, and grabbed their hands in his. "Can you help me?"
"Like spies?" Jasmine grinned, her eyes already sparkling with mischief while Hanith nodded.
Aaron chuckled, rubbing their hair. "No, not spies." he muttered, loving their eagerness, "Just... tell her I love her. That I never stopped. That I miss all of you."
Jasmine touched his face. "We miss you too, daddy."
Aaron’s heart skipped again from hearing daddy again. They recognized him as their father and he kissed their foreheads endearingly and handed them a small note folded neatly. "Don’t let anyone else see it, okay?"
"Okay," they both nodded.
"Promise," he raised his pinky finger.
"Promise." they replied in unison and grinned happily as they interlocked their pinky together before kissing it.
And the twins waved their hands at him as the twins ran back to the waiting area to wait for who to pick them up and Aaron entered his car, leaning against the seat and closed his eyes.
The silence stretched in the car yet for the first time in days, he felt hopeful that the kids would be his guardian angels.
