Chapter 716: The Ceremony I

"So Lana didnโ€™t come?" After getting into the limousine, Daniel greeted him and looked around. Except for Varnos, he couldnโ€™t spot anyone else in the car.

Of course, aside from the driver who was busy driving. ๐’ป๐“‡๐‘’๐˜ฆ๐˜ธ๐‘’๐’ท๐“ƒโ„ด๐‘ฃ๐˜ฆ๐‘™.๐’ธโ„ด๐˜ฎ

"No," Varnos answered without hesitation. His face was calm and composed, as if they werenโ€™t possibly heading into a dangerous ceremony.

It was clear he had mentally prepared himself for whatever might happen.

"You didnโ€™t let her?" Daniel sighed and sat down on the seat. The car door closed and they started moving. Their destination was about half an hour away.

"Itโ€™s dangerous, and I donโ€™t want to put her in harmโ€™s way too," the guild leader gave a short explanation. He had no intention of bringing anyone with him to that ceremony.

Daniel was an exception, and only because of his power. Varnos was certain this young man could defend himself without any issue, and his presence might even disrupt the enemyโ€™s calculations and plans.

If he brought Lana along, she could be taken hostage, get hurt, or even get killed. None of those three possibilities was something he wanted to witness with his own eyes. He would rather, if something bad had to happen, it only happened to him.

"I doubt she accepted that easily," Daniel thought for a moment and showed his agreement too. He also felt it was better that the girl wasnโ€™t here.

Lana was definitely powerful, a peak Rank A Awakened, but that was it. She didnโ€™t have the ability to fight Rank S Awakened, and against potential enemies she would be extremely vulnerable.

"She had no choice. I locked her up," Varnos sighed this time. What he did wasnโ€™t something to be proud of, but he had no other option.

"Well, I guess youโ€™re going to have a massive headache later," Daniel laughed out loud and poured himself a glass of water, then drank it.

Their half-hour drive ended without them even noticing. There was no traffic at all in the Goblin Guildโ€™s area. The streets were empty and extremely beautiful.

The buildings were almost completely different from the rest of the city and mostly followed the architectural style of the Celestial Domain. It was obvious this part of the city was newly built and constructed by the Goblin Guild itself.

Daniel could sense the existence of tens of thousands of arrays spread throughout the guildโ€™s territory. All of them were surveillance and information arrays, and they had only one purpose:

Absolute monitoring of the area under Goblin Guild control to prevent any kind of problem from arising.

When they reached the entrance to the guildโ€™s parking lot, they saw dozens of other luxury cars and limousines parked in front of them.

"Looks like a lot of guests showed up," Daniel said after just one glance.

"All the Rank S Awakened in the country were invited. Even representatives from top guilds in neighboring countries came. Of course itโ€™s going to be crowded," Varnos added.

Even though the Goblin Guild wasnโ€™t the most powerful guild in the entire region, and there were stronger guilds in neighboring countries, it was definitely one of the top-tier guilds with high influence and fame.

As long as they could get another Heavenly King, they would surely climb into the ranks of the regionโ€™s most powerful. Of course, from his point of view, that was an unreachable dream for these bastards.

"And cause trouble for us in front of all these people? That seems unlikely, but I still donโ€™t have a good feeling," Daniel grumbled.

He couldnโ€™t figure out how the Goblin Guild planned to create trouble for them in this situation. Frame them for something? Spread rumors against them? Or attack them directly? A challenge from the Goblin Guild leader?

At first glance, all of them seemed possible, but after thinking a little more, it became clear that the chance of any of them actually happening was close to zero.

The reason was simple: too many important people were present here. The Goblin Guild had to pay attention to every single one of their actions and couldnโ€™t afford to make even the smallest mistake that would offend these people.

So exactly what plan did they have?

The driver parked the car in the parking lot and opened the door for both of them. They got out, took a breath, and then Daniel turned around and looked at the palace-like building behind him.

It was exactly like the royal palaces in the Celestial Domain, luxurious and majestic, as if it had been built for a royal family.

โ€™They are extremely ambitious,โ€™ he analyzed. Sometimes behavior is shown through actions, and from this palace he could tell that the leaders of this guild truly dreamed of ruling over the country.

Varnos walked ahead toward the entrance. Even though there were many guests and they had to show their invitations before entering, no long line had formed.

The attendants standing at the entrance quickly checked the invitations and allowed people in.

"Oh? Mr. Alderic? Thereโ€™s no need for an invitation from you. How could I possibly dare to ask you for one?" The attendant bowed slightly in front of the handsome middle-aged man whose turn it was and spoke with respect.

"Haha, itโ€™s no problem. The procedure has to be followed anyway," the middle-aged man named Alderic looked clearly pleased and happy.

"No no no, I wouldnโ€™t dare. Please go inside."

"Alright, alright, donโ€™t worry," the man smiled and entered the palace without showing his invitation.

However, when the next personโ€™s turn came, they were forced to show their invitation no matter what, no exceptions were made.

"Who was that?" Daniel asked with a bit of curiosity. The manโ€™s face looked somewhat familiar, and besides that, he felt a strange sensation coming from him.

"The leader of the White Stars Guild, one of the top ten guilds in the country and also one of our enemies," Varnos gave a short explanation.

"Thatโ€™s why I felt strange. So heโ€™s a user of the Law of Stars. But enemy? Why havenโ€™t I heard anything about this?"

The strange feeling he had was because this guy cultivates the Law of Stars just like him. Daniel was absolutely certain that this man had already reached 100% comprehension of the Law of Stars, and he was far, far ahead of Daniel in that regard.

"Because on the media level theyโ€™re considered our enemies, but theyโ€™re not at a level where we see them as a real threat. Theyโ€™re definitely powerful, but not enough to cause us any serious problems."

"Our enmity is mostly due to conflicting interests and fights over a few dungeons, but weโ€™ve never had any physical clashes," the guild leader finished his explanation.

"I see," Daniel nodded, and soon it was their turn.

Unfortunately, even though Varnos was practically one of the top three Rank S in the country, they werenโ€™t allowed to enter the palace right away. They were told he had to show the invitation.

Varnos took out the invitation and handed it over.

But to everyoneโ€™s shock, the attendant tore the invitation right in front of them and threw the pieces toward their faces, an action that left all the people present stunned and in disbelief.

"Do you think Iโ€™m an idiot? Itโ€™s obvious this invitation is fake!"
