Awakening: I Ascend As A Legendary Ranked Necromancer-Chapter 24: Fuck
We froze and I watched the C Iron monsters move forward with dead monsters in their paws and they dropped them beside the bigger monster.
The big monster, ine of its hands, big enough to encircle a man, jerked down and scooped the varieties of dead monsters up. Its body ripped, and the flesh pulled back; half of its body opened, revealing yellow fangs that rigged the interior of the maw of a mouth.
A chill went down my spine and I shuddered. Half of that monster’s body was mouth! Fear made my legs stiff.
I wasn’t the only one, the others were feeling it as well. The simple act of the monster eating was enough to let us know we might have bitten more than we could chew.
’I think this is the time to run, now’ I thought. I moved backwards hurriedly and slammed into Litha who misplaced her foot and stepped on a dried twig.
In the small clearing, it sounded like a gunshot.
Everyone froze. The big rot monster. The smaller monsters. Even the world seemed to hold its breath. I didn’t know if the rot monster had eyes, but I saw rolls of rotted flesh pulled back to reveal rows of fangs. It looked like the mouth of a monster that could swallow the world whole.
The monster shrinked loudly, a sound that tore out of it in a shockwave.
We turned and bolted.
The trees passed by me in a blur as I dashed around them, doing my best not to get in the others’ way. The ground shook as the monster followed, the sound of trees snapping and getting crunched followed behind us but we paid it no heed.
One of the smaller monsters caught up and pounced on me from the right. My hand turned to a sword so fast I barely felt the usual shifting of flesh and bone. A swift slash and the monster fell into two.
Most of the smaller monsters also caught up with the others and were swiftly taken down. The big rot monster was slow but its long strides made it cover distance quickly.
Something passed over our heads suddenly and the ground in front of us exploded, sending dust and debris into the air.
"Watch out!" Litha flung herself forward toward Temur and me, instantly creating a shield around us. She quickly pumped it full of energy.
The monster’s hand came down, hitting the shield and magic sparked from the collision. She grunted as it drained more of her power.
"We are so fucked. I can’t hold this long." She managed to say, focusing all her attention on holding the shield together for as long as she could.
"Then we use the time you buy us to plan quickly. Torvan, you are the quickest among us. You will face it directly while I deal damage from the side. Litha, your long-range attacks will go a long way," Temur said.
He replaced his sword and brought out one with a broader blade.
I nodded, my heart pounding fast. Fight that thing close up? I knew I had been making progress, but getting close to that abomination was a different matter entirely. I looked at the others and saw the way their faces shuttered, as if they had done this several times before.
I remembered what Litha said, ’Danger is the only way we can grow stronger’.
I straightened. "I’m ready when you are."
"After you, Litha. And may the green sky watch our victory today." Temur said, and his aura followed, swirling around him in vivid red. He concentrated it on his sword, listening to the distant murmuring of his Grimoire as his eyes flared.
I also got myself ready, shifting my hand into a sword and pouring as much power as I could into it, turning it into a thing of flesh and fangs.
I focused on our connection and sent mental thoughts to Hermit. ’Be my eyes’
Both of my eyes glowed red and the world was suddenly washed in a reddish taint.
The claws came down again and this time Litha dissolved the shield with a cry. "Now!"
Temur raised his sword and sliced upward, his aura surged with the blade and met the full weight of the monster. His sword crashed into hard claws and sparks showered down, but the force sent him to his knees. "I’ll buy time! You foul thing!"
He grunted and whirled in deflection, letting the claws strike the ground beside him before cutting into the monster’s fingers and slicing one clean off.
The monster flinched and shrilled in pain.
Litha and I had already made use of the opportunity.
She ran backward, quickly climbing the tallest tree she could find. She heated her mana, and above her head energy flickered as mana gathered, searing the air into sizzle.
Meanwhile, I ran beneath the monster, trying to draw its attention while it was locked with Temur. I heard its roar of pain and knew I had to keep it focused on me so Temur could deal damage. "Unholy magic!"
I set my sword ablaze with green fire and aimed for where I thought its face might be, and released an arc of green magic that leapt forward and smashed into its flesh.
Rotting layers peeled away dramatically, making the monster jump back and snap more trees like twigs.
That definitely got its attention. Even without eyes, all of it focused on me.
"Ah ha ah. It isn’t what you think," I said as the monster’s aura suddenly focused and weighed down on me.
The monster clearly thought whatever it wanted, because its hand came down like a tree stump and punched me.
The blow created wind pressure that turned the space I occupied into a mini explosion. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
I crashed into two trees before I could stop.
Pain exploded in my head. My back felt like it had been run over by a car, and my chest was tight with it. Hermit sent spikes of alarm through our connection just moments before a shadow loomed over me. Again.
Fuck.
