Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 265: Heaven’s one last stand
Ethan noticed the tension in her face and moved to her side without hesitation.
"Wife, are you alright? You look a little distressed," he asked softly, his voice carrying both worry and urgency.
He quickly slipped an arm around her, drawing her gently against his chest while his other hand rested protectively on her swollen belly.
The closer Elena came to her due date, the more a quiet fear gnawed at him.
The thought that there might be more than one child growing inside her made the risk of labor feel heavier and more dangerous.
And every time they talked about it, Elena would offer a calm smile, reassuring him that her body was strong since she was already an awakened person.
But Ethan couldn’t shake his concern. Elena had to be safe—no matter what.
And more than anything, he prayed that their child—or children—would come into the world strong and healthy.
This was their first child—perhaps their first children—and the uncertainty of the situation, with Elena’s body concealing the baby, made it all the more challenging for them.
So he kept a watchful eye on her, every small movement drawing his attention as if he could protect her simply by never looking away.
Around them, the others quietly observed with a chuckle.
At first, they only saw a devoted husband fussing over his wife, but as their eyes lingered on Elena’s unusually large belly, the truth settled in.
Her pregnancy was not ordinary, and the weight of that realization made them fall silent, a mix of awe and unease rippling through them.
"Nothing, I just... feel like something is coming. My instincts keep flaring," Elena said, brushing off the unease that refused to leave her chest.
"Maybe you’re just restless. You’re already seven months pregnant," Ethan replied gently.
"Everything’s prepared, so try to relax. The baby room is finished—we cleaned it up and even added more space, just in case there’s more than one little one."
Elena finally smiled, leaning against him with a soft sigh.
Even in the middle of the apocalypse, their life together felt peaceful, almost blessed.
It was such a stark contrast to her past life.
Back then, at this very point in time, she and Ethan had been struggling—locked in bitter fights against her Uncle William and Aunt Smith.
But now, instead of endless hardship, they were here, enjoying quiet family moments.
All of it was possible because of her space ability. Her thoughts soon drifted to her cousin.
With Uncle William and Aunt Smith gone, and her fiancé Mark dead as well, she couldn’t help but wonder where Vivian had ended up.
A cold satisfaction flickered in her chest. ’I hope she’s suffering just to stay alive.’
Vivian had always been heaven’s favored child, the kind who seemed untouchable.
But if she had somehow survived, Elena was certain that fate would bring them together again.
And once Heaven’s influence faded with the new cycle, she vowed she wouldn’t hesitate to finish her off.
After a few seconds lost in thought, she brushed it aside and focused on her husband.
"Okay, I won’t think about anything else. I’ll focus on the baby. Sigh, it’s been so active these past few days, kicking my belly with such force."
"The baby’s so naughty. I’ll definitely lecture her once she’s born. She needs to treasure her mother," Ethan replied, kissing her cheek with gentle affection.
The kids, watching them, laughed and exchanged teasing looks.
They clearly enjoyed this rare moment of peace while nibbling on their favorite ice cream.
It was far too hot outside, so Elena decided to let the children enjoy some dessert to help them cool down.
Well, inside their unit, she also lowered the temperature, letting them slowly adjust to the heat little by little.
"Sis Ewe, when will the baby come out? It’s been so long—why does it still like to hide in your belly?" Little Mia asked again, her eyes wide with curiosity.
She had waited so patiently, yet the baby still hadn’t appeared. Now, she was starting to wonder if it would ever come out at all.
Elena nearly burst out laughing. "It’s not time yet. They’ll be born soon, so Little Mia must help take care of the baby."
"I will stay with the baby always and teach my nephew everything I learn. Sis Ewe, I can already count up to a thousand and write my name!"
’Oh, it’s a little early for lessons like that,’ Elena thought, but she didn’t want to dampen Little Mia’s excitement, so she smiled and nodded.
"Wow, you’re doing so well, Little Mia. Alright, I’ll let you be the baby’s teacher."
Little Mia jumped with joy, clapping her hands as she leaned close to Elena’s belly with her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Soon, the other kids joined in, making playful promises to teach and play with the soon-to-arrive youngest member of their group.
As the children busied themselves with their games, Elena turned back to Ethan, her voice dropping slightly.
"Have you heard anything about downstairs? I’ve been hearing strange noises from below these past few days."
"The residents are coming back here," Ethan explained calmly.
"The military’s evacuation centers are overflowing, and they’re telling people to return to their previous places, promising to support them if they do."
Elena nodded in understanding.
Now that the floodwater had receded, many who lived far from Golden Tower were risking their lives to reach either the military or government evacuation centers in search of food and shelter.
The military accepted them and provided the bare minimum for survival, but the centres were far too overcrowded to hold everyone. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
To ease the strain, officials came up with a solution: allow some evacuees to return to their original homes, promising food and water relief as long as they followed orders.
Some people were reluctant to leave.
With the government’s protection, the centre felt safer, even if the conditions were harsh.
But the authorities were firm—there were simply too many people, and the scorching heat made the overcrowding unbearable.
In the end, most agreed to follow the government’s instructions, willing to endure the move as long as it meant continued support while the extreme heat lingered.
It amazed Elena that so many people in City A had managed to survive such a devastating disaster.
Then again, she thought, the human will to live was far stronger than anyone could ever truly measure.
Well, the more people who survive, the greater the chance to defend Earth from invasion.
She also found the military’s strategy reasonable. Letting everyone into one tight space would only lead to chaos.
And now, with the rising temperature spoiling everything faster, hygiene was becoming a serious concern.
The government’s earlier cleanup efforts before the extreme heat had helped, but they weren’t enough.
Bodies buried beneath the ice were now thawing and rotting, filling the air with a foul stench.
Elena shivered at the thought.
Though she had endured far worse in her past life—and was used to such hardships—her pregnancy had sharpened her senses, making the stench alone twist her stomach with disgust.
She sighed softly. "As long as the residents who occupied the units below behave and don’t cause trouble, we can coexist peacefully."
They were still living on the upper floors, in Unit 2601 and above, but their iron-gated door had been damaged, leaving it easy for anyone to enter.
She wasn’t afraid, but dealing with people who carried bad intentions would only be a nuisance.
"Don’t worry," Ethan reassured her.
"We’re keeping an eye on everything. The Paradise Homes kids are safe on the upper floors, so there’s no need to mingle with the new tenants. We just need to stay vigilant."
Elena smiled and nodded at his careful observation.
In the middle of their quiet talk, a sudden, heavy knock echoed through the door.
Bang!Bang!
The pounding was sharp and forceful, startling everyone inside the unit.
Sera stepped toward the peephole, but before she could open the door, Elena’s firm voice echoed in her mind.
"Don’t open it. Hide behind us, now."
Sera froze, quickly retreating as Elena turned to meet Ethan’s eyes. He quickly nodded and went to the door to check the situation.
The presence outside wasn’t from ordinary residents—there was a faint pressure, a trace of spiritual energy.
The only group they knew that carried that kind of aura was the abbots.
But how had they found them? When they’d met at the evacuation center, they had always hidden their faces behind masks.
That left only one possibility—Brother Elias must have revealed something.
Elena exhaled slowly, a cold edge settling over her expression. Her gaze hardened as she fixed it on the door with a faint sneer curving her lips.
But before she could take action, a sudden pain shot through her belly, making her stumble in shock.
