Ascension of the Dark Seraph-Chapter 348: The Savior (1)
Chapter 348: The Savior (1)
Students glanced at them.
Leandra’s voice was loud enough for almost the entire cafeteria to hear.
It was already well-known that they were people who Lucivar considered family.
All of the students knew to mind their own business, too pressured to say anything, to this family of incredible people. Not even the top rankers of the academy could match them, at least not after Caldaros’ unfortunate death.
Despite that, Mirel still stood up and apologized to the crowd for being too noisy.
His face was charming enough for the students to forget the commotion Leandra caused.
Once he sat down again, he focused on Leandra.
"Okay, it’s our fault for pressuring you too much," He leaned forward, voice as light as a whisper. "But you have to understand where we’re coming from. Something was going on; we could feel it. Then, we can’t find Bob. The last time I saw Ravenna was two days ago. And now, you’re acting weird—sitting alone like this like an introvert, and then the attack last night happened..."
Mirel paused for a second, leaning further to meet Leandra’s gaze, who was fixed on the table.
Forcing her to focus on him.
"We are completely in the dark here," He whispered, eyes flickering with unrest.
Hearing this, Leandra’s shoulders slumped.
She knew that it was unfair that Mirel and Bakar were left in the dark like this, but it was unintentional.
Be it Leandra or Ravenna, none could find the moment to tell them.
It was about Bob’s disappearance and Master Tobias, two things that are hard to digest.
Leandra raised her gaze, looking at both Mirel and Bakar, who were eager to help if necessary.
Underneath the table, she was clenching her fists.
Her lips were pursed into a thin line, as if the words she was about to say were reluctant to be said.
Eventually, she sighed.
"It was Lucivar’s enemy last night," She said with a trembling voice—her body still shivered as if last night’s dread was still present until now. "It’s the same as you know who. I don’t know how this entity located us, but last night he was planning to get me into trouble."
"Get you into trouble?" Mirel raised a brow. "How?"
"By forcing me to kill some students." Leandra’s eyes trailed to the cafeteria’s hall.
She was making sure that nobody was eavesdropping.
Hearing this, Mirel and Bakar exchanged a look—their eyes widening in shock.
Leandra elaborated before both of them could say anything, recounting what that man said and did last night, along with Zibbo coming to help when she needed the most. It was a plan from the enemy to see how Lucivar would react to the situation.
Fortunately, it didn’t go through as planned—all thanks to Lucivar’s insight.
"And then? What about Bob and Ravenna?" Mirel continued to probe. "Surely you know something."
"I..." Leandra paused, the words stuck in her throat. "I don’t know where they are."
"Are you lying?" Bakar pressed. "We can help, Leandra. Don’t keep things from us."
Leandra looked at Bakar, this time, her eyes unwavering.
She didn’t seem to be hesitating anymore.
"Before that man told me his plan, I thought I was going to die, Bakar. Is it so weird for me to be distraught after that?" She asked sharply, her tone lowering into glacier ice. "Besides, if Zibbo hadn’t come, you’d be meeting me in prison right now. Is it really that weird for me to be like this after that?"
Bakar wanted to refute, but Mirel placed a hand on his chest.
No use for him to probe further.
Besides, regardless of whether she was lying or not, what she experienced last night was real.
"So, what’s your plan?" Mirel leaned back on his chair. "Should we stay in the same room for now?"
"No, that won’t be necessary," Leandra shook her head. "That man has the ability to stop time. No use for sticking together. He also has the power to control people and use them as puppets. Sticking together might be bad for us."
"In that case, I’ll ask Master Tobias to help us find Bob and Ravenna." Bakar stood up.
Leandra reached out her hand across the table, stopping him.
"Don’t!"
"Don’t...?"
Bakar frowned, knowing that Leandra was still hiding things from them.
It was obvious by now.
Normally, she was cold and outright dismissive of everything they did.
For her to reach out like this was proof that she still has secrets.
Despite that, Bakar remained quiet as he sat back down, and so did Mirel, who watched this unfold.
A good minute passed in silence.
None of them speaks a single word, allowing Leandra to take her time to think things thoroughly.
Then, finally, she opened her mouth.
"Can I ask both of you something?"
Mirel and Bakar stayed quiet, which was a sign that Leandra took as a yes.
"How do both of you meet Master Tobias?"
Such a question caught Mirel and Bakar off guard.
At this moment, with the location of both Bob and Ravenna hanging in the air, their minds were going through several possibilities. Both of them could abandon the family, or perhaps Lucivar did something to them that pushed them away.
However, none of the possibilities they thought had anything to do with Master Tobias.
"You knew about this already," Bakar said.
Living under the same roof for years, there was bound to be a time when they shared their experiences.
Including the dark experience that led them to Master Tobias.
"Yes, I’m well-aware, but I just... I just want to hear it again."
At this point, Mirel and Bakar could feel their hearts pounding inside their chests.
Not once in their entire lives since joining Master Tobias’ household had they ever seen Leandra appear so vulnerable, so fragile like this. She had always been the coldest among them, perhaps even the one with the strongest mentality, especially knowing how brutal her life had been before all of this.
So, seeing her acting like this worries them, greatly worries them.
Mirel scratched the back of his head and placed both arms on the table, recalling his darkest time.
"I was sixteen back then," He started, eyes turning hollow as his senses began to recall the voices that he hated the most. "I was a street performer, playing all kinds of musical instruments that I learned from Old Hendrick. The first time I met Master Tobias was when he was in an inn with Delilah..."
Mirel recounted that day.
He was earning money bit by bit to help Old Hendrick, who was sick back home, and also settle the debt he had with a couple of people. That day, he was performing in front of a crowded inn, and from the open window, he saw a couple there sitting by the window.
Master Tobias and Delilah.
The two of them hardly looked like a perfect couple.
Instead, they looked like a troublesome couple.
From the street, Mirel could hear Delilah cursing Master Tobias for finding a love note in his pocket.
He took it out by mistake, and that started the fight.
Mirel confessed that he was enthralled by Master Tobias, a man who had the resources to do something so risky to cheat on his woman. Back then, he swore that if he was ever in Master Tobias’ position, no chance that he’d cheat on his woman.
Seeing him looking intently, Master Tobias turned towards him.
And before he knew it, Master Tobias was already outside, standing in front of him.
Master Tobias, with his sheepish smile, handed money to Mirel, hoping that he’d play romantic music.
Due to the money, Mirel agreed.
Excited, Master Tobias went back inside, and Mirel stood beside the open window, playing a song for her.
It was so romantic that Delilah completely forgot about what had happened earlier.
"Back then, he was a charming man, I’m sure. Had it not been for his white eye, blind, he’d look dashing."
Leandra smiled lightly, recalling that story.
"Then, when did you meet him again?"
"It was not too long after that day..."
Mirel continued the story, but his mood shifted to a gloomy one as the fun part was over.
After getting the money from Master Tobias and the bonus he gave as thanks for helping Delilah forget what she saw, the love note, Mirel went back to see Old Hendrick with a newfound hope and happiness, as the money could buy him three months of time.
Not to mention, he could also hire a healer to check on Old Hendrick.
He was practically skipping as he made his way back.
But when he arrived there, back to the small house in the suburb, his heart sank to his stomach.
Old Hendrick was on the bed, grasping the air violently.
He couldn’t breathe, the veins around his neck turned black, and his face was losing color.
Mirel tried helping him the best he could, but Old Hendrick’s violent struggle didn’t allow him to get close, even pushing him back and causing him to stumble and fall to the floor. In the next minute, the struggling stopped.
Due to his illness, Old Hendrick breathed his last breath.
At the time, Mirel couldn’t believe it.
He finally had the money to hire a healer, but fate played a cruel game. That very day, Old Hendrick passed away right in front of his eyes. The pain was overwhelming. After being abandoned by his real parents, Old Hendric had been his only family.
And now, he was all alone.
Perhaps the intense emotions he was feeling that day played a part, but it happened.
Mirel’s dormant bloodline awakened, turning him into a new Yellow Lightning Elemental Hybrid.
Desperately, he tries to revive Old Hendrick with his new powers, but no response.
Old Hendrick passed away that day.
Once he had given up, the neighbour came running inside and saw the mess.
Mirel thought people were going to help him bury Old Hendrick, but no, he was apprehended by the local detective. He was blamed for the murder of Old Hendrick, which was a devastating twist for a sixteen-year-old.
He tried to explain, but none of them listened.
Eventually, he realized that the people didn’t listen because they thought he had killed Old Hendrick.
No.
It was the governor’s doing.
Knowing that he had awakened and turned into a Hybrid with lightning powers, the governor wanted to use him as a power source for the entire slave city. He was apprehended because of that. Locked up so that the Lord didn’t know that a Hybrid was born from the city.
And since he lost his only family, nobody came to search for him.
He was completely alone.
Caged inside a room that was suspended in darkness, twenty-four seven.
Only his lightning provided light, but even that is fleeting.
"On the second day of being in there, I heard a commotion outside. People screaming in pain, and guns blaring," Mirel recounted, eyes flickering with hope and also relief. "And finally, Master Tobias came into the room to save me. Beside him was Delilah, wearing a pliant smile that could light up the room..."
