Armed Train in the Apocalypse-Chapter 373 - 251: He Said He’s Here
Tide Watching Island, at the foot of the ring-shaped mountain.
A dozen or so subordinates of the Second Priest stood in a pavilion next to the resort hotel.
Two confidants squatted together, lit cigarettes, and whispered to each other.
The one missing an ear on the left spoke first, "I don’t know what kind of people they are..."
The other, with upturned eyes, said disdainfully, "Survivors, you know. Haven’t you seen how many people have arrived on Tide Watching Island? At least tens of thousands. The outside world is probably submerged by the floods. This is the last sanctuary."
"There’s also New Eden."
"Tch, what sanctuary? If there really is one, perhaps it’s just under our feet here on Tide Watching Island."
Upon hearing this, Que’Er’s brow twitched, instinctively looking at the others, and breathed a sigh of relief when no one noticed their conversation, and cursed under his breath, "Can’t you think before you speak? If the Second Priest hears, he’d turn us into living corpses."
A hint of dread flashed in the upturned-eye’s eyes, "Have you eaten the mystical stone?"
Que’Er panicked, "What do you mean?"
"No, just asking. It seems like ninety percent of New Eden people have eaten the mystical stone."
"Haven’t you eaten it?"
The two fell silent for a moment.
"Anyway, when I marked it, I didn’t feel any problem with the mystical stone."
The upturned-eye reluctantly stubbed the cigarette butt on the ground and spat, "Let’s not talk about it. Have the survivors participating in the ceremony been gathered?"
"The three or four hundred who are still alive should be heading this way."
"Why did they die so quickly this time? Last time, weren’t there still more than two thousand on the second day?"
"There were originally fewer people, and they encountered disaster right from the start. A big flood came ashore, who knows what wicked thing it brought."
"Such a commotion, didn’t check out what it was?"
The upturned-eye asked curiously.
"Whatever, it’s not my responsibility. There’s food, drink, and women on the island. Even if the sky falls, there are several priests holding it up."
"Hey, your women are really nice. Want to trade with mine?"
"Someone’s coming!"
Que’Er instantly curbed his expression and looked into the distance.
A figure came running wild, yet despite the muddy ground, his pants had no speck of mud. Wearing a poorly fitting coat, carrying a backpack made from a canvas bag filled with something that wobbled as he ran.
When the ceremony began, Liu Chang was doing quite well.
Avoiding crowded places and relying on some jungle survival experience, living cautiously.
After eating some fruits, he miraculously evolved a supernatural power to manipulate temperature, manifesting in quickly freezing water surfaces.
Having a supernatural power was tantamount to having a guarantee.
Whether joining New Eden or escaping Tide Watching Island, he had the initiative.
Moreover, with this ability, life in the jungle could be much better.
The poisonous insects and damp rainwater could pose no threat to him.
Just as he was about to dig out a tree hole, he suddenly heard gunfire, then saw a stout man with a rifle crazily slaughtering survivors in the jungle.
This horrific scene frightened him terribly, extinguishing any thoughts of resistance, he took the remaining fruits and fled east.
Then he desperately discovered more armed soldiers were hunting sacrificial priests in the east.
Liu Chang could only grit his teeth and run back.
On the way, he killed two sacrificial priests who tried to ambush him and obtained their mystical stones.
The mystical stones were distributed by New Eden before the ceremony began, and the usage was simply to consume them.
Additionally, the mystical stones had a tracking function.
Worried about issues with the mystical stones, Liu Chang never ate them. While collecting them, he encountered a terrifying woman.
She moved effortlessly through the jungle, cutting a flower snake to pieces with a mere hand swipe.
Being pursued by this terrifying woman, he felt there was no place to escape. He could only survive because the woman accidentally disturbed a strange tree and got entangled.
Then he received the news of the ceremony ending and quickly headed toward the island’s center.
From afar, he saw New Eden’s people standing upfront.
The upturned-eye glanced aside and asked, "How many?"
"Three, but haven’t eaten."
"Sooner or later. How strong?"
"Acquired a supernatural power and is the first to arrive, likely a standout. This person is mine."
"A good beginning."
...
When Liu Chang stepped forward, Que’Er sized him up and smiled faintly.
"Congratulations on acquiring a supernatural power. As someone favored by the gods, you may ascend the mountain with us to partake in the real ceremony."
"Another ceremony?"
Liu Chang’s face stiffened.
Que’Er instantly understood the situation, smiled, "Don’t worry, your ceremony is over, as a supernatural power holder, there’s no need to participate again."
Only upon hearing he was safe did Liu Chang breathe a sigh of relief.
As the first to arrive at this ceremony, Que’Er personally led him up the mountain.
As they walked, he asked, "How does acquiring a supernatural power feel?"
Liu Chang blandly said, "Not bad."
Que’Er was taken aback. It was his first time encountering such a modest supernatural power holder, sparing the need for a show of force.
"You’re the first."
Liu Chang touched his nose and smiled wryly, thinking if that terrifying woman chased you, you’d run faster than I did.
Upon ascending the mountain, Liu Chang witnessed a bizarre scene.
Over three hundred people tightly surrounded a altar, but standing at the front wasn’t any black-robed priest but a young man in black with long hair.
The latter merely gave him a sidelong glance, sending chills down his spine.
The people outside made way for him, leading directly to the Second Priest’s side.
Liu Chang walked over, stopping three meters away from the Second Priest, various breaths entwined, making him feel as though he walked into a beast cage.
